Yeah, you should definitely still be able to use Up and Down special after throwing the axe.

well i guess it makes sense, hes more extremely punishable and you cant use any of your attacks after throwing the axe (not even your scarf which i dont understand)

Hell yeah glad a notification was waiting for me to remind me to try fennek again. it's a very flowy comfy moveset again, definitely a different moveset and a different flow, but i think i like this about as much as the old. stuff feels more deserved than the original, and most of the stuff I thought was iconic is back/never left/meaningful again. also is that a new winscreen with risk of rain UES? it's cool

Is there a way I could play the 1.28 version of this character? No shade to the efforts to balance this character but i severely miss the old Nspecial and Dstrong as I used to play them all the time. Easily in my top 5 mods with the old stuff does anyone have the files?

I was just playing some N/A recently and started thinking about some of the characters Ive played before that their movesets and movement just felt right and intuitive and flow-y like that and as i was setting up to play a bunch of them like epinel, frostine, rhyolis, rykenburn, hornet, twenny, dwaalux, urotsuki, arboris, mii brawler, aur, snick, etc. just a bunch of them in a row against some of the stronger characters with AIs I've found on the workshop. And I think its genuinely kinda funny fennek was the first one i pulled up for that and I felt like I was being gaslit by probably one of the characters I would least expect to be rusty at.

that all makes sense, and I do hope he can get some kill power returned to his other options in a less mashable way, truly. It is also interesting to hear that I did indeed miss something with the neutral special having recalling it being its whole bit now and I think it could be interesting to try to practice that (though I will forever miss my stupid running around to try and get the opponent standing behind the lantern at just the right distance to get like fully fully caught in the multihit and get a strong attack)

Nspecial can be recalled by pressing the button again, that enables a hitbox that should pull the oponent towards you which if you do it right, you can either follow up with another attack or finish off with a strong attack on a really cool way
One of my concerns with the character, was how a lot of victories felt undeserved because of the problematic options, its not the vision I had, I like characters that a bit more technical to play, but that can pull off really cool stuff without mindlessly mashing, I know the current state of Fennek is not perfect, but the changes were made with good intentions for both the player and the oponent, Im glad you like my character, but please I hope you can understand my reasons... :GDHard:

so... to give you some context, I wanted Fennek to be invluded in the workshop comunity tournaments going on, but the issue was that Fennek was apparently way too strong, a lot of complaints (for the most part) were about Nspecial and Dstrong (very annoying to deal with and no weaknesses) that's why the massive downgrade on the move by being so restricted right now

and like damn can't even use the attacks that don't use the axe while the axe is out. I may not actually be very good at the game lol so I guess I can't speak much on the breadth of combos you can get out of his fair (the fair thats basically just a jab combo in the air and I love it) all he can really do anymore is just fish for up special upair. I love upspecial into aerial combos on every grappling hook style recovery character but even the most fun most fair most fun for both players kill route would still get old if there was really no other option for a big window of percents

Coming back to this mod after a while, I mean hes probably being demoted from favourites and etc but whatever thats personal opinions. But genuine question I'm trying to figure out after coming back to him now. What *does* Nspecial do? now it just seems to be a do nothing bad option all around unless I'm missing something

I didnt wanted to make a lot of these changes at first, but they were necesary since I never intended Fennek to be a cheap character and wanted him to be allowed at the community tournaments, I always try to compensate the downgrades with more polished animations TwT

Well... At some point in development that was possible since the lantern could explode with any attack (including enemy attacks which made it pretty much unusable in real matches), but at some point the code was reworked entirely and limited to just the special attacks

One thing I could see being really cool is what if when you use a smash attack next to a lantern it lights their axe on fire like when you throw the axe at the lantern. Maybe it could do bonus damage or knockback? Either way this character is awesome!

its not foreshadowing, I just used it because I wanted to make a story of the characters going from SSL version to their full fleshed out versions and that stage is the only one in the workshop that transforms like that
