I'm a hudge fan of the show and your work matches perfectly with the game, but the WOTC client says that it is not compatible with the DLC, so would it work or not ? Is it a WOTC version planned if not ? I would love so much to hear Archer's voice on XCOM ! Thanks a lot for your work anyway !
Yeah, that listening to your own voice aversion is hard to get over. It's easier if you're not doing your normal speaking voice.
I think it's Parkinson's disease in which people tremor really badly until they try to do fine work with their fingers and then they are completely fine. Perhaps its the same sort of thing?
May I ask what you are using for a mic?
I did the Spunkles the Squirrel voicepack myself, and it wasn't universally loathed, so I'm now recording cues for a man-out-of-time Conan-the-Barbarian type character, Nonec Mak Morn. I was playing him funny at first, but I've realized it's funnier if you play him straight. So I'm in the middle of that now.
I have the added challenge of a fairly severe speech impediment, but I don't stutter while doing voices, funnily enough. It does make my stutter MUCH worse when I revert back to my normal voice though. It's a freaking minefield lol. I'll get there eventually.
I've actually been dealing with some annoying esses myself, but I didn't make eliminating them a priority. There is a plug-in which claims to do it [wiki.librivox.org], but I haven't used it. I'll poke around with it soon and see what it can do. I've mostly dealt with it so far by slapping a limiter on the offending section. Once you have a radio effect on and music playing that's usually just enough. If you are recording your own clips a pop filter should help tone down obnoxious esses as well.
I've just started doing a "me" voice as well, since none of my friends are keen to be in front of a mic. How is it going for you?
If you want to add the dreamland stuff without redoing everything, consider using my guide on building faster voice packs . There are sections at the end about moving old packs to the new system. It takes about an hour to set up the new system and about half that to give tags to the files you have already assigned. Just thought I would present the option.
As for more stuff, I do have a bunch of new lines pulled from the Dreamland season. I just have to remember how to add them without remaking the whole thing from scratch. Which I refuse to do. So bear with me.
