I just dislike the new version's skills compared to this one. I really like the idea of main hand melee, but the skills kind of kill it for me :\
LeoArcticaa 12 Jul, 2017 @ 4:37am
@Musashi - Haha that would be funny if you can ^^
Musashi  [author] 12 Jul, 2017 @ 4:36am
Maybe with the expansion I can highjack some new animations to use for this @LeoArcticaa
LeoArcticaa 12 Jul, 2017 @ 4:28am
I like the new version of this, the only thing that breaks imersion for me is that when in cover, they use the animation for holding a gun :<
☠Мрачный Типϟ 22 Jun, 2017 @ 1:39am
Ok((
Musashi  [author] 22 Jun, 2017 @ 1:37am
Because i like the samurai with primary melee weapons.
☠Мрачный Типϟ 22 Jun, 2017 @ 1:30am
why no?
Musashi  [author] 22 Jun, 2017 @ 12:51am
No
☠Мрачный Типϟ 22 Jun, 2017 @ 12:21am
Plz update this for LW2! No need primary melee weapon!:Rivals:
Arkhangel 18 Jun, 2017 @ 10:11am
@furryboy: the new Templar Hero class might help, given it's a trooper in the xpac that's not hardcoded to have a "carrying rifle" stance, and thus would look less screwy than the current "personality" one does.
furryboy80 28 Apr, 2017 @ 1:21pm
currently i prefer this one but will watch the new version as it progresses... maybe if i feel it looks better later i'll give it another shot
SentySent 12 Apr, 2017 @ 11:44pm
I know this mod is deprecated but the Dragon Strike is quite buggy that it doesn't focus on target and I can't activate it with my mouse button. Maybe just one more fix and you can stop maintain it after that.
Wendersnaven 11 Apr, 2017 @ 7:11pm
I'm mid-campaign and switched back to this one. Everything is working fine and the talents replaced based on positional slot. A Neo-Samurai (using a gun in the main slot) feels fine to me- and I'm a Kendo student. I won't shun the Tepo. I like where the new class work is going, but the animations are really breaking immersion for me. (I have o.c.d. about many things.) Oregato for leaving this up Musashi-san. :KneelingBow:
Musashi  [author] 9 Apr, 2017 @ 10:19pm
I will not delete this version, but I also don't maintain it anymore.
Spiritclaw 9 Apr, 2017 @ 7:54pm
Despite being 'deprecated,' I really like this mod. Its siblings have a lot more dependencies, and I have too many mods already! I usually give my Samurai characters an SMG, which I prefer to throwing knives in the newer version.
Musashi  [author] 3 Apr, 2017 @ 11:39pm
The scripts, though distributied with the mod, get compiled so you can't just modify th .uc files.
You need the sdk for this. I recommend heading oder to reddit /r/xcom2mods. There are a lot of useful links on the right side to get you started.
Lava410 3 Apr, 2017 @ 11:34pm
I'm currently delving into the code of this and want to change things like dragon strikes AP cost. However if I touch that file at all (As it opens with notepad) it breaks the game and won't start. What kind of program can I use to mess with the script to change things like AP cost for perks? I eventually want to learn how to mod in my own things, so if there's anything out there to help me learn this stuff I'd love to see it.

For now: How can I change things like AP cost for dragon strike?

Still need the XComClassData line: +AllowedWeapons=(SlotType=eInvSlot_HeavyWeapon, WeaponType="heavy")

Added to my own and I see you're aware of it (it's in your LW2 Gunslinger class for instance).
Om3ga-Z3ro 17 Feb, 2017 @ 10:40am
Unstoppable perk still grazes with melee attacks, is this a bug?
Zedd 14 Feb, 2017 @ 12:09am
Disapointed that you didn't add a BANZAI ability, so i won't subscribe to this.
DEMOCRACY MANIFEST 9 Feb, 2017 @ 7:18pm
No problem. I still play with the classes because I think they add a lot of fun to the game.
Musashi  [author] 9 Feb, 2017 @ 3:40pm
For exo suits I need to add a line in the class data ini.
Will look at unstoppable. Thx for reporting. Can't work on mods before the 18th though. Please have a little patience.
DEMOCRACY MANIFEST 9 Feb, 2017 @ 12:24pm
I think unless stated otherwise, all custom classes are likely to have bugs with LW2. The unstoppable (never graze) perk doesn't work for me, for example.
Hex: Rauschepauli 9 Feb, 2017 @ 9:08am
ehm i can't equip a heavy weapon to the samurai if i give him an exo suit. is this just for me or encounter others this too? if this is wanted and im just a blind moron and dind't found the line im sry.
Musashi  [author] 8 Feb, 2017 @ 11:56pm
Didn't check them in detail but i am open for suggestions :) currently I am in vacation, when I am back I will play LW2 a bit and start working on mods again.
Jehovah's Witless 8 Feb, 2017 @ 7:49pm
You're the man! Would be interesting if some of the newly made LW2 perks integrate into this skill tree.
Musashi  [author] 8 Feb, 2017 @ 5:50am
Sure though it can take some time to do so.
Jehovah's Witless 8 Feb, 2017 @ 1:23am
Have you considered balancing this class for LW2? I really love this class, great work!
Vevay 29 Jan, 2017 @ 1:31am
Cool ty
Musashi  [author] 29 Jan, 2017 @ 1:22am
Yes though I can't say how balanced it is in LW2 @Vevay
Vevay 29 Jan, 2017 @ 1:14am
Is it compatible with LW2?
Yunzhao 25 Jan, 2017 @ 2:49pm
Congrats for the mod! I love it very much! However, as of recently, the class's name has changed in the game's interface, it is now "LW SAMURAI". Whatever triggered such change? Is it reversible? Many thanks for whatever information you may share!
cbxzcm 22 Jan, 2017 @ 9:52am
In LW2, Slash costs 1 AP, but can only target adjacent enemies.

Does anyone know of a way to make use of One AP Sword (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=645134438) with LW2 and this class?
Arkhangel 21 Jan, 2017 @ 3:23pm
@Musashi: think you can set this so ingame with the training and class list it just says "Samurai"? The mod's name should stay, obviously, but you don't really need your trooper called an "LW Samurai" ingame, or it to say "training as LW Samurai"
Elongation 19 Jan, 2017 @ 12:52pm
@Towerdepths Are you sure you have the long war mod installed? People have come across the issue of Long War Classes not working properly without the base LW Class Mod.
If you do, check your soldier's skill tree, and hover over the squaddie section (first level). There should be 3 slots, or two, with Fleche, and Way of the Samurai. Only the Fleche Icon will actually be actively displayed.
If it does not show it, start a mission, and try aiming at a target with said samurai. If they lose 20% Aim because of "Way of the Samurai" you know that it is properly working.
Arkhangel 19 Jan, 2017 @ 9:58am
I'd honestly swap the shotgun for an SMG then. tis much smaller, and thus shows it's really more the "sidearm" per se.
Mid Favila 18 Jan, 2017 @ 3:22pm
Cool
Musashi  [author] 18 Jan, 2017 @ 8:29am
@Mid
Main reason i don't do that is because i don't like the look of the soldiers holding an invisible gun. As soon as there are animations for this i will gladly remove them.
Mid Favila 17 Jan, 2017 @ 10:08am
(Part two) but it could open up new ability possiblities in the middle tree branch (Maybe call it Bushido?) that focused on ways of gradually increasing what they were capable of, basing it on things samurai were actually trained in, like kenjutsu allowing the unit to counter melee attacks if they evaded them and other sword skills, or a defensive stance that reduced damage by providing half cover, things like that. Alternatively, if not, I'd like to possibly see new weapons based on early Japanese flintlock rifles (which samurai did use) that inflict heavy damage, but require two AP to reload and only have one round capacity.
Mid Favila 17 Jan, 2017 @ 10:08am
Why not remove its access to guns entirely and give it a passive piece of equipment instead, like the Officer's Equipment from the Officer class mod or the Shield from the (I believe) Sentinel class mod? I understand that it would make them slightly less viable and might require a rebalance of Way of the Samurai (Maybe Way Of The Samurai +2 damage and +10 hit chance with swords, as well as +2 points of armor and +1 mobility?) Part one, part two will be immediately above

I tried to upgrade from the Vanilla Samurai class to this LW one, but I came across an interesting issue. My Samurai has Unstoppable, Lightning Reflexes, Yamabushi Heritage, and the one ability that makes Low cover act as High cover (I forget the name... >.<). However, when I move from Vanilla to LW, the Samurai loses its base ability, Way of the Samurai. I'm confused and concerned about how to fix that, because I like what the LW pack has to offer but don't want to use it if I can't even use the core ability.
walkabout2001 1 Nov, 2016 @ 11:52pm
didnt download the side pack..opps..
=[NK]= Col. Jack O'Neil 1 Nov, 2016 @ 3:43pm
Hey guys, I've tried looking at the sdk to change fleche, but haven't had any luck, does anyone else think it's op? Any chance of making a mod to make it maybe 1 in 4 or 5 squares?
walkabout2001 1 Nov, 2016 @ 1:04pm
missing +Fleche
+Sword Slice , just started and noticed i cannot use my sword... any idea how to fix. there seem to be two missing Ability that are blank.
xodarap777 29 Oct, 2016 @ 1:45pm
Pitting Untouchable and Implacable against each other is so rude! :'(
Elongation 26 Oct, 2016 @ 3:17pm
@The_adadm I want to clarify this though really quickly. If let's say that you had the non-LW mod installed previously. Let's say on one soldier you specced points all in the left tree. When you swap to the LW Samurai Mod, the soldier is already specced in all in the 1st tree.
If you were to spec in the right tree in the non-LW version, all of the respective points would be allocated in the 2nd tree. In both cases, you would not be able to access the 3rd tree in the LW Samurai version without retraining the soldier first with an existing promoted soldier.

Jade 26 Oct, 2016 @ 8:06am
Ok thanks
Musashi  [author] 26 Oct, 2016 @ 5:20am
@The_adadm
Never tested it myself, but i quote another subscriber on this matter:
"Rice:
I want to notify you all, that if you are currently on the vanilla Samurai mod, and you want to upgrade to LW Samurai.
1. Install the Long War Perks Mod
2. Unsubscribe to the Vanilla Samurai mod.
3. Subscribe to the LW Samurai mod.
I have just tested it, and no GTS respec is needed. However, you will need a seperate mod to bypass the missing mods wall.

It does work if you upgrade from Vanilla to LW"
Jade 26 Oct, 2016 @ 1:08am
Would replacing the other version of the samurai class with this cause any bugs in my playthroughs?
