hu ash, any plans to make a version for city skyline2, now that mods will be available?

Can somebody make a version of this for the current version of the game (2023)?

@ash Since you haven't done anything for almost a year, can I take it you won't update it?

I have a feature request. Can you make it to where the generator can add a gentle sloping grade from one side of the map to another? This would make forming rivers a little easier as the riverbeds would not be perfectly level.

Sorry to hear people are having issues with the mod. I haven't played CS for a while as my PC really struggles once population gets towards 50k. However I'm upgrading my PC soon and will likely be playing again. No promises but I'll possibly look at a fix for the mod then. The code hasn't changed since I wrote it, but obviously CS has been updated a few times since so possibly API calls that worked back then must no longer work.

In my eyes one of the "Must Have" Mods that still works with the current Version of the game (but i'm not playing with the Natural Disasters DLC)
And for those who also wanna place trees and resources randomly i recommend the "Terrain Generator" https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=453425585
But i have a question to the modder.
Can i change the gradient noise image that the od works with to create more variants of maps?

Keeps producing the same busted map, no matter what I try.

I'm getting this same error. Also, somehow one of my cities became corrupted. I may upload it if you want to take a look...

I installed this ages ago, and now the icon seems to have disappeared. Where and what am I looking for?

Great tool for creating base maps! Thanks.

Is there anyone that does/could do a youtube tutorial for this? (especially ash?) That is certainly one way you can derive money from making a mod?
The button shows up if you start into a new map but doesn't show up if you load an old one; is this by design?

When I click it on the generator button...Today ill try to check all my assets and mods one by one
ash  [author] 13 Nov, 2015 @ 4:51am
Sorry to hear that Nick Péron. I've just tried generating a few maps on the latest updated Skylines and it works as normal, no crashes. The mod only uses proper API calls to set the heightmap so it's not doing anything weird. Does ti crash when you click on the Generate button or somewhere else?
H.Romeu Pinto 11 Nov, 2015 @ 9:57pm
Nice idea, but its crashing my game, no idea why, no message, nothing. Tested withou other assets, and still bugging. Maybe the engine is not reliable enough yet. Hope it gets fixed

Wilbur also has an excellent 3d view of your height map. Go to menu: Window, 3d Preview Window.

If you do this on an import from C:S you'll probably just see a black screen. This is because the "Vertical Scale" text box is set to 1 and heights from C:S are big numbers (eg 15000). Change the Vertical Scale to something like 0.00001 and you be able to rotate and zoom a nice view of your landscape.

In Wilbur one way of creating simple mesas is to go to the menu: Filter, Height Clip, and change Max to some value that cuts off the higher peaks. There may be other more realistic ways too, not sure. Have fun.

Thanks GTD-Carthage. It's really just the algorithm I use (gradient noise) versus the algorithm used by ziekdrama (diamond sqaure) that makes the difference. I just made it available in Cities Skylines (C:S) as a mod.

On mesas: not ideal, but if you set the mountains height scale to 0.6 or more you'll get mesas at the tops of mountains. You could then try to lower the whole area.

Erosion: I've played with water based erosion in the past but I'd need to do a lot of tweaking/testing to add a worthwhile version to this mod. I'll never say never though (if I can find the time).

Instead, are you familiar with the free tool called Wilbur? I use it for adding things like erosion etc to an existing heightmap. See: http://www.fracterra.com/software.html

Export a heightmap from C:S as PNG. Open in Wilbur and apply erosion as well as many other things. Save to PNG, import back into C:S. In fact mesas should be possible in Wilbur too.

This mod is excellent, and readily makes more city-appropriate terrains then ziekdrama's (which is, also, very good nonetheless!)

Just a minor thought though - perhaps we can eventually have some mesas and ramps? Kind of like the RTS games of old, where there were higher layers of flat elevations. I just like the idea of having the city overlook another part.

Also, what do you think of simulating mountain erosion during heightmap generation, to give them that realistic, outcroppy look? :)

This is a very good mod. It's a useful tool that should be implemented the game!:steamhappy:
ash  [author] 15 Aug, 2015 @ 7:24am
Happy you find it useful. Yes it should work alongside the other Terrain Generator. Apart from having the same toolbar icon it should be fine. In both mods generating terrain replaces any existing terrain though, so be careful if you have made some manual edits to a map and don't want to lose them.
Swan Ronson 14 Aug, 2015 @ 2:36pm
Is this compatable with the other one?
