i would suggest using real time and real lifecycle together on regular difficulty to get the desired results you are looking for but this is a great mod to make the base game crazy hard. Would be a great challenge of your economic ability.
No Dread 4 Aug, 2016 @ 11:39am
Proper Hardness is a full simulation overhaul, whereas this mod is just harsher thresholds and costs. This mod also works, unlike Proper Hardness.....

A change I'd make is to roads; roads irl are hideously expensive to build and maintain, and tunnels/elevated roads even more so. Push the penalty for not having road maintenance service up, make road maintenance service buildings much more expensive to maintain, and bump tunnel/overpass up from 250% to 400-500%. Also make green power stupid expensive to build (solar/wind/hydro) and maintain (just solar/wind). Because it is.

what's the difference between propper hardness and this mod?
Blondi 21 Mar, 2015 @ 2:32pm
i like this mod, its a fight against land value... but somehow the costs are scrambled up, or not correctly ? i need to pay only 7.5k for a windmill, and a coal plant only costs 23.75k that should be somethign like 12k for the mill and 32 k for the coal plant right ?

is there somethign im missing ?

What about fires spreading if there isn't a firetruck in time.
ShottyMonster  [author] 16 Mar, 2015 @ 2:20pm
Don't forget to post your feedback and I will continue improving the mod. Probably going to work on spreading fires next.
Jim_hatama 16 Mar, 2015 @ 7:48am
can u add crime rates and cost for bulldozing building?
Legion, Duke of Rockford 15 Mar, 2015 @ 6:07pm
Sounds good. More challenges is always good. :p
Tygra 15 Mar, 2015 @ 3:37pm
Awesome, thanks!

Hi everyone, I've put the change log up there. Sorry for delay, new to loading stuff to steam workshop.
Tygra 15 Mar, 2015 @ 4:47am
Great mod but a full list of what is changes would be awesome.

Legion, Duke of Rockford 13 Mar, 2015 @ 11:18pm
I would like to know what this mod does, please.
RaptorMother 13 Mar, 2015 @ 6:22pm
3.0... of what?
venoX^ 13 Mar, 2015 @ 10:59am
Please provide a description what this mod aims to do.
ShottyMonster  [author] 13 Mar, 2015 @ 6:48am
I've updated the mod. Land value bug should no longer occur. I've also increased the level up thresholds for residential, commerical and offices.
ShottyMonster  [author] 13 Mar, 2015 @ 2:27am
Carradine: Thankyou

Jim_hatama: Increased crime rates will be coming (soon TM)
Jim_hatama 13 Mar, 2015 @ 2:09am
add crime?
Carradine 12 Mar, 2015 @ 5:52pm
Finally someone is doing this!!! I can't wait for the ultimate challenge in this game!
Sol 12 Mar, 2015 @ 4:15pm
You should make bulldozing cost the same as to produce, and remove the gold bulldozing gives you.
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 2:30pm
Yeah. I just keep spamming bus lines to increase land value through the roof, combined with city-wide high-tech housing etc. but still, this is madness @~@

I'm working on fixing it now, thanks for the help guys :-)
Bomba cat 12 Mar, 2015 @ 1:48pm
Yep, my lvl 3 house start to cry, some parts are even at 65%. somethings wrong
Bomba cat 12 Mar, 2015 @ 1:44pm
I have loads of parks, at 100%, still have the issue. wonder what happens when they reach higher :D
KyuRizu 12 Mar, 2015 @ 1:05pm
Ok i am done for now.
4500 People
+3000$ Income
every service building build twice
every budget at 100%
every tax at 13%

All in all it looks like a great mod so far, but a little bit to stressfull for me ;)
If i aktivate policices like smoke detectors, i am death. (district polices are very usefull now)

Combo with "no money for milestones mod" works great, now you realy have to use Loans! But in the beginning its a little bit boring because you have to wait for money.

I personal will return to normal hard mode because i want to build more an eyecatching city than spend all in functionality.

Again, great mod so far, if you like a real challange in this game go for it, if you want to play relaxed like me, stick to standart hard mode...and if you want to "paint" a city with absolut no challanges and no punishment no matter what you do, play vanilla. xD
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:33pm
Have you turned up your parks in the budget? Just realized mine were at 60%, turne dem up to 100% and land value problem dissapeared.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:22pm
So basically what I've figured out is the mod is doing what I expected but the Land Value Legend doesn't represent percentages as I'd presumed (dev's confirm?).

It looks like you'll need to place A LOT of parks to increase land value, what I plan to do is significantly increase the affect parks have on land value while increasing their cost and maintainence costs to reflect this. This will result in you only having to place a few parks to get higher level buildings but it will cost a lot (i.e. the equivelant of the current cost of placing a lot of parks).
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:14pm
ツ: On second thoughts I thought I'd set the commerical level 2 threshold at 35% land value, I am getting same issue as you (low land value complaint) but the land value looks to be at 50%. I will look into it asap.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:13pm
ツ: That's expected, I've significantly increased the threshold values but what causes a shop to level up primarily is if you have enough wealthy customers. So if you generate wealthy customers then some shops will open to catar to them, however if the land value is too low they may close again. Build plaza's around your shops to support them (like SC4) otherwise they will downgrade to level 1 shops again and in turn this will cause level 2 residential to downgrade.

Whether or not this is good gameplay remains to be seen, slight tweaks to numbers are more than likely going to come in a day or two after more feedback.

Bomba cat 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:03pm
OK! when all my shops went to lvl 2 they started to say low land value. Yet all the area is "blue" middle of the land value meter
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 12:02pm
Cargo train depots, even though they don't connect to anywhere. Still, they have a rather mediocre area of effect. I think bus stops and subway stations help as well.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:57am
Lol really don't understand what makes industry level up in this game. I just plopped a load of parks and the levels dropped...
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:54am
I will try and mod it so that industry needs are slightly lowered then. I will also attempt to mod so that schools do not affect industry but only parks and such
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:53am
I have littered the area with parks until their leisure rating was bright blue, and provided all the other services, too, even a graveyard. Maybe you have to do that before the schools actually matter, but I dunno x_x
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:53am
Oh wait I tried it again and I noticed it moved! About 10% of 1 level. Kinda dumb that schools affect industry like that, I guess they are "vocational" schools hahaha
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:51am
Aarki: Yes that's what I did before, I left it a few weeks as well and saw no change... wierd :D
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:50am
I guess they also affect office districts, but I havent tried that yet.
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:47am
Just try it with an isolated industrial district that is completely out of reach of all of your schools and universities, then plop all the schools down right next to each other (preferably a big road, so their reach is extended), and watch the lvl bars. Of course you should have the game paused when fiddling with the schools, so you can see the effects of all the changes combined when you unpause. It takes a couple of days though, you have to fast forward a little.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:39am
Aarki: OK, it's kinda hard to decypher because "too few services" doesn't really say a lot :D but at a guess it looks like all "service" buildings affect industry (even though I can't replicate that on my game). If this is the case then that is seriously dumb, why would a school affect the industry level? I guess this is another thing I can add into the mod if the dev's release that functionality.

Thankyou very much for your time mate

If I switch the schools back on, they're happy again. Also there's no residential for quite a bit.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:33am
ツ: Thanks, I am at 3k now with not many problems, I am tempted to say it is still too easy however let's see what happens in the mid game it may get very hard... :D
Bomba cat 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:31am
Im at 2.5k now, dont have any problem. I like the cost of moving things, it makes you decide where to place it.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:20am
Aarki: can you post a screenshot to show me what is happening? I have a sneaking suspicion you have zoned residential next to/near your industry and that is what is changing land values when you place educational buildings.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:18am
I have placed a school in the middle of industrial area and land value did not change. I did get smiley faces on the industry buildings but the level up bar did not move at all in either direction.

Here is a screenshot:

⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:13am
Now that I took the schools, the already lvldup industry is complaining about low land value. As soon as I place the schools back in range, they stop complaining and some other industries in the area level up again.
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:08am
Weird, for me as soon as I delete the schools the levelup-bar drops by at least 20%. Of course the school coverage has to go from bright green to completely gray to see the full effect.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:05am
Aarki: Just tested and I'm 99% sure that placing education buildings near industry doesn't make a bit of difference to the industry level.

Placing education buildings near residential however will indirectly increase the level of industry buildings as workers become more educated. This is expected behaviour I believe.
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:03am
Also, the incinerators are a bit overpriced. I mean garbage disposal is something that you can't really save on, otherwise your entire map will eventually be covered in landfills. Even with recycling enabled city-wide it's extreeemely close.
ShottyMonster  [author] 12 Mar, 2015 @ 11:01am
Aarki: Hum ok that is very wierd if correct. Going to test now.
⎛⎝Tiùwilo⎠⎞ 12 Mar, 2015 @ 10:57am
They really are affected by schools, you can try that out rather easily by watching their lvlup meter before placing and demolishing all the types of schools in their vicinity.
