I've been using this in 1.6 already but would love to see an update
lloki 11 Jul @ 3:17pm
Throws one error on start, but later it looks like working without an issue.
lydocia 11 Jul @ 8:16am
Would like to see this one make it to 1.6 as well please!
A Good Noodle 12 Jun @ 9:14pm
Will this be updated to 1.6?

"Q: I'm a maximalist. Compatibility be damned."
I feel so seen and catered to.

Hey thank you for this! It looks great but unfortunately when playing with NL facial animations (with UNAGI textures) the skin colours the facial components, making the teeth and stuff the same colour as the skin. Not sure it there is a fix (didnt look into it) but you might want to add it to the incompatiblity section (:
GAMING *mike screech* 4 Feb @ 8:02pm
ok but why did this show up when i searched "monkey"
Nemerijn 25 Jan @ 10:35pm
I found this bug/conflict with Character Editor. If I enable the red shader (which you have an option to enable for light skintone), this shader goes away if you edit the skin colour of the character in Character Editor mod. Your pawn will end up very pale looking if you edited them.

It always annoyed me that there's not really any actually dark skin tones. Theres warmer skin tones and sort of darker tones but no actual dark skin. This is such a nice additions, instant essential mod.
gorpacus 27 Sep, 2024 @ 11:23pm
Compatible w/ 1.4? Also the decision to wipe warm skin tones off the face of the planet rim is strange IMO.
H2Forge  [author] 10 Jul, 2024 @ 11:32am
@SqueakyBatBoi Soon, very soon. I want to tweak some values first, since the red shaders look strange on some of the misc melanin skin tones, which become especially pronounced with Facial Animation mod.

@Kafelka So fun fact, the code for that is in the vanilla game. I know there are mods that renable it. Maybe Tweak's Galore has a setting for it? I
SqueakyBatBoi 10 Jul, 2024 @ 6:33am
will the + misc melanin version be getting the same patch?
Kafelka 9 Jul, 2024 @ 10:46pm
Thanks for creating this mod, I really enjoy overhauled skintones but is there any way to add new skin colours to biotech xenotype editor? For some reason base game lacks posibility of using them in xenotypes.
H2Forge  [author] 7 Jul, 2024 @ 11:11am
@araccooneatingabigbeanburrito Can't thank you enough for taking the time to patch that in. You are awesome.
araccooneatingabigbeanburrito 5 Jul, 2024 @ 7:40pm
Hey I just created a PR for a Facial Animation patch, let me know if it looks good and if you want to integrate it the published mod https://github.com/H2Forge/InclusiveSkinTones/pull/1

It's already compiled so you can just git clone the branch into the /RimWorld/Mods folder
Geobeetle 30 Jun, 2024 @ 9:59am
I picked up this mod for this issue but even when using this mod the skin color of all my pawns are weirdly off-hue, it isn't my monitor I checked on a different one.
H2Forge  [author] 4 Jun, 2024 @ 6:43am
@MxCheeseSauce. Thanks! As for hair, adding them is just as easy, but making them show up on dark skin is harder since it's hardcoded. Ideally there should be a tag like "showOnDarkSkin" in the xml for hair, but for now, it's defined in C#, with DarkBlack, MidBlack, DarkReddish, and DarkSaturatedReddish.
MxCheeseSauce 3 Jun, 2024 @ 3:35pm
Love this mod and that it's customizable via xml!! would it be possible to make a similar one that allows user control of the hair colors used in pawn generation? I'd love the option to add some more variety with my own swatches

(Hi, was in the veld.)
I see comments are asking about Nals' Facial Animation mod.
Never used it, but what kanboru suggests aught to work, and easy to make a patch for.
Incase anyone wants to log an issue, or add their own compatibility patches, I've linked the source.
kanboru 29 May, 2024 @ 4:27pm
Scratch my previous comment, just go into [NL] Facial Animation - WIP mod folder and find HeadType.xml in 1.5\Defs\FaceTypeDefs\Human. Change all heads <shader>Map/CutoutSkin</shader> into <shader>Map/Cutout</shader>. It's not perfect as it makes the lightest skin colors look very white but far better than the reddish on the darkest
kanboru 27 May, 2024 @ 7:17pm
The only way i have found to remove the reddish from facial animations is to edit the heads yourself and remove the shading. No reddish this way
ComradeCorvus 27 May, 2024 @ 7:31am
@𝑅𝒶𝒾𝓃 I'm wondering the same thing.
𝑅𝒶𝒾𝓃 23 May, 2024 @ 8:43am
Any way to have this work with custom heads? NL facial animation heads don't have the red tint removed
Rohzdear 22 May, 2024 @ 8:58pm
What sort of compatibility issues would adding more skin tones (such as with Misc. Melanin) could you have?
I assume stuff that adds new Humanoid races not covered by the mod? Does it conflict with Races based on Biotech's system?

Either way, thank you for making this, and reviving the Misc. Melanin mod.
violue 22 May, 2024 @ 1:06pm
:O MELANIN!!!
Gutterpunk 22 May, 2024 @ 12:34pm
Ps this pairs well with Roo's Dreadlock hairstyles for more suitable hair options too
Gutterpunk 22 May, 2024 @ 12:31pm
Damn, this looks fantastic! Good work
H2Forge  [author] 22 May, 2024 @ 12:26pm
If anyone had issues with HAR , I've added a compatibility patch.
Poised 21 May, 2024 @ 10:15pm
Yknow what would be cool. is if there was a mod that made skin tons based on the hemisphere. closer to the equator the darker the skin.
Omnires 21 May, 2024 @ 8:30pm
I've been looking for a mod like this. I mean what it the point of memes like "diversity of thought" of almost every human the who shows up on the map has a skin tone an egg shell? The spawn rate for humans should be more even.
kanboru 21 May, 2024 @ 11:26am
Sadly the heads from Vanilla Textures Expanded - [NL] Facial Animation make the darker skin tones look really bad :(
SalmonToastie 21 May, 2024 @ 2:25am
i always thought it was a HAR thing not base game.
Stachman 20 May, 2024 @ 8:33pm
could never find a mod that removed that weird red color on skin
Paladin Val 20 May, 2024 @ 1:29pm
You guys look at skin color when most people have fur, armor on and/or even care with all the glorious war crimes happening around?
H2Forge  [author] 20 May, 2024 @ 3:27am
@michallenik8 distribution is uniform (but you can change it to whatever in the mod folder). Should be a clustering bias. Spawn a couple dozen pawns using the dev console for me.
michallenik8 19 May, 2024 @ 11:08pm
This mod makes most of the pawns spawn black or brown. Like 80% of them.
гагатун 19 May, 2024 @ 11:16am
best mod
pointemorte. 19 May, 2024 @ 10:09am
good job
turkler 19 May, 2024 @ 9:25am
great mod
tanyfilina 18 May, 2024 @ 1:14pm
I've used Misc Melanin when the game was 1.3. Thank you for reviving it!
MxCheeseSauce 18 May, 2024 @ 9:48am
bless!! I've been waiting for someone to drop a 1.5 mod that improves skin tone variance. tysm!
H2Forge  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 9:40am
@mikester112 Most mod won't conflict with simply adding more skin tones. It's written in xml. So go nuts! Hence the alternative, Inclusive Skin Tones + Misc Melanin . Keeping to the same amount simply insures that the mod is unbreakable.

Also, when you start adding mods like Melanin can be extracted or Melanin Matters things don't get cluttered.
mikester112 18 May, 2024 @ 8:32am
Ah, I was actually just looking for something like this while I was customizing a pawn. Out of curiosity what compatibility problems does just adding more skin colors to the game introduce?
H2Forge  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 7:34am
@Lillian1917 Light skin tones with minMelanin values below 0.5 still have the red shader. You can change them freely in the Defs folder. I've added a toggle to remove the shader completely from all skin tones.
The Blind One 18 May, 2024 @ 2:43am
Wow I never realized there just weren't any real black people in this game lmao ... It also highlights how extremely overrepresented lighter skinned people are in this game. This does seem more realistic. Very interesting mod for sure.
Lillian1917 17 May, 2024 @ 8:58pm
is there a way to fix the red hue fix not working on certain modded face mods?
Holgast 17 May, 2024 @ 6:46pm
Cool idea (and hooray, my skin tone is represented!). I don't think I've ever used either this or the other mod, so I'll have to test them to see which one I prefer
Scout Gaming 17 May, 2024 @ 3:42pm
Yeah tbh vanilla skin colors look bad
H2Forge  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:41pm
@Elementyo I'll upload the source code later. Similiar to NoReddishBodies , the shader is set to Cutout for certain skin types, like for cosmetic skin types from Biotech. The criteria is the minMelanin in xml. So it's extendable to however many or few skin tones you want.
H2Forge  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:33pm
@pikakirby11 The alternative, Inclusive Skin Tones + Misc Melanin, contains a orangish skin tone.Albeit muted. You can of course also just add it back in the Defs folder, rgb value (228, 158, 90).
