SE's autopilot is horrendously broken, at least for me. So I don't really have any motivation for it unless I want to adopt someone else automated guidance program.

I was working on it for a bit then I got rolled-back due to data loss. Also this project is not high on my list. Someday, but dont hold your breath

@Eddy Smurphy, that feature of the program block is no longer available due to the new way that intergrid comms work. I do draw your attention to the fact that this version of the script doesnt work and is severely outdated.

I mean, by sensor i mainly mean turrets. Which if i recal correctly your script did allow. Turrets are the main way i can get a script to "find" targets outisde of manual lidar designation. In vanilla these are restricted to 800m, which is too short to give most missiles the room to be launched, orient and intercept a target. If i could, lets say, double that range by using a bunch of simple drones orbiting at 800m, now interception becomes a lot easier

Once the initial release is there, automated sensor based combat is actually in order, if possible of course. I remember the old days of having the Subordinates be able to fly around their targets and return to formation.

That is good timing kinesi. Right as i was looking for a way to extend my "sensor" range for my custom weapons and figuring out that your formation script looked like the perfect fit

Fun news actually. Yesterday I was hard at work all day learning IGC. So look forward to progress! I have gotten communication to work, and I'm making the final touches on basic communication. I have plans for adding docking, swarm intelligence, patrolling, and of course, formations.

Just keep in mind, while you have the option to send data through a string, you can use other data types as well. Just make sure it's not any classes or structs declared from within your script. But, you can use other classes from outside the script like the MyTuple class.

@overwerk The new IntergridCommunicationSystem is what's used now. Its a much more practical way to transfer information between grids but unfortunately its beyond my capabilities currently.

@Fierro , thats a very useful thread, and in fact I have an unreleased script for swarm AI that uses cameras for using fixed weapons. I haven't released it because its usefulness is limited by not being immediately usable in a survival game.

The original broadcasting functions in antennae have been removed in recent updates to SE. This script will not longer function to any extent.
