for the people that after saving and loading a new saved game the mod STOPS WORKING i have found a way to make it work after saving the game.
What i did is I save the game, but then if i want to play it again and keep the mod working what i do is i START A NEW GAME with the persistent corpses mode ON and then LOAD the REAL SAVED GAME that you want to play. this way the mod will be working in the game you saved earlier.
I have no ideia why this works this way, but it does (at least for me) so give it a try. if i wasnt clear enough please let me know i'll try to explain better.

dont forget :
start new game with persistent bodies mode on ( can be anything as long as the mod persistent corpses is on)
load the game that you actually want to play while inside the game you just started.
enjoy the game

Not sure i select the data mod when i start a new game and it works perfectly fine but when i save and load into that save the bodies start decaying normally again. Does the Data mod turn off when you reload a game or something?

@schizo I have no idea what could cause that issue, sorry. Seems like it could be a bug with AoE2 itself?

so on de i made all the changes into another mod but the corpses stil disappear after 6 minutes. what do i do? your mod works fine but not when i try to make the changes into another mod

I already have a version for DE. The Microsoft mod backend is bugged and doesn't allow me to upload the DE version properly without breaking it. I've already complained on the forums and I'm waiting for a fix.

If you're willing to backup and replace your vanilla DE files with modified versions, here's a link to the mod: https://files.catbox.moe/lc1s99.zip . Exact same "installation" instructions as this one, as the folder structure is the same between HD and DE. Be aware that you won't be able to play multiplayer if you do this.

@Captain If you're hosting a match with the data set, other players will download and see it as well.

@Tazer Yes, in graphics tab in Genie Editor you're able to play around with frame time and duration per frame.

I have a doubt. If I create a multiplayer match with this data set, do every player gets to see the non-decay effect or just me?

Amazing work, btw. I'd like that all players could see it.

Is it possible to manually adjust the decay rate to, say, 4-5 minutes per frame?

@EJdan Use genie editor on .dat file, search for "_D|dead" (without ""). Change resource decay to -1 for units. In graphics tab you can also change frame duration in all the decay animations which is what I've done here. Good luck

BTW, I didn't put anything on moddb, I've only uploaded this here to Steam. Probably someone else's mod doing basically the same thing.

@Yunkster i know its easy to do the mod myself i found your mod on moddb too i might have to just change the numbers myself if you can point me in the right direction then i can make the despawn happen as well as 5 minutes per frame decay, or if you would like to - awesome either way, a lot of people want that in the comments too, i reckon either 30-40 minute despawn and 5 minutes per frame of decay

just to be clear, now there is normal decay and persistent bodies still! would rather use your mod than have the skeletons instantly, but frustrating how for some reason i can't seem to get the game back into vanilla state before proceeding, i even made copies of the original file beforehand

@EJdan My two mods for AoE2 modify the empires2_x1_p1.dat and empires2_x2_p1.dat in steamapps\common\Age2HD\resources\_common\dat

Unsubscribe from the mods, and delete those two files in AoE2 install location. Then right click your game -> properties -> verify integrity of game data.

i removed the mod (as i love the slow decay BUT i DONT want to have the bodies stay forever) and 1 hour decay is just way too long in my opinion especially if the bodies end up staying forever anyway, now my vanilla game even after reinstallation is stuck with persisting bodies even when i haven't selected "persistent bodies" game data, so im kind of forced to use your mod now so that i dont have a bunch of skeletons everywhere without using walls to delete bodies?, please help me bro lol.

does this only work when your playing as a dlc civ? Because the decription says i just needed the dlc, in my last game i played as the Byzantines while allied with the Italians, yet the mod didnt work then, but it did when I played as the Italians?

@SpheredDig71, I don't use the mod, but as far as I know, Kings/Conquerors campaigns don't support Data mods; I think you can still play Forgotten/African/Rajas campaigns though.

Five minutes or maybe even two-and-a-half per frame would be great. I'll play a whole hour and a half long game and my sheep are still all bloody from the start. I wanna see them bones! Love this mod though, carnage everywhere.

Can you make a 5 min decay for each frame? I think that would be perfect. Not too much clutter and a game doesn't have to take forever to see rotting.

@Mazzini, there's a folder where Steam Workshop items are downloaded for Age of Empires 2. You need to go to that folder, take the files from this mod - Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\221380\842804516 - and put it into your Age of Empires 2 installation folder.

I'm sorry to bother you for this again, but is it possible for a no decay corpses stay version? I just want the field to be littered with fresh corpses to make it look like it's a recent fight. I know that it's going to be very load intensive but I wish you'd still at least take it into consideration. Thanks again for an awesome mod

@Pimpin I updated the mod to use the 5.5 patch, before the update you would've been playing without the balance changes to Magyars and others. I also updated to description to show how to use this mod for campaigns
