Oh this is where Keen got the idea :espresso:
Sorenguard98 15. juni 2022 kl. 11:11
are these gyros airtight? i often put gryos along main corridors on my large grid ships, and i always have to use armor to make it airtight
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 28. apr. 2022 kl. 15:48
It was a reasonable weight increase over the stock gyro when I first made this mod. They may have since tweaked the stock gyro weight down since.

The 1x1x1 small grid gyro is insanely heavy at almost 1500kg

An alternative solution is the Gyroscope package 250%/500% etc mod, which also attaches on all sides, but does not have a cubic framed model
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 7. nov. 2020 kl. 6:19
Yeah, sure.
Cmdr. DoomForge™ 7. nov. 2020 kl. 2:08
Just wanted to ask and confirm, is the permission to do that still in effect?
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 6. mar. 2020 kl. 17:08
Honestly, if anyone wants to modify this, go ahead, do whatever you like.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 6. mar. 2020 kl. 17:06
Permission granted, do what you like :)
FireDragon 5. mar. 2020 kl. 1:51
@Kookas Could I please have your permission to publish a modified version (power, costs, etc) for our server? Of course, giving credit & link
clevercole98 6. feb. 2020 kl. 18:53
Your item is still useful.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 31. dec. 2019 kl. 21:27
Yeah, the front page has become dominated by comments that have about as little to do with the mod as possible. I'm just leaving them for what little entertainment value they provide, and because it's just so bizarre that this thread took that turn.
Domina 31. dec. 2019 kl. 15:45
welcome to steam 2k19
Ace 22. dec. 2019 kl. 20:11
I'm just here looking for mods why the fuck are you all talking about vaccines
Thieme 5. maj 2019 kl. 22:53
Nice to see this get an update, Thank you!
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 5. maj 2019 kl. 18:49
May 2019 update:
- Fixed icon having giant white borders
- Added to assembler blueprints
- Added to research tree
- Matched power consumption to stock gyro

Let me know if I've missed anything.
Copper Boltwire 12. mar. 2019 kl. 13:32
don't remember if they are also in the assembler menu, if not, would you be kind and add them?
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 12. mar. 2019 kl. 13:08
Thanks for letting me know, haven't played in a while
Copper Boltwire 10. mar. 2019 kl. 11:44
An update to this would be great to match the new gyro settings as well as progression lock for Survival...
Xeperos 16. juli 2018 kl. 13:23
oh okay i thought it was made by you too
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 16. juli 2018 kl. 12:56
I haven't removed anything - the extra powerful version was a third-party tweak to this. There might be another version somewhere on the workshop.
Xeperos 16. juli 2018 kl. 12:46
why have you removed the extra powerful version? I really need it
Gonz.0 14. jan. 2018 kl. 18:49
I would still love to see Keen rebuild their own Gryro to be encased or at least framed so they are stackable etc.
PeterRabbit 22. juli 2017 kl. 17:32
I personally would live to see a larger gyro that was more mass efficient. It would also help with reducing polygons and draw calls!
Blue Moon 25. juni 2017 kl. 10:44
When will the 3X3 gyro be done? I'd love to be able to use it.
Blue Moon 20. maj 2017 kl. 15:35
that could work nicely!
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 20. maj 2017 kl. 4:15
IIRC Keen's stock values were calculated mathematically to be physically accurate for the gyroscope's radius and weight. That said, I agree with you that a more powerful gyroscope would be nice. I built a huge ship which needs a whole wall made out of nothing but encased gyroscopes to be able to turn.

One thing is that realistically-speaking, you would get more from one big gyroscope than lots of smaller ones. I do have an incomplete 3x3 encased gyroscope model which I never got around to completing. It might look better as well, you could have some gyroscope rooms with a giant round centrepiece or something.
Blue Moon 19. maj 2017 kl. 10:25
yeah, but its nit that heavy... i mean its heavy... but then literally filled so every other layer is solid gyros....god damn keen needs tiered gyros... i don't like that the other encased gyro mod is 300X stronger... i don't NEED 300X just 3-5X
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 19. maj 2017 kl. 7:48
They work as well as stock gyroscopes, if they don't, that's something on your end, not a problem with the mod. Note that you need a lot of stock gyros if you want to move something heavy as well.
Blue Moon 18. maj 2017 kl. 19:12
this makes no sense then, why the heck do they woork so poorly on large ships? i mean, it was literally just a light armor shell filled with gyros and couldnt turn...
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 18. maj 2017 kl. 16:28
Yes, it's a bit heavier, but that shouldn't have much of a bearing on its gyroscopic performance.
As a test, I set up two very simple ships in creative, which differed only in which gyroscope they had. I didn't notice any difference in turning rate between the ship with the stock gyroscope and the one with mine.
Blue Moon 18. maj 2017 kl. 15:35
is the weight of the block different?
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 18. maj 2017 kl. 13:43
Nope, definitely the same force magnitude as the stock gyroscopes, 3.36E+07 for the large one and 448000 for the small one.
Blue Moon 15. maj 2017 kl. 13:50
Yeah, these are nowhere near as strong as they should be, and suprisingly enough... too heavy... You'd think they'd be ideal for massive paris-sized ships, but they cause so much lag in bulk, make even the largest thrusters useless, and generally just don't provide enough turning power... i literally filled the entirety of a hollow paris with these, and it still couldn't turn at all, and it was one thick light armor.... is the mod broken?
Blue Moon 12. mar. 2017 kl. 15:35
weird question, but are you sure it's exactly as strong as the vanilla ones still? I love these to death, but I've been noticing they feel weaker than the normal gyros... which is weird...
willfarnham22 15. aug. 2016 kl. 2:10
can you make a varient of this which is compatible with the keen gyro boost module.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 13. maj 2016 kl. 3:51
Yeah, go ahead.
Neimoh 12. maj 2016 kl. 19:55
Kookas, Would I have your permission to add this to a tiered pack I'm making for my server to reduce block counts? ?My members prefer the encased design over the vanilla. I already have a few tiered vanilla blocks and a tiered version of the double sided productivity upgrade module I got permission for. Model credit would of course be linked back to you.
MagnusEffect 23. apr. 2016 kl. 19:37
oldie but a goodie. still use this on my combat ships :)
Stigm4t4 9. mar. 2016 kl. 18:19
My opinion, would be a single mark on small and large - on the top, pointed toward the 'front', an arrow, or if you want to be fancy, an 'orientation' label on the arrow. This is my thought. Good work.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 9. mar. 2016 kl. 18:09
What's the best way to do that, without having arrows all over the gyro?
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 9. mar. 2016 kl. 18:05
Okay, so here's how it's oriented. The control panel side is considered to be upright, i.e. the control pad appears on the right.

The yaw axis is the one formed by a line through the open centre of the gyroscope (i.e. front to back). A positive yaw makes the control panel side turn clockwise.

The pitch axis is the one you'd expect, it goes horizontally with respect to the control panel. A positive pitch makes the control panel side rotate to face upwards.

The roll axis is a line down from the top to the bottom of the gyroscope. A positive roll makes the control panel side move to the left.

I'll update the texture to reflect this soon.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 9. mar. 2016 kl. 17:53
As was suggested by someone before, it could be done with a simple texture change, but I haven't actually yet ascertained which side is the actual front and in what orientation.
Stigm4t4 9. mar. 2016 kl. 16:46
@Shigz - Exactly. Stable much more, no more single block destuction, causing a gyro to spin out of control and destroy the rest of the craft. A detail on the top to enable proper orientation in small and large would be helpful in scripting.
VORG 3. mar. 2016 kl. 23:14
The best thing about these gyroscopes is that all surfaces latch onto nearby armour blocks. Compared to only one surface on the vanilla
Entarlas 24. feb. 2016 kl. 15:42
Love it
Dakroth 12. feb. 2016 kl. 16:32
unless it's just a texture change, right?
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 12. feb. 2016 kl. 16:18
Damn, if I'd known that was a factor I might have lined up the front to the actual front. Guess if I change it it's going to screw a bunch of ships up.
Dakroth 12. feb. 2016 kl. 16:16
haha I suspected that, given the lack of markings. So far I've found that when you place the block so that the control panel is on the bottom and to the right, it sort of works properly. I think I might have the roll inverted though.
Kookas  [ophavsmand] 12. feb. 2016 kl. 16:14
I've never thought about that before. Honestly I don't even know. I'll have to experiment and find out.
Dakroth 12. feb. 2016 kl. 16:06
Important question: Which face is the forward and which is top? If power override de4pends of gyro orientation, I need to be able to tell what is what. D:
