Personally I would give 1 production to desert instead of food. That +1 Food has strong effect on Kasbah

@The_Crazy_HoneyBadger

Try the mod alone in a fresh new game and you wont have that behavior.
Putin's Femboi BF 31 Dec, 2017 @ 1:22pm
Visually flood plains have two food in my games...however, they actually provide 0. This breaks the game. Not sure if it is a combination of my mods....I don't have any mods that should conflict...but yeah....can't use this one
JotNyangE 14 Oct, 2017 @ 9:26pm
Such an amazing mod, actually makes desert start slightly more viable. Tundra is still trash.
danwholikespie 13 Jan, 2016 @ 8:03pm
That's it... I'm installing this mod, starting a game as Arabia, and rushing Petra...

Glad you like it! :)

Thanks for your comment!

This mod makes a world of difference so to speak! Great job on it :D
Oof 15 Oct, 2015 @ 8:49am
I feel like every snow tile should count as a fresh water source, lol.
BrutusCz 12 Aug, 2015 @ 2:45pm
What if?
Deserts give only +1 production and snow +1 science. Instead of food.
Do you think that would be nice?
BlouBlou  [author] 13 Apr, 2015 @ 3:27pm
Few hints:

- Everything will be in your Building_expansion.xml, search for "BUILDING_PETRA" and just adjust cost , then delete the food yield in the Building_YieldChanges.

- But watch out for what petra does to Flood Plain, you will need to adjust that too. Since the building doesnt apply on floodplain desert, it will give the bonus +1 food then do a -1 food due to Floodplain. If you just kill the food yield from petra, then the floodplains will actually loose -1 food when petra is built.

- Finally to keep it balanced and well integrated, you should adjust the FLAVOR values of PETRA wich govern the Ai preference for game objects and also your advisors suggestion priority.

Good luck!

Hehe, I guess I have thought too much in theory, without actually checking my theories in game ;)
I guess I agree with your reasoning for tundra, and to be honest I have never checked snow tiles playing with your mod - always avoiding snow cities.

I will try to write sth tomorrow and if I'm stuck, I'll let you know, but I think I have an idea already. Still very much appreciate your offer of help.

@manek

Hi again manek, Farm arent allowed on snow with this mod, only trading posts. About Tundras, the goal is adjust it so it wont be worst than a Desert, hence the farms unlock. About Fertilizer, the bonus is not related to terrain at all but to "features" (in tha case, absence of rivers or lakes) and improvements (farm). So it couldnt be coded to react differently on different terrains. I also dont think in my opinion that would be something balanced.

The goal of fertilizer is to balances inlands cities without lakes or rivers later in game, there is no reasons to exclude a single terrain (tundra) from this bonus gameplay wise. it would, in my opinion defeat the purpose of this mod wich is making city foundation on poor terrain less punitive.

In any case i thank you very much for your comments, i can help you with the code for your Petra mod if you need help.

Good day!

manekk 13 Apr, 2015 @ 2:20pm
Thanks for reply BlouBlou

Let's say I am a beginner - I will probably be able to do it, and if so - probably 10 times slower than you :)
My concern was rather regarding the balance of this mod.
The other thing I thought could help with the balance is also not allowing the farms on tundra and snow get the bonus from researching Fertilizer. 1 food originally, +1 from the farm is enough to make it usable and additional +1 for fresh water (Civil Service) for chosen tiles close to rivers make it already interesting enough to avoid adding bonus for all the farms with Fertilizer.
This I guess is much harder to code though :)

@manek

Hi manek, i couldnt do that for the reason that it would make this mod incompatible with the vanilla game. If you dislike the effect of this mod combined with petra, id suggest using another separate mod that change Petra's Yield. Making a mod like this would be fairly easy, are you into modding yourself?
manekk 12 Apr, 2015 @ 2:57pm
Hi BlouBlou

I am using this mod in the multiplayer games, as it ensures a much higher level of fairness, no matter what your starting location is. It really makes a big difference and stops "you had luck" discussions. The only problem I have is ridiculously overpowered Petra, that provides you with a super city in the middle of the desert with insane yields (not even mentioning kashbah combo). It's just not fair and logical, that the best city possible in the game is a desert city. Do you think you could include in this mod a change to Petra, so that it only provides the desert tiles with +1 production (and is slightly cheaper to build)?

@ElhoneyBadger

Its the classic cache issue described in the troubleshoting section. Follow the step there
ElHoneyBadger 7 Feb, 2015 @ 2:15pm
I'm getting pissed off the mods aren't downloading for me, I close the game and start it from steam and nothing shows up when i go back into the mod section
Baleur 22 Dec, 2014 @ 10:12am
Brilliant. It was ridiculous in vanilla how snow hills didnt even provide production. I mean, what are we drilling oil in the arctic and mining coal in siberia for? Thats right, production!
Furthermore i might even argue that +1 food on snow plains and deserts are realistic as well, as even greenland and the depths of the harshest deserts have minor settlements and villages that still manage to at least survive.
Bullwinkle 29 Jun, 2014 @ 6:19pm
What a wonderful idea! This should reduce the amount of re-rolling I do when starting a new game. I am so tired of "No, this site won't work: re-roll... no, not here either: re-roll..."
ricard_joel 22 Apr, 2014 @ 8:21pm
can you build a mod to climb mountain peaks? or even settle on?
capperz412 12 Apr, 2014 @ 4:01pm
It combines the effects, so deserts have +1 food and +1 production, same as plains. Hmmm...
capperz412 26 Mar, 2014 @ 12:56pm
Thanks, I'll try it out :)
BlouBlou  [author] 26 Mar, 2014 @ 10:47am
@capper

Thx for your interest in that mod :)

about your question, i cant assure you that its compatible, it may overwrite it, it may make both mod uneffective or it may even stax the food and the production for desert wich would be a little OP.

Youll have to test both mod togheter to verify.

Regards
capperz412 26 Mar, 2014 @ 10:29am
Sounds good, especially the improvements for snow/tundra, but I'd rather the desert tiles were +1 production instead. I already have a mod that just makes desert tiles have +1 production, is there any chance that that mod will work with this?
BlouBlou  [author] 1 Feb, 2014 @ 8:11am
@tauer

Im glad you think so =) , i agree too, now you can even play ice/snow map and make it more enjoyable.

Thx for your comment!
Hesh'la Oms 31 Jan, 2014 @ 11:53pm
Because of this mod, I find any game without mods intertollerable. It makes more of the map useful.

Thx a lot =)

Merkwürdigliebe 10 Nov, 2013 @ 10:18pm
Could you make a mod that stops farms from being built on desserts? It allways makes me mad seing the great sahara (this is on a earth/europe map) covered in farms with no fertile soil anywhere.
crazygreggy 28 Oct, 2013 @ 4:06pm
very nice!
treelife 9 Oct, 2013 @ 3:53pm
Hey, :) , I have a Mac and since installing via steam workshop doesn't like working for me (trust me I have tried everything), I was wondering is there any way I could get the .civ5mod file or the .7z file of the mod? So that I can manually add the mod to my game files, :)

Please note, that I know mods are not guaranteed to work on Macs and I promise won't come whining to you if it doesn't work. :)

you have made some of the best mods I have seen!

Many thanks for confirming =^.^=
BlouBlou  [author] 14 Aug, 2013 @ 5:52am
@Tramis

You are mistaken, this mod doesnt affect Petra at all, it still give its normal bonus. Tramis please do proper testing before spreading false information on a mod page.

Test the mod alone in a fresh game and you will see it work without problem. Petra give her bonus normally.

You arent rigth about the "Affect saved game" part either, wich is just a tag for modders to force mod dependency. There is no problem with this mod.

@Blazing

So to answer your question, this mod doesnt affect Petra, the wonder give its normal bonus

Regards.
Tramis 14 Aug, 2013 @ 1:56am
tested it and even after deinstalling the mod the terrain yield changes because of the Petra wonder arn't working. With mod and Petra: desert: 1 food, without mod and Petra: 0 food (should be 1 food, 1 production). It seems this mod does affect saved games. Please fix this, BlouBlou. thank you
Tramis 14 Aug, 2013 @ 1:35am
@BlazingBlade: for me it doesn't work with the Petra wonder (yes, it gives the extra trading route but not the terrain yield changes). I'll have to deinstall it because of that.
A Tabby, A Cat 13 Aug, 2013 @ 4:22am
How does this work with the Petra wonder?

@claude

Haha de rien at all, c'est un pleasure =)
SilverHead 25 Jul, 2013 @ 5:38am
Merci for the explanation. I understand the logic behind your mod.
BlouBlou  [author] 25 Jul, 2013 @ 5:29am
@Claude

All the lowest yield tiles are 1 food tiles, i just bring tiles that give nothing at that same level. There is no tile in the game that only provide 1 prod, so its to stay in the game parameters.

Also, In my opinion i dont see why 1 production is more realistic than 1 food =) . Anyway It does it as all other tiles when it has an hill on it. @ production.
SilverHead 25 Jul, 2013 @ 5:25am
Im currious to know why you chose 1 food for desert tiles. Would it be more realistic that they had 1 production instead?
