Hello. When i try to give physical resist or ward save to some unit (like for example lizardmen blessed unit) my mod crash. Is there a specific table i need to tweek as well as land_unit ?

Hello!

I'm just curious, I've read your guide and Caligula's and I was wonderding if it is possible to edit a piece of armor? Say I'd want to remove the spikes on the shoulder plate of a Chaos Warrior?

Could I also mix armor pieces from different units? For example; Chaos Warrior Legs to Arch Lector top. I assume there would be need to resize the body parts, if that's possible.

@Singemeister, no for doing that it is better to edit the mod itself. You can still use the tutorial to find out what the tables do.

@The general, I'm not sure what tables you use for lords. Your best bet for that is to download a mod that does that and then try to figure out how it works by looking at it. I would advise you to go through this tutorial first even if you aren't planning on making units, it will teach you the basics of modding and will familiarise you with PFM.

But how do I use the pack manager from the previous link? I put it in a folder, but now it's just a whole bunch of stuff. I don't know where to start.

5 is the version for Warhammer 2.

You can read up on everything on total war center. 5 doesn't have it's own thread, they talk about it in the later pages.

Also you'll notice that the guy running the thread and the guy who owns the download on sourceforge is daniu. If you're computer explodes because of a virus you can blame him :)

The assembly kit works but it is ten times harder to make stuff and it takes ten times longer. Trust me, PFM is the way to go.

Why doesn't the assembly kit not work? Because what I wanted to do is fairly simple, at least with the mods I want to make.

And I need the one for Warhammer 2.

For that you will need Pack File Manager 5 (PFM 5.0). That's all you will need. Don't use the assembly kit it's not any use.

You can get pack file manager from the link that is linked in the tutorial. It's the same link that every modder uses to get it so don't be concered about security.

Once you have PFM it's easy to make the changes you want. You can add me as a friend here on steam and I can help you if you have any trouble.

Dude, how and what do I need to possibly download to properly mod Warhammer 2? And can I just do it with the Assembly Kit?

You see, I'm ever so slightly wary of just downloading anything willy nilly off the internet.

Because I just want to mainly two mods.

1. A varied numbers mod that changes unit numbers and change stats a little.
2. A mod that changes a few of the battles skills for the Elves, Dwarves, and Lizardmen that buff their troops. Ones like Grimnir's Heirs and such.

I just want to change their final bonus from 8 back to 12 like in Warhammer 1.

@spyritwind, I actually managed to find a solution, or at least somehow managed to waffle my way through that now saving works.

1) I found out on the forums that PFM is really finicky when you rename the tables. You have to DELETE THE WHOLE NAME and rewrite it completely. When I did this then saved, it works and the new renamed table stays! Copy+Pasting the table name also seems to work.

2) I had a second PFM window open at the time, looking at the vanilla data.pack. Thinking it could be a 'access' issue, I also closed all windows before trying again. Might have nothing to do with the saves working, and right now I havem ulti-PFM windows open with no issues.

Hope that helps man! I finally managed to get the title card into the units in-game!

@Baihu ... exact same thing happens to me. I've finally given up for the time being because I've tried so many times and the tables keep vanishing as though they were deleted. I even subbed to a very small simular mod to the one I wanted to do, altered one mod table, saved and poof it's gone :( Quite depressing.

Hi Sebidee, I'm trying to follow your tutorial, but everytime I get to the part with renaming the variant table and saving, the table always disappears! I have tried this multiple times, the variant table always disappears the moment I save the mod file (and I am renaming it to my own custom pack).

I'm really at a loss here for why this is happening. I have checked the forums but noone mentions the same problem.

Do you know why this is happening and could you let me know? I stuck right at the first part of the tutorial because of this...

Having a weird issue where, despite all other entries being correct to the specifications of the tutorial, the land unit key in main units table is stuck as gorebeast chariot and will not accept any other value I try to enter. Any ideas?

Update 3 (lol): Ok so I got it working. And you're probably wondering, well then why not delete all these posts instead of just saying so since you hadn't seen them yet? Well the way I got it working was different than the tutorial, and I thought maybe you might want to put it in the bug section with the fix. What I did was I extracted the icons I wanted to use, then edited them in GIMP. Then to put my new one back, I right clicked on units, and added a whole directory I had. When I exported icons initially it created the icon folder, then I added the icon directory and deleted all the entries except mine. It was pretty clunky, but it worked. Just wanted to give you a heads up to a workaround to my problem in case it happens to anyone else and they ask you or if you want to update the bugs section with the workaround

Update 2: Found where it's extracted to, redid the unit card, followed your directions about right clicking and inserting from file, and I still have the same problem.

As an update, I think the problem is related to an improper extraction of the original icon. But I can't figure out where PFM is extracting my data to, and I don't know how to find it. I simply opened the image with gimp (via open external) rather than export, because I can't find where the exported files are going. Do you know how I can find where they're going, or change the extract location?

Hey man, I love your mod tutorial. I'm very close to finishing my unit (armored marauder berserkers for norsca), but I'm stuck on the unit card section. I've got my unit card saved as a .png on my desktop, and when I right click on your template (under ui>units>icons) and click add>file then add my file, it doesn't go into the same section as your template, instead it just drops right under the parent file. My mod is called armored berserkers, and it drops the .png right there under the main parent. I can't get it into the correct section. It looks like this:
-armoredmarauderberserkers.pack
-nor_armored_marauder_berserkers.png (the icon I made)
+db
+text
+ui
+varientmeshes

If that makes sense. Do you know what could be causing it to continually go to the wrong place?

If they have the same prefix then that means they are overwriting each other and that will cause problems, make sure they have different ones.

Hey Sebidee, I am doing two more unit expansions right now, one for the empire and one for bretonnia, however it seems they wont load when used together. Individually, they do. I have checked and all the values and naming conventions are unique and shouldn't be overwriting each other. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

hey man, I feel really bad about this, I don't wanna be a pest running for help every time, but I've really come to a point where I don't know what to try out anymore, everything seems in place. There are a couple of tables you will need and they have unit_attributes in the name. Try looking at that mod and seeing what tables he uses.

Professor Sebidee, thank you for the great tutorial! I started straight out with a savage orcs overhaul, using Mixus norsca overhaul to see how it works. Ive noticed that some unit attributes in the land units table have key names in Mixus mod that dont necessarily exist in vanilla, which I understand gives those units a unique attribute mix. Id like to do the same, however I cannot seem to find the table where those attribute keys are being defined. Same for weapons, where Id also like to create some unique ones. Ive looked through the db tables, either I was blind or theyre somewhere else. Could you point me to the direction where I need to go please?

When you get that error it means you made a small mistake in the tables somwhere, most likely a spelling mistake or having a value in the wrong place.

Hi sebidee, using your template i notice that in the unit_description_short_text_loc, in the tag field there is a missing "_text" after "texts" :) don't know if i just imagine that but just adding the "_text" doesn't seems to work (i had to copy the tag from another mod and then replace).

Not a big deal actually, just want to point this out and thank you again for your work, thanks to you a total war fan dream came true :)

Are you sure you are clicking on the template? Sounds like you are clicking on the png, it is named the same. In any case you use PFM to open it. Please read the tutorial.
