Just aheads up, made public a version of this mod that was updated by the Witch to DX11, so I can use it on a dedicated server

If it helps: go into the mods TransparentMaterials.sbc file.

"</UVSize>
<Color>
<X>0.2</X>
<Y>0.2</Y>
<Z>0.2</Z>
<W>1</W>"

That last line <W>1<W> is what deals with transparency of the projected circle or tape measure. For either one, change that value to whatever you wish between 0 and 1. 0 is completely transparent, and 1 is totally opaque. As you can see, I cranked up the circle guide to 1. I can now see it clearly again and use it as intended. The texture of the disk you place is pink because of a missing texture still, but at least the green/blue/red circle grid works. Dunno how to fix missing textures, so here ends my contribution :).

New update sucks and caused pretty much every other transparent block to become glass reflection textured. Doesn't work with 1.181.0. Not saying anything wrong with this mod (I frikkin love it) but just lettin ya know

I'm trying to figure out how to make a projection of just... an infinite number of blocks as a guide from orbit to planet. Any suggestions?

@Handskar If I had an easy way to do it, yes, but the 100 block circle chart was a lot of work, maybe if I come up with an easier way to to do it.

Any chance of making the ruler's bar darker so it can be read easier? I think something changed recently because it got lot harder to read the numbers.

I love this mod. and after plenty of use I thought i might offer some suggestions cause i would like to see some variations to this,
Recommending adding various rulers of:

Small ship versons of all Rulers.
Paintable Versons of all Rulers to alter their color.

Rulers of 10/20/30/40/50 block lenghts (lenghts most standard ships will likly fall close to comepaired to the red ship and blue ship)

Rulers with instead of green squars, green dots, that could be used like lane markers every other block.(the dots being 1/4 the size of the square, maybe 1/8)

a Quarter, and Semi Circular versons of 100 radius circle guild, Also 50 block versons of each.

Oh thank you thank you thank you! Though it may not be the prefect guide for tunnelling out asterioids it makes life WAY easier to keep walls and tunnels straight. Tremendously useful mod in many ways in both creative and survival! Rated up. :tgrin:

Mechanized T : Thank you so very much for your mods! This is my single most important tool in my toolbar... its #1 in all my toolbar boxes.

Question: When I wish to make a 12 block section, I simply hold the mouse button and drag my mouse till I see 12... then I release the button and Voila... I have 12 blocks all lined up... How impossible would it be to allow the length of the ruler to be determined in a similar manner.

Andrew. You want a 400 block ruler or circle guide? It definitely is possible, but is tedious as I made both textures manually, and so it would just be a matter of making a larger texture, which would take some time, especially for the circle chart. A few other options would bee just a single 200 block radius circle I could make custom for you, but that wouldn't be too useful for the whole sphere, also I could just make a giant 200 block radius holographic sphere that you could try to use as a guide but that wouldn't be exact and would probably cause convulsions for people with OCD. I will think about it and consider the possibilities and see what I can come up with. Oh, one other option which would be more doable us just a quarter section of a 200 block radius circle chart so the texture would be the same size it is now, if you know what I mean

Could it be possible to make the ruler longer? I'd like to build a km long sphere (which is 400 large ship blocks) which would need to be double the radius.

could you make the ruler and such adjustable as well? so that I could have a 50 block ruler instead of 1 hundred? And how about having a block to metre conversion thing, for easier use of finding the distance of one place to another in metres?

Very nice.

Just a thought, but would it be viable to create a 'blueprint projector' you'd load a blueprint into it and then place the blocks where it tells you, that way you can rapidly produce a ton of complex ships in survival mode.

if it's not within the realms of the modding api, i'll just stick it on my wish list for the final game

There is a way to render things so that they are always drawn even when behind other objects, I was thinking about a 3D grid that would outline 10x10 boxes and cover an area of 200 blocks squared. So, it would be a basic 3D coordinate system.

This is great to use as a sightings system for weapons
I also mount in all directions on drill rigs so I can lell how far to go till it finishes the roid its drilling

GrimFateKiller. How does a teleporter moving objects in space relate to making a configurable ruler? I didn't say all things were impossible, I said making the ruler configurable, retractable, etc isn't. I have asked a few people who know the modding API way better than me, and I was told no. I may be able to use the definition for doors or Pistons to rig it to be extendable/retractable. I really didn't initially see a need for it to have those functions, because I had intended to just use the ruler for a building aid and that it wasn't necessary to make it any more complicated than a static model. But, I do like the idea and will continue looking into how to make it work, if someone who is knowledgeable about modding knows a way, I am all ears.

Boris. Modding in this game is currently limited to making blocks that do the same thing and use the same control screens as existing blocks, for example making new thrusters, gyros, weapons, rotors, pistons, landing gears, reactors, etc. It isn't possible at this time to make a new type of block that has its own settings unique to its functions.
