Let's hope then God never looks anywhere close to this abomination, or it's over with this world hehe
"and then having to navigate the absolute fucking travesty that is the native CA launcher"
AMEN to the brother haha. That launcher is missing so many quality of life features its downright criminal
When I get around to upgrading my computer with a 3rd dedicated modding drive, I'll be able to group these, but as of right now, this is an annoyance that you'll have to endure for a bit.
Its especially weird because this specific mod only touches base_colour.dds, a few normal.dds, and a few specular.dds and nothing else. Even if its missing a single texture, it shouldn't be possible to crash the game.... As long as you have Part 4 and 3 (3 has a few base_colour.dds files that hadn't been moved to 4)
The update should be uploaded in the next day or two.
@Ace: Not yet, I told Radious that some of his .dds files are mislabelled and some aren't recompiled back into .dds files correctly; thus, they are missing their respective mipmaps which are required for LOD. I said that as I'm going through to make sure I haven't missed anything else, I'd catalogue any errors that I have found and send it to him, but as of yet --even though it is updated and ready for me to upload-- I need to finish that cataloguing first.
I'm not talented at modding, coding or graphics stuff, but if you want me to create a suggestion for these Steam page descriptions for you, I can certainly help, brother. After all, my professional background in communication/marketing/PR etc. allowed me to pay my bills for 15 years ;)
In my experience, it gets way easier (and basically gets you "kickstarted") with outside input - even if you don't end up using much of it in the end. Just say the word :)
In either case: Do everything at your own pace. That mod you're working on sounds nice, and I don't think I've ever seen that type of mod for a TW game. It'll upscale textures from some of the top mods, like e.g. Xoudad's Sigmar's Heirs, SCM's Marienburg and others in a HD package, just requiring the base mods?
@soulmindproductions: As soon as I find the time, I will come back and change the whole description of my mods so that there is no longer any confusion as to what this mod is or bloating of the comments.
As to the reason why I haven't done this earlier is because I want to make it look nice, clean, and professional, but I don't know how to do that. I will learn, but I do not know when that will be.
I can tell you that I have stated to other commenters that I will try my hand at creating a grouped HD texture pack for the popular reskin mods on the workshop so that I can mitigate these issues and not have to learn how to make a compatibility patch. As to when this will be completed, I have no clue.
@Esoteric_Knowledge_Enjoyer: As I have already stated that I will create an HD texture pack for terrain in a comment on one of my other mods, and me stating that I will attempt to create an HD texture pack for reskin mods, I see no reason to not just create one for SFO. I already have an unuploaded mod that I use that upscales the textures on around 80 different unit mods, to which I am still adding things to it, so I see no reason not to.
These are JUST THE UNITS RADIOUS adds to the game. You still need another race pack for the race you're playing to reskin the VANILLA units. (Or more packs to reskin more races.)
Also, the filesize is wrong. I think it's about 5 or 6 times the SIZE IT DISPLAYS, so it's absolutely HUGE.... Do not even try to download this if you don't have TWENTYFIVE GIGABYTES to spare on your SSD!
Just stating again what I think should be more prominent in the description.
The campaign map is an eldritch abomination.
Do you run Shadows on maximum? I refuse to do so since CA's optimisation with shadows is notoriously bad. The only settings I run lower than Maximum is Shadows, Fog, and VFX. I don't notice any difference in quality, but I do notice a very significant difference in resource consumption and framerate.
It's worth noting that on all maximum settings the insufficient memory warning is triggered and i'm forced to use high textures and medium terrain and shadows, otherwise to activate unlimited video memory which destabilizes the game by maxing out my memory pool.
As it is for Radious, it is obviously NOT in any way compatible with SFO (these units are not there when you play SFO). These 2 overhauls are just as compatible as MacOS and Windows, brother.
Maybe the author doesn't ever play SFO or maybe he has a version for SFO Iined up (if not, somebody from the community could step up).
I believe it is compatible with VFX mods for the battlefield, like Lightning, Weather Overhaul, Permanent VFX, Blood etc. It does NOT heavily affect performance. Do note that unless your VFX, Unir Details and Texture quality settings in WH3's graphics settings are not ALL on ULTRA, pretty much none of these mentioned mods (incl. this one) make any sense whatsoever to run.
These "texture swaps" will have a minimal effect on performance, due to higher RAM usage. If your computer got 30+ percemt empty headroom to work with, it's not going to be noticeable at all. The slightly increased loading time neither from SSD, But people riding their potato PCs pretty much at "if there were 5% more troops on the field graphics and sound would start stuttering, not FPS dropping" level like me, then it can make a difference.
As your mods can be added or removed at any point, I think it's just not very economical to add 90+ gigabytes of textures to a game if I already know I'm only going to see the 6 gigabyte that I actually do add >95% of the time..
Great work, can't wait to try this in a Radious campaign <3
