LOL I just had an instance of a squaddie level shadow (with sword) tried to slash at an Advent trooper. He ran right up to him and bonked him in the face with the butt of his rifle (beatdown mod) instead.

I didn't understand why until I paused the mission to do research: He doesn't have the slash skill. I'm guessing that "Gust Slash" will allow him to use the sword once he reaches Corporal, right?

@IBuProfen - yes, i want to add that perk to the GTS for Shadow. unfortunately i havent had time to work on the mod. completely replacing a class is possible but that would be a very bad idea for a mod. right now Shadow has the same chance to be selected for a soldier as any other class.

Who's the pretty lady in the thumbnail?

@riskbreaker76 what i mean is that the default group that xcom gives you is a Ranger, Sharpshooter, Grenadier, and a Specialist.

But with this mod, i feel like the Shadow class replaces the Ranger (at least with my playstyle) and i was wondering if he can be swapped into the default 4 classes you get after completing your first mission.

Also, on another note. Because i use Shadow to replace the Ranger class, is there a way to swap the Guerilla Tactics School Ranger buff to Shadow. The Ranger buff that gives you +3 Damage when flanking enemies would be nice if it was also unlocked with the corresponding Shadow rank.

Well I mean, the 'workaround' is just leveling them like you would normally play the game. Don't use console commands to skip levels. Or, if you need to test them, do LevelUpBarracks 1 for the first level (from rookie to squaddie), promote them manually, THEN finish leveling them with LevelUpBarracks 6. Otherwise, they'll skip over their squaddie level promotions being applied.

There IS a workaround actually, kinda, but you'll have to search r/xcom2mods to find it. Someone mentioned it in one thread (search for LevelUpBarracks in the titles), though im not sure if its worth changing.

Im not really sure what Ibuprofen there is talking about though. I think he's confused as to when classes get promoted, because in the first mission, you've got all rookies and dont HAVE anyone with classes. Looking at your screenshots, your troops have both squaddie rank abilities.

@IBuProfen - not sure i understand your question about swampping class at first mission.
riskbreaker76  [author] 18 Feb, 2016 @ 4:08pm
@A Big Hairy Monster - so is that just the workaround? is there any way to fix/avoid that via mod code?
A Big Hairy Monster 17 Feb, 2016 @ 10:08am
I CAN tell you that it's not related to assigning 2 skills at squaddie rank - thats actually the norm for all classes but ranger. You don't see it in-game on any class but Specialist (who gets Aid and Hack), but Grenadiers get Launcher and some kind of empty functions (its just a () in the promotion line), and Sharpshooters get some kind of pistol standard that I'm not clear on what it does.

But from my own classes, I can tell you that 2 skills at squaddie works fine - several of mine have them, like Psiblade, who gets Slash and Soulfire.
A Big Hairy Monster 17 Feb, 2016 @ 10:08am
I can answer the thing about the concealment issue, maybe - There's actually an issue with the promotion function that the game doesn't actually give you abilities correctly if you've skipped over their promotion screen at squaddie ranking. Basically, what this means in game terms is that until you actually click on 'Promote Soldier' - AT SQUADDIE RANK to see the class assignment, you don't get assigned the skills for squaddie. I learned this when I was applying LevelUpBarracks in console to test my class mods.
Red 17 Feb, 2016 @ 12:42am
Oh, also would it be possible to swap the Shadow class with the Ranger class at the first mission, when the squad's ranks are revealed?
Red 17 Feb, 2016 @ 12:34am
Yes, i also think that that is the issue.

Keep us posted. i <3 your mod.
riskbreaker76  [author] 16 Feb, 2016 @ 7:18pm
@IBuProfen - ok, i'll look into that when i have time. it might be because im trying to assign 2 skills at squaddie rank. it does show up that you have them but maybe only one is actually working.
Red 15 Feb, 2016 @ 11:22pm
I also have the concealment problem.

Everyone was revealed during the first "hot" mission. The ninja was at the Squadie Rank.

When i clicked on the Ninja there was no cowled/hooded masks at the top of the screen.

I think what you'd have to do to restrict the stats to a branch is hard code the stat boost each perk on that side of the tree. Its a bit cludgy though, and kinda screws you if you want to take some of each side.

I tried poking around in the blademaster perk, but Im kinda a noob at scripting, and it didnt seem to have what I was looking for. Or rather, it does have a function that class to add +2 damage, but its done differently that I wouldve expected. But you might look there for inspiration.

FUN
riskbreaker76  [author] 14 Feb, 2016 @ 1:33pm
@kmasterofchaos - yeah that's the problem with not being able to regulate and restrict secondaries per branch. same issue w/ not being able to set exclusive stat upgrades per branch hence why Ninja gets the hacking skills too. nothing to be done about that at the moment.
kmasterofchaos 14 Feb, 2016 @ 9:57am
Gust slash and dancing edge doesnt use sword they use pistol attacks so they are pretty op especially dancing edge since everything i can see i can shot at it with my pistol so its basically faceoff in enemy movement retardedly strong
Akyan 14 Feb, 2016 @ 9:19am
Yea same issue with concealment. When your squad goes in "hot" and isnt concealed neither is your shadow class. However the rogue and ranger are
Akyan 14 Feb, 2016 @ 8:15am
Alright ill check it out again. Mightve just overlooked it a bit.
riskbreaker76  [author] 13 Feb, 2016 @ 6:58pm
@gamejunk25 - what rank is your soldier? you dont get your sword slash until you actually start the Ninja path although you can equip one at squaddie rank. the default secondary is a pistol. i tested the concealment part and it was working fine...at the start of the mission and also when you use the Vanish ability. i havent heard from anyone else having concealment issues.
Akyan 13 Feb, 2016 @ 5:49pm
Im thinking that my Shadow class is bugged. Unit doesnt start in concealment. And the sword is equipped on my character but no sword abilities are able to be used.
riskbreaker76  [author] 12 Feb, 2016 @ 9:39pm
@ϣrϵcκ - if you read the description, i explained they were copies and that this class was a WIP. the only new ability is the one from the author of the Rogue mod.
@Invisigoth - this should not conflict w/ the rogue mod linked in the description. that author helped me w/ this mod and i made sure that all the abilities were renamed. if there is another similar class mod out there, then it might be conflicting w/ that. i would have to check. i know the author of the Rogue mod had issues w/ conflicts because alot of people straight up copied his code w/ no changes.
Scorpiova 12 Feb, 2016 @ 9:34pm
cool thanks
Arkan 12 Feb, 2016 @ 9:31pm
i'm affraid this mod might conflict with other assassin / rogue / shadow operative class mods already avaliable... :orb:
◬ TRIΛNGLE MΛN ◬ 12 Feb, 2016 @ 9:19pm
:( I thought these were all new abilities... I think it would have been more interesting to have something mostly new.
riskbreaker76  [author] 12 Feb, 2016 @ 9:11pm
@scorpiovaeden - when you become this class, the default secondary is the pistol. just make sure you equip the secondary appropriate for the path you take.
Scorpiova 12 Feb, 2016 @ 8:37pm
Should the sword been seen on the model? My characters that have this class, are not getting a sword at all.
riskbreaker76  [author] 12 Feb, 2016 @ 8:21pm
@Invisigoth - just adds to the existing.
Arkan 12 Feb, 2016 @ 6:09pm
Very Good! Thank for this Mod!
(*clearing confusion: this mod replaces classes or just adds?) :d2antimage:
riskbreaker76  [author] 12 Feb, 2016 @ 5:00pm
@ljsalty - uploaded to nexusmod: http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/188?
Kaerius 12 Feb, 2016 @ 1:10am
I like that you've made copies of the abilities instead of reused them straight off, because reusing causes bugs with the AWC(If the AWC gives you an ability in your tree, you lose a perk pick).
coilysiren 12 Feb, 2016 @ 12:17am
How's a fully specced Ninja compare to a blade Ranger?
ljsalty 12 Feb, 2016 @ 12:06am
Looks great, however could you upload this on Nexusmod.com as I am tired of having to restart games when the mod gets changed and ends up corrupting my current save file. Many Thanks.
