Roundabouts... re-teaching the lesson that what looks good on paper doesn't work so well in the real world since 1960 (Here in the USA we managed to bully the engineers away from them until the 1990s)

@Ellyphant: I used it in one of my cities, and it did work (though I also use TMPE). However I had a huge jam on my highway, and after playing with different road sizes to try to reduce the jam I eventually replaced the whole thing with his Stack Interchange ( https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407933040 ). That one worked much better.

Does this actually work in game? As you said, the idea of a roundabout is that traffic within the roundabout has right of way, but I don't believe this is respected in game - on ramp traffic always has right of way (unless this has been patched without me noticing).

Well I am basically a toddler and frankly, mountains are awesome. So, did you make this for me? :D

Seriously though, you are, a godsend to all cities skylines players. Timboh = Quality.

Awesome looking but if drivers had stress levels that lead to accidents, I think a roundabout within two highways would peak it. I can't stand roundabouts under simple circumstances... lol

Ireland is a bit stunted in the development of motorways and interchanges the part of the country that I'm from doesn't have any motorways within 150km keeping in mind the total length of Ireland is only 500km
Timboh  [author] 8 Nov, 2015 @ 12:53pm
@Ronan_Dubh: Huh, seems like the TII are very strict about the shape. I went looking around in the bigger cities in Google Earth and, to my suprise, couldn't find a single non-circular roundabout! Well, there is this horseshoe-thing [ https://www.google.se/maps/place/Island+Bridge,+Dublin,+Irland/@53.3435042,-6.3075359,244m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x48670c4e6626d1af:0x26f9c30ad6de71d8?hl=sv ] but that one is borderline a squareabout. I guess square rondabouts simply aren't a thing in Ireland. :)
Ronan_Dubh 8 Nov, 2015 @ 11:45am
I'm Irish, so round abouts are a very common sight here, but they are seldom square, maybe, some oval but the vast majority are round
Timboh  [author] 8 Nov, 2015 @ 8:12am
@Ronan_Dubh: The defining feature of a roundabout is not its roundness, but rather that traffic inside it has right-of-way. I guess you've never been to the UK ;)
Unfortunately you can't call it a squareabout, since that's a very different thing...
Ronan_Dubh 7 Nov, 2015 @ 1:13pm
Why is the roundabout square?..........its a round--about
kcmoanker 22 Aug, 2015 @ 8:52pm
They just tore down one of these on Interstate I-29 in Sioux City Iowa, because it was so bad. But there are no accidents on the roads that I can tell in Cities: Skylines, so download away! :)

i'm guessing the recent udpates to your interchanges are to add thumbnails in game?
Super_ 18 Jun, 2015 @ 2:20pm
Yeah and millions of idiots. Plus the UK is supposed to be cold yet i'm boiling at nights with no clothes or anything on.

@Super The Sylveon: Well, if you'd like to live in a country filled with politically correct, socially repressed, humour deprived, fermented-herring eating Volvo owners; feel free to come visit us! I'll be there to give you the grand tour of the desolate, cultural backwater we all call Sweden...

...oh, who am I kidding, I love it here! But I really like the UK too. I mean, you've got gingers and Doctor Who, among the best things in life ;)
Super_ 18 Jun, 2015 @ 1:24pm
But Sweden isn't full of twats like here in the UK :D
Timboh  [author] 18 Jun, 2015 @ 10:50am
@ckyliu: Yup, adding those bypass slip roads definitely improves the interchange's capacity. I didn't add them myself because I thought it would be nice for the user to choose whether to upgrade it or not themselves. Good observation there ;)

And let's just say I spend alot more time watching BBC, which is broadcasted here in Sweden for some reason, than I do watching Swedish television. British humour is miles ahead of the junk we have here up north :D
ckyliu 18 Jun, 2015 @ 8:52am
Love all your descriptions, you've a very British sense of humour! Any benefit to adding left turn bypass lanes (or right turn bypass lanes for LHD)?

Thanks! I don't think the ramps are really any farther apart in my version, though. In fact, when making a right turn (say, from northbound to eastbound), the ramps actually intersect at the same point on the roundabout. (The same place where the city street connects, too.) I'm not sure if that's good or bad for traffic flow yet, as I haven't had heavy enough highway traffic to really show any interchange capacity issues in one of my cities yet (I only get backups due to poor offramps).

Unfortunately there seems to be a weird pathing issue with zigzagging on and off ramps on my modular set. Cars on the frontage road will zig onto the freeway and then zag right back off of it, or vice versa, I suppose since the on/off ramps are higher speed than the front road so they count as a better path. Not sure why cars on the highway go off on a ramps and then right back onto the highway though. Very strange. Something I'm going to have to play with some more to come up with an optimal design.

@Tallinu: Having the roundabout on ground level is indeed very useful. The reason I choose to elevate mine was to make it look more like the real life equivilant, sacrificing some capacity for aesthetics. And about the (round)about, the shape of it is a bit fudged to reduce its size, and also reducing the distance between the ramps closest to the corners, so that traffic won't have to stay for that long inside the roundabout.

Oh, and I had a look at your collection, and I have to say, I love the idea of a "modular" set, where the assets are like puzzle pieces! I love what I'm seeing this far, and I'm looking forward to see what you'll come up with next! :D
Tallinu 18 Mar, 2015 @ 1:40pm
You've inspired me yet again! Not only did I design my own version with a *ahem* round roundabout, I then realized that placing it at ground level instead of in the middle would reduce cost and allow easy addition of built-in frontage road access points, turning it into a minor local access point as well as a four-way interchange!

It's in my collection here, if you're interested: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=409917155

I like this on especially to all the other ones, i mean they all are really good. but there is something about a roudabout that seems to make my city more fung shwa
