I might try it myself with the turret on there, it looks neat. Not sure if it's effective on this kind of fast-attack craft, but worth a try anyways.

Yes they are. At the moment they are part of the pirate faction (arrr, did ye hear that matey?!) so they are hostile.
In the next patches more and more factions will be integrated and they will all get their respective own faction.

are your ships going to be hostile ingame?
