I just installed and tried this mod with the WH1/WH2 sounds and it was so beautiful I almost shed a tear. I had forgotten how much I hated the WH3 UI, just terrible it kept me from playing WH3 for almost a year.

However my very first battle was an auto resolve as Empire vs Orges and the game freezes and crashes to desktop, similar to what Waveshaper is experiencing. Please consider fixing this and freeing us from the tyranny of the WH3 UI!

After extensive testing I can confirm this mod (as of 6.0) breaks the Ogres. The new UI elements are missing (meat meter) on the left, and pre-battle screen still has the old UI elements (use meat for more Charge bonus). Upon autoresolving a battle (or perhaps even after manual, point is you reach the post-battle menu) the UI does not come back and the game crashes to desktop.

Since many years I hate these lasy modern box for UI in every game (since Banished etc), without any adaptation to the game itself.

@iDon'tSpeakRussian!: I had a brief look at the SCM mod and I honestly have no idea what's going on there. I was unable to find a specific conflict that should be causing this behavior because from what I've seen, it doesn't happen with other mods, such as OvN (from what I've seen in my brief testing, I am not using them).

As for the crash - crashes are an expected behavior when the game is trying to load a UI element that doesn't exist (e.g. incorrect image path). However, if that was this specific case, it wouldn't crash for only one map but for all maps. Again - no idea what's going on there.

Pickmeister I have a question for you about non-english localizations. Can this issue you've mentioned in "known issues" thread manifest in having no names above character models in campaign map? You know the ones that hover above their heads. I've noticed this to be the problem with modded characters interestingly enough only when using this mod (example SCM Marienburg's legendary lord). Also something odd I can replicate almost on every playthrough is whenever I assault helmgart once I restart the battle I get CTD within a minute (doesn't seem to happen on other maps, maybe something wierd about imperial fort?)

just to clarify, when I said arc I have meant the UI showing you what's in range, you know like the area on the ground showing you if something is shootable or you need to turn to shoot or move further to shoot. Not sure what's the right word for it

Hi buddy, I've noticed something easy to replicate. Missile units (in my case I noticed this with handgunners, but this will likely affect all of them) have double "arc" where they can shoot. It shows twice I mean, there's one that's thicker which is on the outside of the arc, then there's thinner one on the inside which is spaced a bit from the thick one. I don't believe this is meant to be this way :D

Managed to find a bit of time and update the mod to 5.1.2.

@pickmeister To be honest, if you compare WH1, WH2 and WH3 to each other it is like different versions within early access, for a full price.

I can understand that you as a modder don't enjoy it. I would not, too. But I think the end of it will be in 2 or maybe 3 years from now. Legend of Total War said that, however his recent leak was kinda false so yeah.

However I would not be surprised if there is a bug in the last version of the game that will not get fixed and will be very annoying. WH2 has that too, characters in mountain regions are having muffled voice lines.

I hope you will have fun with the game in the future. It is my favorite game. And I hope you will enjoy it, too, as a modder and as a player. And thank you for your hard work, this is not a given and I enjoyed your mod a lot. I would give it a 10/10, except a bug here and there, but with this huge UI rework it can't be 100% perfect. So it is still a 10/10.

All in all, I'll get back to it once the game gets a bit more stable but right now, it feels like an early access game.

@xXAlduin99: The mod is still compatible with the last patch pre-5.0.0 in case you'd like to downgrade but I don't expect you'd want that.

The problem is, that the iterative design that CA is currently doing, is great when it's done internally, during the production phase, but it's just annoying when done with a released product - large updates with significant rebalances (and reworks) every couple of weeks. I don't enjoy it as a player and I don't enjoy it as a modder, where I have to constantly deal with frequent typos and mistakes left in the code by CA devs.

Furthermore, because I am not playing the game at the moment, I can't readily fix occasional bugs as I discover them myself, leaving it to the mod users to report them to me, which they often don't, because, naturally, they can't be sure what is a bug and what is a feature, which decreases the quality of the mod.

@pickmeister I can understand that. I'm looking forward to the time when the game no longer receives updates to play with this mod. Until then I hope someone does at least a settlement panorama mod, because this is the thing I am missing the most.

I am putting the update and further development of this mod temporarily on hold. The two main reasons are:
1) I am busy with other stuff and don't have much time for modding lately.
2) I don't play the game at the moment because I am simply not enjoying it. CA keeps introducing power creep after power creep and nerfing it shortly after. If I wanted to play a game with balance out of whack in a different way every couple of weeks, I'd rather play MMORPG. Instead, I am enjoying Medieval 2 much more.

My plan is to return to WH3 once it gets a bit more stable with updates (or stop getting any). At the moment, CA is not only releasing big reworks for legacy factions, but with those reworks, they're also releasing a ton of bugs that get fixed in the next batch of patches and I am tired of going back and redoing my work every couple of weeks after every hotfix because they're incompetent and their quality assurance sucks balls.

The "(UPDATE IN PROGRESS)" part of the mod's name might indicate as much but I wouldn't know for sure, I just work here..

Doesn't seem like this mod works with the new update. Is there by any chance going to be fix? I just got Warhammer 3, and man, I miss the old UI and sounds. Thanks.

@Cobalt Coconut: Didn't plan on making it compatible with those, so .. oh well ..

@Lady Neravin: I don't plan on putting that feature back, sorry.

@Mr. Potter: Glad you like it and yeah, completely agree with you there. I didn't mind at first but after a while, it got very tiring.

I wish i could still have the different colors for player/neutral/friend/enemie settlements, the only thing i can see actually better in TWW 3 compared to TWW2 UI wise

@pickmeister the recruit defeated legendary lords screen doesn’t show any text for the options. I also noticed I can’t rotate any of the lords and heroes with the rotate mod enabled

@pickmeister I'm not seeing it in skirmish verse ai so it might be a Skarsnik campaign issue. I've seen some other weird bugs before with goblins and grom before I used this mod so I don't know if it's related

For me, the "Burn Deceiver Cult" cost is white on parchment. Gotta squint to know how much it's going to cost to burn the heretics. Not pressing, since you gotta burn them _no matter the cost!_ but still!

I think I found another bug. Again, might not be this mod. I'm seeing a white square to the left of the Nasty Skulker unit type icon (the crossed daggers) when clicking them during a battle

It's great to see this, not only because the low contrast of the parchment is easier on the eyes but IMO it fits the medieval-fantasy setting.

Are you using the version I made? "updated" smaller battle banners as the original mod datacored game files. Now the mod I did does not have working slider as I believe we overlap somewhere just let me know as I am certain there are some unnecessary things in that mod. I was focusing on bugged diplomacy camera when fixing it, not really thinking about compatibility back then. (also I havent looked in kv of your mod yet)

@iDon'tSpeakRussian!: I don't have anything in the works at the moment. Strange that smaller battle banners aren't compatible in this mod. I thought there's a DB flag for that in _kv_rules table.

Also I am curious do you also cook something for battle UI? Maybe alter the flags, layout of floating UI elements for HP/ammo/morale and stuff? :) god knows thats something desperately needed :D....orrr maybe extend options for UI Scale slider for battle banners? I have a mod that allows that but is incompatible with your mod sadly (Smaller Battle Banners)

Anything for UI being less cluttered but still informative enough would be very welcome :)

@xXAlduin99: You're welcome. I thank you for calling it out. Never noticed the difference myself.
As for the reasoning, apparently, WH3 is a fork of an earlier version of WH2. If that is true (and it does seem like it is), then the reason is simply incompetence.
Carrying over changes made in later WH2 patches should be a no-brainer and shouldn't even take that much time to do but it never seemed to be one of their priorities. A task like that shouldn't be too demanding, assuming a proper version control system is in place. CA workflow must be a total mess.

The Total War series has always been filled with implementing new great features and then never using them again so I guess it shouldn't be that surprising..

Considering they're unable to even acknowledge bugs (for months) I'm reporting to them on their own forum, I find it gradually more difficult to find excuses for them.

Actually, in the latest WH2 patch the skill tree sounds are working like this:

Picking a new skill: The more advanced sound that is also used in this mod

Expanding an already picked skill to Tier 2/3: A more simple click-like sound

But I can imagine in WH3 there is only one sound usable, hardcoded

But it's not a big problem. It worked with only one sound for years in WH2.

@Squeakers: Thanks for calling it out. I'll fix it as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of traveling right now with no access to my computer so it will take at least one more week before I get to it.
As for the color, I changed it slightly since the time I did the screenshots but it more or less matches the color (excluding health bars) from previous games. The values are 255,185,0 (RGB).

@ToastyBread419gaming: I don't think that's even possible and I am honestly not sure what you mean as there are no white panels in my mod as far as I am concerned. The closest thing to white is WH2 parchment texture which I wouldn't really call white.
