If you have (Either/Both) Mod(s) installed you will have information in the different object descriptions in-game; IE "-paintable" at the end of the description.
Unless you have other mods overwriting my "strings" you should be able to find out how it works! But!...
The fact I override base objects does come at a risk; honestly I cant say what mods work well together and which don't, appart from my own things..
-As a rule I try to not override, but incase of these it is the ONLY way currently to get varying required/usable items (and unique to my mods)..
I can use it fine with every other mod out there.

The message is always exactly the same. And rarely, the game don't do the glitch
If they are covering the same subject (doors) then unless its a simple retexture mod it will conflict with "paint, upgr.." somewhat or it will be overruled (based on mod order).
As to your specific glitch...? I have never seen or heard it... does it come up with any kind of message about mods by itself?

I just have a bug with the game since some mounths after buying the game (I don't remember exactly when I bought the game, It was before alpha 28), each time a start the game, all the materials appear black. To play with texture, each time, I have to press APPLY in mod menu. Do you know how can I fix the bug?
I can now confirm the next update of this mod will contain sweet wall/roof mounting bulbs, the bar light; both emit light... Plus I am working on adding a super large 4 wide window (for execution viewing? -I use it for that :D)! Also adding 2 signs, and the 2 wide-barricades..
(gave the bar a neon light-texture; but doesn't do much for emitted light tone)
