just a quick bump on the possibility of a ringwood map... the reservoirs would be awesome to play with and the topography as the valley opens at pompton/oakland would call for some complex solutions to fix the traffic from the north (as is an issue irl that just gets ignored (locals consult wikipedia for the wanaque-ringwood bypass story))

Thanks man ur a life saver

(sorry, correction) Take that huge image you got on Bigmap and paste it *AS A NEW LAYER* onto that template
MrMiyagi  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 12:58pm
Take that huge image you got on Bigmap and paste it onto that template you got from imgur. Resize the Bigmap and move it around until you've got as close a match to the position and size of the template image as possible. I will be making images of this part of the process asap, which will make what I'm describing easier to understand. Hopefully you get it, though. :)
MrMiyagi  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 12:58pm
Use the image that you download from imgur as a "template", just like in the guide. It's a square screenshot just like is shown in the guide.

Then, paste this link on the Bigmap page. https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/40.7356/-74.0583
Start expanding the map shown on Bigmap as explained in the guide, a maximum of 10 x 10 Bigmap tiles. Follow the guide instructions on setting the Bigmap queue and then copy / save the map image once it's done processing.
McLovinDisBit3h 25 Mar, 2021 @ 12:43pm
I never used Bigmap and with the url can i put the imgur link on there?
MrMiyagi  [author] 24 Mar, 2021 @ 3:03pm
Hi @MinisterODE this was my first map with an overlay. 1) The overlay is awful, low res and garbage compared to my later work 2) it's not 1:1 real life scale, it's actually a tiny bit larger of an area than real life, which was figured out by the community only after I made this map.

While I don't have instructions to get a Google map overlay (although I've heard it's possible), you can get openstreetmap content to be really high res and detailed by going to a site called Bigmap. How to use Bigmap for an overlay is in a guide I made: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1275917540
McLovinDisBit3h 24 Mar, 2021 @ 8:26am
Do you have a google maps overlay instead of open street map?

I can finally make my town into a city!!! I'm taking over Mayor Santos lol
Need A Dispenser Here 22 Apr, 2020 @ 7:39am
Many thanks!!!:steamhappy:
MrMiyagi  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 5:12am
Hi Need A Dispenser Here, this was the first overlay map I ever made, so yes, the overlay is just awful compared to what I make now. :steamfacepalm: I also learned more about what actual 1:1 scale is - real life heightmaps from terrain.party are 18x18km whereas true 1:1 scale is a little over 17x17km, so this map would be annoying to try to replicate to-scale. Still, if you want to easily get a high res overlay, skip to the section "Bigmap & Scripts to create high-res Overlays" in my overlay guide. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1275917540 If you don't know how to use scripts, no problem, just follow the instructions for getting the overlay from Bigmap.
Need A Dispenser Here 21 Apr, 2020 @ 2:05pm
Hey, really good map! Altough is there a way to increase the resolution of the overlay map? I mean its great but its kinda difficult to lay down small streets. Thanks.
mflores2250 14 Apr, 2020 @ 7:25am
Really good suggestions. Thanks! I will subscribe to the loading screen mod which seems helpful because I have a laptop, not a desktop so I have to be extra cautious about things.
MrMiyagi  [author] 14 Apr, 2020 @ 7:20am
Best tips: Get Loading Screen Mod. This will help you monitor things to make sure you aren't exceeding your RAM limits (so easy to do with so many cool assets :D )

*Always quit to desktop first*, don't go back to main menu if you're in game and but want to reload a save or change to a different save. Your computer and RAM will thank you. ;)

That should get you on your feet some if you don't know this stuff already. :chirp:
MrMiyagi  [author] 14 Apr, 2020 @ 7:18am
No problem at all! Glad to help, welcome to the game and the community! :)
Just a tidbit on that subject to help you out. What's called a "mod" here in the game (and on the workshop) are actual changes to the game's code, so many of those need to be updated regularly. So with *those*, you do have to be really really careful. If you see something in the mod category that you like, then 1) be sure to check the comments section for problems/complaints or comments that it's working, and read the modder's writeup carefully 2) just add one code mod at a time because you will then be able to tell which mod caused a problem if one pops up (and it can, so this will save you some headaches trying to figure out which mod caused the problem).
mflores2250 14 Apr, 2020 @ 7:08am
Oh ok thanks, still relatively new to the game, so I'm trying to learn still.
MrMiyagi  [author] 14 Apr, 2020 @ 6:55am
Hi, this is a map, so it is always compatible with all versions of the game. Maps, props, trees, and most assets are always compatible. :)
mflores2250 12 Apr, 2020 @ 2:33am
Is the mod compatible with sunset harbor?
MrMiyagi  [author] 10 Nov, 2019 @ 12:45pm
This particular map is positioned in a seemingly odd location to take advantage of the best views of lower Manhattan: from Jersey City :steamhappy: So it was meant to have enough of Manhattan to make a reasonable simulation, and enjoy the view from the Jersey side, where you could build all the ugly garbage and industrial sectors that you don't want to look at. You know, like real life. LOL
theb2blandlord 10 Nov, 2019 @ 11:51am
thts funny. I just recently moved to Jersey from BK to avoid the noise instead the noise finding me. This map is still great, especially with the mass transit and expressways already in place. Did you design this map to be able to fit all the original manhattan streets in it?
MrMiyagi  [author] 10 Nov, 2019 @ 8:35am
Hi, I seriously doubt I'll make another map in this series. I forgot to answer one of your earlier questions: there's so much New Jersey because I'm from there lol. There could be no other explanation for so much NJ, right? :D
theb2blandlord 9 Nov, 2019 @ 7:46am
What up Miyagi...any plans on doing tht upper manhattan portion of the map?
MrMiyagi  [author] 7 Aug, 2019 @ 2:16pm
I doubt I will be making another map in this series, but I know who you can ask. My buddy j_nobbs does some great real life infrastructure maps with a particular interest in airports. I thought he already did Newark airport, but I don't see it on his workshop. Go ahead and ask, though. He's very nice :) https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/profiles/76561198035896056/myworkshopfiles/?appid=255710&p=1
JTheGoat 6 Aug, 2019 @ 7:36pm
Can you include Newark Airport in the next map, like a south New York, and Newark Airport to the north
theb2blandlord 19 May, 2019 @ 12:58pm
@mrmiyagi thx for the feedback. Your right bro. The map I am using is defintely not to scale but I guess that's the sacrifice of getting a representation of the metro area. This map is tempting tho cause with 81 tiles you can still it in. I must ask why sooo much Jersey?
MrMiyagi  [author] 19 May, 2019 @ 11:11am
There are maps out there that do fit, but they're not to scale.
MrMiyagi  [author] 19 May, 2019 @ 11:10am
Hi, at true 1:1 scale, which we now know is a little over 17km 2 and not 18km 2, you can't even get two complete boroughs into a map. :/ Maybe Brooklyn and Queens but probably not all of them. Manhattan (as you see in this map) doesn't fit into one Cities map, it's just too long.
theb2blandlord 14 May, 2019 @ 1:34pm
Mr Miyagi sir...
Why haven't you created a 5 borough map or even a 3.5 borough (manhattan, BK, Qns lower bx, Ft. George SI). Your maps are far better than the Vanilla versions but your NY metro are the most accurate
Atacama 6 Feb, 2018 @ 8:36am
Thank you, that's very helpful! And keep up that great work!
MrMiyagi  [author] 6 Feb, 2018 @ 5:02am
Hey reacore. It's from Open Street Map. Here's the link to Jersey City. https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=jersey%20city#map=12/40.7229/-74.0410
You'll be able to zoom closer to see which are dual carriageways.
Sorry for the poor quality on this overlay, it was one of my first attempts :)
Atacama 6 Feb, 2018 @ 3:23am
@MrMiyagi where can I find the legend to your overlay map? For example, what are the orange lines and red lines...?
SkiRich 7 Jan, 2018 @ 3:21pm
I still blame Jersey.
MrMiyagi  [author] 7 Jan, 2018 @ 11:32am
Hurray for poop water! XD

SkiRich 3 Oct, 2017 @ 12:46pm
Where you in the city about 10 years ago when the entire city smelled like strong Maple Syrup for one day and Mayor Bloomberg blamed the NJ Swamps? Priceless.
MrMiyagi  [author] 3 Oct, 2017 @ 12:00pm
A helpful travel tip for non natives.. Elizabeth NJ's aromas simply must be experienced :D
SkiRich 2 Oct, 2017 @ 3:49pm
Only a native NYer will understand your notes on the map. Hysterical, love it!
MrMiyagi  [author] 26 Jul, 2017 @ 1:36am
Welcome! Top of the Palisades - best view of Manhattan isn't it?
:D jalil.mitchell, that giant rock / hill is so friggin weird Isn't it. "What's this giant rock doing here in the middle of a giant swamp?

Nice im a long islander but I have family who used to have to go there everyday for there jobs
MrMiyagi  [author] 4 Jun, 2017 @ 10:16am
Just me :) It was a big help that I was born and raised there, and had to drive all over those insane highways and rickety old rail lines for a chunk of my work life.
sussin 4 Jun, 2017 @ 9:51am
nice job did you do this on your own or did you have a team
MrMiyagi  [author] 4 Jun, 2017 @ 6:31am
Satellite overlay from Google Earth, made into a photo that fits the mod Overlayer v2, and the image is half transparent so you can see what you're building below the photo. Take a peek at the overlay ;) http://imgur.com/yrkRcsP (It's upside down but that's a technical reason that has to do with the game's sun rotation being backwards lol
sussin 3 Jun, 2017 @ 2:34pm
I can't imagine did you use reference photos
MrMiyagi  [author] 3 Jun, 2017 @ 9:22am
It's definitely a big pain to do so! I didn't make real life maps until I had made a lot of fantasy maps, and then someone taught me some tricks and tools to use that make it a lot easier. Still takes a lot of time, though :)
sussin 3 Jun, 2017 @ 7:29am
oh well you did a great job copying it u have much much much more patience then me I cant copy real areas into games no matter what I try it stresses me out to much
MrMiyagi  [author] 3 Jun, 2017 @ 6:18am
Hi jman, do you mean the recent video from May 16th where he destroyed NYC? That's another person's map which has all of Manhattan. This only has half of Manhattan. On a side note, he's a funny guy :D
sussin 3 Jun, 2017 @ 6:08am
You guys know this was in jack septiceyes video
