OMG i love this idea. Thank you for taking the time for animating critters. It brings such life to a game with utilitarian graphics. It makes the world feel more alive.

This is an excellent idea, actually. Being able to visually distinguish which things are flying at a glance is tactically useful and makes the game look nice.

...seems like there's an incompatibility issue with the Chiromorphs mod. Instead of displaying the sprite shown for it's thumbnail, the village is populated by tiny bats... which is, uh, not correct, even if it's really cute.
Could this get fixed...?

Excellent! Makes things seem more alive and distinguishes them from the ground mobs. Especially like how the animations aren't overly exaggerated, just enough to make it obvious they're "flying".

Ran into a large cavern filled with bats... terrifying!

Thank you to everyone who liked this mod! This is my only mod that became so popular, and I'm incredibly grateful to all of you. I'm happy that it brought so much joy to everyone :) I’m enjoying the movements myself in every run.

U mean the Saps? I think it's in a shadow—lots of sprites in Quadt have shadows shown through transparency because of limited color palettes. Anyway I tried to keep the vanilla sprites intact without going too heavy on creativity. If animated modding becomes a trend, someone else will take it further without me. Just consider this mod as the foundation.

I really like what you did with the plastronoids! your animation perfectly encapsulates the sense of hordes that the plastronoids enforce in the halls of Bethesda Susa! I am very much so looking forward to what you have planned next. I can't even imagine what kinds of mods will come after people realize they can animate the sprites. This could be a whole new paradigm for modding CoQ.

I know, I know. The last guys don’t have wings and are basically tin cans, but hey—they HOVER, and that totally gives them the right to be here! Making a whole mod just for three sprites is kinda sus, though. So yeah, this time it’s definitely the last update. All the other creatures don’t hover or fly, so you can chill—no more content for this mod.

But the next mod… oh, it’s coming… (mysterious music theme)

ahahah))) I had the same thing with Glowmoth—I thought it was some kinda green blob with legs, tied up in the middle with a ribbon and a cute little bow on top the whole time. And only when I had to figure out how to animate it, I realized the green stuff was actually wings.

THE SAPS ARE SAPPING! I will be completely and brutally honest, I thought the Saps were like Nectar Drinking birds with a long Proboscis (and thats what the yellow bit was), but I like this interpretation much more, and makes them fit in MUCH more with their faction. Thank you once again. I can honestly say this mod has changed how I interpret the creatures of Qud.

Alright, looks like that’s all the flying creatures available in vanilla. Cool, now I’m gonna take a little break. There’s also a list of five creatures that technically don’t have wings and don’t exactly belong in this pack, yet they FLOAT.

So, let’s decide—should we toss these FLOATING robots into this pack or should I make a separate mod for them?

Wow, thanks for the feedback, guys! I hope this becomes a new wave of animated mods, it’s not too complicated if you take a look at the mod code. (by the way no copyright here so feel free to use this to create even more of the same)

Big thanks to Klomn for the initial tests regarding different types of flyers, I'll keep working on that.

Going to update the mod step by step, according to the wiki there are still around 20 flyers to add.
As for animating other creatures I’m still considering it - I wouldn’t want to turn this magical game into a chaotic moving mess. Let's see how things go after handling the flyers.

I do note that this does not affect certain things like legendaries, or fungus-ridden flying creatures. As far as I can tell, using crayons won't do much either. Aside from that, I think this mod makes the flying creatures 500 times cuter, and now I want to use a glowcrow as a pet. I wasn't aware you could just animate tiles like this. Though of course there is the caveat that it only applies to the base creatures, I think this is still an excellent addition and Qud is better off with this active! Thank you.
