to have an icon in main menu the file in "thumb" folder should be called same as the bsp file (gm_okinawa.png), not the icon.png

It's a model, so putting $mostlyopaque at the top of .qc will fix that. Alternatively, you could try these .vmt parameters for smooth translucency with proper sorting:
"$alphatest" 1
"$allowalphatocoverage" 1

@Geisteskrankenchan making them translucent will result in an effect in which the landscape behind a landscape may seem as if it was in front of that landscape. Sorry!
