would be nice if you updated it so gardevoir has more to compensate for the big loss to damage... like a magical ability or debuff to enemies
i was thinkinh something about her blackhole ability that gets hinted at the pokedex over and over again but never is seem
guess i am gonna keep waiting
But thank you for this cool mod it really helped me out for surviving with a friend (we are kinda noobs at this game :P). keep up the good work ;)
if you dont rebalance her then dont do anything...
sorry for the misunderstanding
and the speedboost, well, i thought of it being in a circle like gardevoir, was just an idea
I'm not 100% sure what you're asking. You'd like a second version with different abilities? This one already possesses healing. Granted it's slow, but I actually think it's still very powerful in the game setting. A burst healing abilitiy, the sort that would counter an attack, would likely be completely nuts, unless the cost practically depleted the user's resources. As for a speed boost, affecting characters around you with it seems rather pointless since they'd just run out of range quickly and cease to be affected. It's also a rather transparent source of power that is likely to go unnoticed.
maybe add another character with, i dunno, speedboost and healing?
Due to technical limitations, the playstyle choice is server-wide, and can't be tuned to individual players if multiple are playing Gardevoir. Sorry!
Based on playing it, nice changes would be to:
1) Transform certain passive skills into active skills or add active counterparts with a drawback (such as a secondary aura that regenerates HP at a high rate but has a big impact on sanity/hunger).
2) Add a toggle and a drawback to the light aura (this is the main reason why people tell this character is easymode).
Safeguard as permanently active: By all means, keep it like that, adds some "danger" to playing this character (she is already inmune to any kind of sanity loss or even darkness).
Merging light and sanity auras into one single skill: I would not mind it, really, might even be easier to code for you (I would try if my LUA skills did not suck).
Toggle-ability: Definitely worth trying. There is many mods out there which have keybinds, I like to refer to playable pets for the apparent simplicity of its files, uses something named keyhandler to send information to the server.
Again, thank you for your feedback, it gives me insight into how other people play too. If I do look into making her abilities hotkeyable as discussed above, it may also be worth making them optional entirely, so people who enjoy her passive nature currently don't have to forgo it.
The light and sanity auras could be toggleable, and a penalty draining hunger while active makes sense. I'll look into it, do let me know what you all think. If I go this route, should I combine them into one ability? If you look at the artistic representation of Gardevoir's safeguard in Smash Bros Brawl, it is reasonable to do so, and I am hesitant to overload the character with complications, the game demands enough micromanagement as is!
Thank you so much for your comments, it's really nice to hear what other people like and dislike! Otherwise, I'm left tweaking it to what I find most fun (which I'll confess sometimes leans towards "easymode").
I didn't know there was a 1'000 character cap on comments, so this is actually going to be broken across three! So bear with me!
Firstly, Recover > Heal Pulse: done. I have never owned a DS so my knowledge drops after R/S/E, so I didn't know this was a thing, I just used artistic licence :)
Secondly, I understand what you mean about everything being statically active, and that's partly because I never thought to do it any other way, hotkeyed abilities being slightly outside of my skillset at the time (I'm still learning).
2) Gardevoir does not learn recover (which is a self-heal move) as far as I know, but she learns heal pulse (which is basically a move that heals other pokemon). A name change would not hurt!
3) The lines she says whenever someone enters or leaves her aura could have a longer cooldown, as it gets a liiiittle bit annoying after the 10th time you read it. It is, however, a good device to know when a player is under your buffs, though.
Overall, I like this mod, and it could use some improvements! I hope you take this as the friendly feedback it is, after playing several games with friends and gathering their opinion, we all came to the conclusion that she has plenty of advantages with no real drawback and makes the game extremely easy for everyone around her.
This character is passively doing all of her skills at once, which means it is permanently having a source of light, is regenning sanity, which costs nothing to mantain and on top of that is using that safeguard to transfer damage to itself without a chance to turn it off (in case it gets dangerous). As it is the character is sort of overpowered, even for a support.
Take this as constructive feedback, a system to toggle the different skills on and off by keybinding would really make this character better, and also a drawback for certain skills (like increase the hunger rate when the character is doing certain things, or players are getting healed in her aura or a hunger cost for having flash on). I would not change anything about the passive regeneration, as it is so slow it almost never comes to play, which is good to heal up after big fights, but not during them.
The longer answer is it's a metaphor, drawing parallels between Link as the protector of the princess of Hyrule, and the abilities I've given Gardevoir allowing her to be the self-sacrificing protector of her friends, as per the pokedex. On that note, the Hylian shield represents her strong defensive nature, and the sword her fierce willingness to engage those that threaten the one's she protects. Julia Golding's Companion Quartet also used the imagery of a sword in a very unique oxymoron - that the sword could represent a healer as well as warrior, cutting with scalpel precision to the heart of the injury and confronting it. This imagery is echoed by the legendary sword being wielded by Gardevoir here , not just as a weapon, but representing her ability to heal the bodies and minds of her allies, a rare and powerful phenomenon in the harsh and unforgiving world of Don't Starve.
