Goootcha...
I've played some, just haven't used or really noticed any... ...I assume this is a Sharpshooter weapon?

- Updated: Improved some things, mainly added custom scope textures
Shrike  [author] 9 Oct, 2016 @ 7:36pm
That won't help tho as the masks and textures are very specific to the skin and not usable for any other

Hm, I decided to make a Railgun skin as well now, and I noticed that the workshop files don't even exist for this gun.
Could you please upload the workshop files for the Railgun you made to mediafire or some other site?

Im pretty sure everything goes down to 2k anyways but ill check the texture settings again
The eye needs places to rest, having some clean places is important too but yeah If I have time ill add something small probably. I spent really a lot of time on this set already, especially as every skin is different and dosnt follow the same sheme, and really needed to close that up somewhen. My steam playtime for the last 2 weeks in UE3 was 150+ hours (realistically 120) and there was basically no real playtime

Oh yeah, you can also change a texture's LOD group even after importing it. Just right click the file in the content browser and go to the texture editor and you should be able to change it.

4k textures work, but if the skin gets accepted into the game it will probably be downsampled to 2048x2048 anyway, so you might as well send them a 2kx2k texture so you know exactly how it will look like and Tripwire doesn't have to go through the (extremely minor) inconvenience of opening the image and downsampling it.

It might just be me because I'm both poor and have a lot of free time so any chance of a skin getting accepted is important to me, but I think it's worth it to spend a lot of time on a skin to make it look good. The lack of details is a lost opportunity, but it obviously doesn't *break* the gun. With or without details it's an excellent skin. But if you find yourself with enough time to update the skin with better screenshots and more details, I'd love to see it.

The railgun also has very poor resolution in player view as it is giant and only using 2k, so thats definitely a models issue, also a combination of multiple color channels heavily disorted borders, so I had to make the text white, the other was looking awful in comparison, I really prefered the darker text. The white light is really too bright on the outwards left one, but it didnt seem very standing out ingame, maybe ill fix that

Hey, hm, I don't think the LOD thing is happening, when I import a 2x2k, it really seems to use that, I also tried a 4k for a pattern and that seemed to work unless im really being tricked by myself. I also usually work with deferred compression as it makes importing instant, I strongly assume this is also circumventing downsizing if it should happen at all at default LOD. Thats a very good call tho, I didnt know a weapon LOD existed, thanks man! For the scope, actually the first scope I really edited was the crossbow one and that was the very last skin i made. I didnt really know how to deal with it before, I did some MIC tweaks for the scopes which made then look pretty different but yea extra detail would really have been better, but I already spent too much time on them all.

(I forgot to mention: The design on the thunderbolt and the text on the side are perfect. If I played Sharpshooter, I couldn't possibly use the Railgun if it didn't have this skin.)

- I'm not sure if you forgot (or don't even know about) the texture resolution shown in the screenshots (unless the Railgun's texture resolution is just that bad by default, in which case it isn't your fault) but if you left the texture at its default texture LOD group when importing it (the default is [World] then your skin's details are all warped and low def. Changing it from [World] to [Weapon] will double its resolution from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048, making it WAY more crisp. Either way, if Tripwire accepts it into the game, it will be changed to 2048x2048 so it's nothing to worry about if it gets added. I just think for the preview screenshots you could have changed it so it looks better.

(Apparently my comment didn't go through the first time, so I'll try to rewrite it.)
More feedback:

- The lack of details on the scope is a lost opportunity. If you could have added more things to it like you did for the Crossbow scope, this skin would have been elevated from excellent to near-perfect.
- I'm not sure how much control you have over the glow settings for the Railgun, but I feel like the white lights are way too bright. You should have cut it down by at least 20-30%, because currently it overpowers the rest of the gun and sticks out quite a bit. [Cont]
