Personally, I find some of the missions unplayable without it (the only mod I've seen come close to this is the surrender mod). I know you're probably sick of hearing people ask for an update to this mod, and I know it doesn't come easy trying to update it in the first place, but please consider updating this mod if you/when you come back to Xcom 2. This mod is a hidden gem that, quite frankly, is underrated as hell.
Thematically, ADVENT will just yank the dead Commanders chip and slot it into a new host, which is why you want to secure the corpse for your own intel.
It would be a cool mechanic if you could extract the corpse by retracing your steps to the tunnel entrance, but since 'AI hunt mode' engages once the Commanders pod is revealed this would be really hard.
That said, most missions in WOTC have had the timer re-worked or removed anyway. When the Chosen show up any timers actually pause which is really helpful.
The objective will stay in the list. You will get a mission failed. It won't affect your monthly resources.
You can start in the middle of a game, even in the middle of a mission
Refreshing XCOM2 to Vanilla / Clearing Corrupt .ini's
For best results, always start a new game when doing a mass mod work. XCOM 2 is very poor at removing previous modded ini files even if you unsubscribe from a mod.
First deactivate all current mods using the game launcher (this may take a few minutes). Now exit the launcher.
Right-click XCOM 2 in your Steam library -> Properties -> Validate Game Cache
Whilst that is running, navigate to your ' Documents/My Games/XCOM 2/XCOM game/Config ' and delete all the config files there.
Once Steam Validates, launch XCOM 2 'clean' (no mods checked) and get to the main menu. This regenerates those deleted vanilla config files.
You can now exit the game, go back to the launcher and renable your desired mods. Make sure you are thinking about any potential conflicts if you are using other gameplay mods which may target the same element.
You might know how to do this already, but I will copy paste my notes on how to refresh the ini cache for Xcom 2.
@Elite are you sure you really did fail the mission? It literally says in the description that whilst the interface tells you Mission Fail & the sad music plays, when you get back to base you are awarded all the victory conditions as normal and the Spokesman congratulates you.
