@Ganzik Summer is almost here. In fact I will be done with school in less than a week. I have two maps that I want to upload first. Most of the work has already been done as a matter of fact. After those two maps go up, gm_hinamizawa_v2 will become my primary focus. I will update this first version too just to keep my promise of adding certain areas. If things go smoothly, v2 will be up on this map's 1 year anniversary. If not, then some time in August.

I just realized that when this map is finished it would make a very good Survival map pack for Left 4 Dead 2 since the workshop in that game has more Higurashi mods and models and sounds than the Gmod workshop

I'm looking forward to gm_hinamizawa v2 :steamthumbsup::steamhappy:

Why do I hear a 2nd set of footsteps following me on this map?

If anyone can recommend any good Rena PMs to go with this I'd love that, I have a few installed but none of them really look right.

Can I add you as a friend so I can make it easier?
Mark  [author] 13 Aug, 2024 @ 9:54am
@Retroburger1984 I appreciate your suggestion. I will note it down on my ideas list however I have a lot of other mapping projects that I would like to complete first. Feel free to send me pictures of the city though. If I ever go start working on a map like this I will certainly research the street map thoroughly.
Retroburger1984 13 Aug, 2024 @ 9:45am
Do you think you could do a map of Hiroshima before the nuking? I was thinking of the section of the city that has the iconic building that used to be called the Genbaku Dome. If you want me to find pictures of what it used to look like I can.
Mark  [author] 13 Aug, 2024 @ 7:41am
@Retroburger1984 Oh lol sorry I must have misunderstood you. Well the fact that Japan made cities out of wood so I see how Hiroshima and this village could have similarities. Though from what I know the thatched houses are buildings exclusive to this village and probably other old japanese villages too.
Retroburger1984 13 Aug, 2024 @ 7:12am
I meant before it was flattened LOL.
Mark  [author] 13 Aug, 2024 @ 5:46am
@Retroburger1984 I don't see any similarities between post-nuke Hiroshima and this map lol
Retroburger1984 13 Aug, 2024 @ 5:44am
I see, this map reminds of Hiroshima being it was flattened, what do you think?
Mark  [author] 13 Aug, 2024 @ 5:35am
@Retroburger1984 Rice and whatever else seems to be growing there from google street view. That will be added to gm_hinamizawa_v2 which will be a new separate map. I don't intend on making such big additions to this map.
From what it looks like the town has many beautiful gardens too and I would like to add them. I will probably have to make them models for the plants myself.
Retroburger1984 13 Aug, 2024 @ 5:22am
I see, what kind of crops will you add?
Mark  [author] 13 Aug, 2024 @ 3:57am
@Retroburger1984 Those are crop patches. I cannot add houses there as it would not be accurate.
Retroburger1984 12 Aug, 2024 @ 4:32pm
Can you add house to the areas with the dark patches on the grass, and have them as enter-able Japanese houses?
Mark  [author] 11 Aug, 2024 @ 12:49pm
The map has been updated!
I appreciate all the positive feedback and criticism of the map.
Most displacement errors within the player bounds have been fixed, the Sonozaki estate has been added and there is more detail to the town. See the change log for more info.
I plan on making yet another update for the map and after that leave it as it is. In the future, I would like to make gm_hinamizawa_v2 with a lot more content, revamped map and significantly more detail. I won't make any promises since I have a lot of other mapping projects which take priority and most importantly real life.
If you are reading this, thank you and take care!

This is seriously impressive, excellent job so far! Looking forward to seeing more details added
Mark  [author] 4 Aug, 2024 @ 2:26am
@Ivy Lyons Thank you. Indeed the player clip (invisible wall) is a bit strict in this map just because the skybox is visible in certain places where the displacements have gaps and such. It also had to do with the fact that I really want to keep the map within the compiler's limits which results in very little detail and an incomplete village in the direction of the Rena, Satoko, Rika houses.
I am working on an update at this very moment. Many of the bad displacements have been fixed, the player clip has been made less strict in certain places and nodes have been added. I am currently working on adding the dam construction site and the Sonozaki estate + a more detailed town center. I hope to make certain town center buildings explorable too.

I think the road up the mountain right there is neat and maybe could walk up it a little and find something but I can feel the pain of doing that. Canal looks so cool for fishing feels like some places I have lived.

More impactful for map navigation - the teleport to maebara is epic and catches vehicles/noclippers but its right next to a turn on the road and can be easy to get stuck on, and its existence is not obvious, i found it by accident

<3 <3 <3 Map so cool!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 sorry for two message, i liked map and had many ideas. do not take as pressure please
Ivy Lyons 3 Aug, 2024 @ 6:10pm
Idea for bounding boxes and others have mentioned similar but unless they are specifically meant to keep people away from low level of detail areas, I think making things like the fields around the clearing for ryuugu and other houses more accessible would make map navigation more intuitive. i saw how there's a rise behind ryuugu house where if you climb it, you see under the horizon treeline texture, but maybe one could be applied directly on top of this rise? I think the clearings dont really ruin any suspension of continuity when i have noclipped there to see what it's like, and i think the narrower side of the road to the ryuugu house (the one where the cliffs go upwards instead of a field) would be really cool as just an explorable place where you could sit under the trees next to this dirt cliff, good vibe.

@Ado Edem I haven't tried Umineko so I don't know, but any kind of map idea has the potential to become an actual map at some point.

why would anyone move away from that cozy town
Mark  [author] 1 Aug, 2024 @ 9:14am
@bearishplane17 Thank you very much! I'll try to fix all of these in the next update. The displacements have really been a problem for me in this map.
And yeah that random hole is a product of my forgetfulness.
Thank you once again.
bearishplane17 1 Aug, 2024 @ 8:40am
@Mark, some of them like the roads could be all in my head, but here is some screenshots of some noticeable issues

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300977978 = floating house on the upper hill of the town

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300977951 = displacement & floating trees on the turn leading towards Rena's house

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300977899 = a displacement near the bridge

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300977839 = a forgotten hole sitting near the middle of the town
Mark  [author] 1 Aug, 2024 @ 2:32am
@bearishplane17
Please tell me where the gaps in displacements are. I don't usually see that in the map editor. Not much I can do about the vertex manipulation used to make the roads if that's what you're talking about.
And yes most houses were copy pasted. My intention on improving the detail specially touches that. I didn't want to push the limits of the compiler too much with the first version of the map.

@Halsi
Not much I can do to optimize an outdoor map. The map ran smoothly for me, so if you're experiencing frame drops, I'm sorry. I wish there was more I could do.
Cyan 31 Jul, 2024 @ 9:00pm
Man this place has some awful frame drops.
bearishplane17 31 Jul, 2024 @ 3:22pm
Its a really good map & big to play on, but i do think it does require more updates to fully shine. But maybe these can be resolved in the v2

-a house floating in the upper hill part of the town
-random gaps in displacements,
-most houses are bland looking,
-the roads/paths are off looking,
-lack of detail, (already addressed)
-No sun in the sky despite being daytime, (optional)
-a lot of things seem to be very square-shaped, (but i could be wrong)
-the player clip walls between the road that leads towards Rena's residence seems to be very strict & tight

these issues are completely up to you on how you wanna approach them, but these are just some stuff i found out by playing.
NavySpheal 31 Jul, 2024 @ 4:52am
This is amazing!I got chills as I recognized locations from the game. Also I agree with TheRealSenpa1, you should add soft cicada noises that occasionally play. Not all the time, just every now & then.
