This mansage is exclusively for ash, as author of the map. I try to adapt the map to the real railway stops. To do this, you have to delete some cities and add others. I also deleted the industries, because after putting all the cities, it will be easier to locate the industries. However, after suppressing industries and adding a couple of cities I did a test and it throws me an error message that, I imagine, has to do with the syntax when suppressing industries. I copy the error message text. If you read it, I would appreciate an answer. Greetings.

Yeah the Aberdeen Oil is off shore and needs to be fixed. Also if possible adding the waterway in Northern Wales by Holyhead, and possibly removing or making smaller Newport on the Isle of Wright. Otherwise a very good map and one I shall be using, thanks!
Cammy1791 10 Mar, 2019 @ 5:33am
aberdeen oil is under water? is this supposed to be like this and am I missing a mod that allows to build on water?
Bulldog 23 Jan, 2019 @ 11:49am
getting a failure to load. says mapheight is too high and pixels should not exceed 16M. experimntalmapsize is set to true in lua file.

@alien 372
It would help if you told the author what the error is, there should've been [onscreen] a message that gave you the relevant details with regards to your error message.
If you post that with your comment that would be helpful to those concerned.

@DopeyDonkey494, happy people enjoy it. See the customisation tips above for how to remove some towns.
ash  [author] 28 Sep, 2017 @ 4:01am
@Staffy50 thanks, and yes there are a lot of towns. Did you see the customisation tips above? You can remove as many towns as you like.
Staffy50 27 Sep, 2017 @ 7:11am
Great map, but theres a few too many towns too close, and you end up with one huge city.
Galactic_Nerd 26 Sep, 2017 @ 8:36am
Brilliant map. Absolutely great. Maybe a couple less town in the midlands would be preferable but great!

@andy.conway

Strange, nothing in this map changes the way industries work. This must be a change in the recent game update.

I've recently started a new game on another map and the farms are producing livestock no problems without any grain delivery. As far as I'm aware farms don't require any input to produce livestock, just make sure you have enough demand at the cities you eventually deliver the food to. I didn't realise milk was a thing, is that now in the base game or from a mod?
andy.conway 2 Aug, 2017 @ 11:37am
Hi Ash, Great map but have you seen my question re farms please ? You seem to have the new farm system but unless I am misunderstanding how it works , shoudl there be grain farms to send grain to the livestock farms which now require grain ? Similarly shoudl there be dary farms to send cows to to produce the milk ? Unless I am missing something ? Really enjoying your map otherwise. I play no cash and have built the passenger services and now starting the industries but not sure how to use the new farms. Thanks Andy

Hello Can anyone help re my question below re Farms please ?
andy.conway 22 Jul, 2017 @ 1:34pm
Hello, Can anyone help with a question I have ? How do farms work. I have noticed farms have changed on this and quite a few other maps and I do not know how to make these new farms work. On original game maps farms produced grain and livestock which you sent to food processing factory which then sent food to cities. On this and many other mod maps the farm now produces only livestock and REQUIRES grain to feed them but where do you get the grain from as no Grain farms anymore. Also MIlk is required along with livestock at Food processing plant but you need dairy to convert livestock into milk ?? and where are they ? I think I may have missed something along the way but now cannot use the farms on these new maps as do not know how to use them. Great map by the way. Thanks.

@AlwaysRM

[quote] Why is the oil of Aberdeen UNDERWATER????
How can i ever get that oil?
It's not in range for an truck stop :/ (1850) [/quote]

Because you have to use a tanker to get it. It basically works the same way as a truck stop [you add a route from a harbour to the rig in question] You'll also need to add a shipyard to get the tanker required for the route.
It's also how it works in the scenario too, take a look at the American campaign The Great Depression, if I recall correctly you'll see it there.

Righty oh. Here goes.
Have a text editor. Opened settings. Changed experimental map from false to true.
Opened game still get height map too big pixels can't exceed 16m.
Unsubscribe,subscribed twice changed setting to true. Still the same.
That is the problem,& im getting fed up with it.
So...Lenovo y700 intel i7 thingy in it,lots of good bits in laptop I was told.
The bit with removing towns or industries is that necessary ? As if so I quit.
My son is 10 & im the wrong side of 40. I have little knowledge in gaming,though could do brilliant poke codes in machine code for jet set willy in the early 80's.
Cheers for any other suggestions or I'll tell my boy it's his 1st world problem & to start playing Minecraft again.

ash  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 9:09am
@Maclaren.lloyd.turner

1. Find the "settings.lua" file and ensure it contains "experimentalMapSizes = true" and save and close the file.
2. Find the "map.lua" file for my map and carefully remove the towns or industries you don't want and save and close the file.

Once again the details are in the description above. If you can't find these files, try downloading the "everything" search program and simply search for the folder and/or file names, as described in the description.

If you're struggling with this, why not get your son to read the information here and try doing it? It's amazing what kids can learn if you give them a chance.

By the way I also have a real life, a job and mortgage to pay off. That's why I don't have the time to answer every question and repeat what I've aready explained.
wabbithunta 27 May, 2017 @ 7:30am
@Maclaren.lloyd.turner
What exactly are you trying to do? Please explain, if you have the time, as I've no idea what you mean by setting the map size to true.

Not sure about it but if you're on about using the map editor to resize the map for editing then refer to my comments for GJST1976 with regards to how to use it, as this might be what you need?
MacLondonGamer 26 May, 2017 @ 1:55pm
Thank you wabbithunta. Got that detail now. Can't find anything in that folder to set the map size to true though.
Sadly ash,as I said, this isn't for me I'm trying to sort this for my son. I have areal life and putting effort into playing computer games isn't high on the agenda,I have to work to pay off a mortgage.
Cheers mr w hunter,you're a gent.
wabbithunta 26 May, 2017 @ 8:16am
For this map look in this location for the Transport Fever folder (446800)

Programme Files> Steam> Steamapps> Workshop> content> 446800> 906803457> maps> uk_penzance_to_thurso

Oen that and lo and behold you'll find the heightmap and a text file listed as map
ash  [author] 26 May, 2017 @ 6:08am
@Maclaren.lloyd.turner Sorry, mate you're going to have to put in a bit more effort than that. Read the notes and comments here and then ask specific questions if you are still confused. Alternatively just wait for Urban Games to possibly release an official map editor.

If you simply can't find the map.lua file in the "uk_penzance_to_thurso" folder, try downloading the "Everything" from www.voidtools.com . I use it and highly recommend it.
MacLondonGamer 25 May, 2017 @ 11:36am
Hi Ash, nope I have no idea what you're asking. Can't find maps & the rest is just words to me.
Need a step by step guide please..i.e. From the windows home screen onwards.... cheers chap
ash  [author] 21 May, 2017 @ 1:15am
@GJST1976 Good to hear, not sure why industries are coming back, they don't when I edit the file. I do know if you delete all industries, the game will generate random industries. Urban Games really should add a simple map editor so we don't have to mess around with lua files like this.
gavt1976 21 May, 2017 @ 1:07am
Yeah it is working fine now @Ash, but everytime i make changes to the map and take out the Industry, the industry comes back again, but it is still a good map. :)
ash  [author] 21 May, 2017 @ 1:03am
@wabbithunta Just read your responses re removing towns and industries, thanks for that. It's a shame UG don't provide a basic editor for all the non-technical people out there. Hopefully in the next update. The map viewr is a really useful tool, butonly if you can first find and edit the map.lua.
ash  [author] 21 May, 2017 @ 12:57am
@GJST1976 @Maclaren.lloyd.turner I explain that above under Customisation tips. Are there any specific problems you are having? On Windows, Notepad will let you open the file, remove towns and then save it.
wabbithunta 20 May, 2017 @ 9:42am
Glad to hear it is ok now.
Also turn off any background progs that are running as well, assuming that they're impacting the game, and are not needed at the time. Memory is important, the more you have free the better this game should run, as well as having a decent graphics card and CPU too. This game can "chug" in the later stages, when the map starts to "fill up". ;-)
gavt1976 20 May, 2017 @ 7:18am
I have done what you have said now and it does work a lot better with only a few towns on it and it runs a lot faster, so thank you again @wabbithunta :)
wabbithunta 20 May, 2017 @ 5:55am
As I said earlier in previous post.

Open the map.lua file (use the gear cog) on the toolbar at top of screen, you should see a list. Find and delete the town(s) you don't want, from the list in the text file that opened.
I'd leave the industries if I were you as you're sure to need them in game more so than the towns you want to delete.

Use the co-ords BEFORE the name of the town(s) you want to delete.

This the location for London and to delete it remove the following (remove the brackets as well)
{pos = { 4168.517232, -11000.48 }, name = _("London"), sizeFactor = 1.5}

After you've deleted the town(s), save the lua file and the map will reload and you should see that what you've deleted will no longer be there.

gavt1976 20 May, 2017 @ 4:49am
@wabbithunta I have open that program ie Map viewer and i have made the map full screen, so what do i do next, because how do you delete the towns and Indsury and which ones to remove. And can i remove all the indsury as well, because the map could load a lot quicker, if you know what i mean.
wabbithunta 20 May, 2017 @ 1:26am
Don't forget to make a copy of the file and save it, BEFORE you edit it, so you'll still have the original settings for the map.
gavt1976 19 May, 2017 @ 5:46pm
So if i open the map viewer and run it and do what you say, then it would work for me @wabbithunta:steamhappy:
wabbithunta 19 May, 2017 @ 4:52pm
[This follows on to the comment below]

I deleted London as a test and used the co-ords BEFORE the town name
{pos = { 4168.517232, -11000.48 }, name = _("London"), sizeFactor = 1.5},
I did this and saved the file and the map reloaded.
London was deleted!

Therefore it should follow that you can delete any number of towns to reduce the amount, as no doubt the further you go into the game the more info there will be and it will, no doubt be chugging after the 1950's(?) if you start at the turn of the century (dependent on your PC).

Hope this helps you out.
wabbithunta 19 May, 2017 @ 4:51pm
@GJST1976

I deleted my previous comments, to remove any possible chance of confusion...

Download the map viewer and run it.
https://www.transportfever.net/filebase/index.php/Entry/2404-TF-Map-Viewer/

Unzip and run the prog.

After running the prog, open the map folder (penzance to thurso) and run it full screen (fit the map to the window (two diaganonal arrows in the toolbar at the top of the map viewer screen, to enable you to see all the locations on the map), then open the map.lua file (gear cog) on toolbar at top of screen, and find and delete the town(s) required from the file, it'll open as a text file, use the search box to help find the town(s) you want to remove and then delete them.

gavt1976 19 May, 2017 @ 2:31pm
I have done that @wabbithunta but which parts do you delete, because from what part do you start with it and end with.
wabbithunta 19 May, 2017 @ 1:32pm
@GJST1976
It's in the above information [Customisation Tips]

To remove towns/industries (or add more) from the map[/b] , find the folder: "uk_penzance_to_thurso" This will be somewhere under "SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content" and open the "map.lua" file in a text editor.

Then carefully remove lines under the towns and/or industries section. Save the file and start a new free game using this map.
gavt1976 19 May, 2017 @ 12:10pm
Ash

Can you please tell me on here how you remove the towns from this map, because i would like to take some towns out of the map and i just wanted to know how to do it, can you send me a PM please mate. :)
MacLondonGamer 13 May, 2017 @ 1:09am
Sorrry i'm a bit new to this gaming lark .How do i open a test editor to change the map settings? A step by step idiot guide would be great......I'm trying to do it for my son you see!
wik44 5 May, 2017 @ 6:19am
Wouw ! Five doubts for this great map. Many, many thanks for - I think - very much work. Driving inside the cars and trains is like a real movie known as "Travalling through Great Britain". This map is the garanty of pleasure more than 100 hours. And thanks to my Power-PC - No problems at all ! :steammocking:
The Yorkshire Shadow 3 May, 2017 @ 8:09am
i know, and its not there
ash  [author] 3 May, 2017 @ 2:38am
@Shadow of game Steam user id is a long number eg: 154723438, not your login name. On my pc it's the only folder at that location.
The Yorkshire Shadow 1 May, 2017 @ 1:54am
i can't find my steam user id in that place, are you sure its not somwere else?
wabbithunta 22 Apr, 2017 @ 11:25pm
They did it in the European campaign, but it was probably coded(?) as a port for that purpose, or even made that way for the campaign.
Is it possible for that to be done here, I doubt it, as that would then mean that this map would need to be a "scenario" and coded as such, rather than being just a map.
Snow 22 Apr, 2017 @ 2:24pm
I know Aberdeen is the Oil capital of Scotland as i sorta stay close by, and the oil is meant ot be in the North sea, and well it is, on your map. I dont know if possible to connect anything to that oil industry there as its submerged. ;)

Map looks like could be god fun to play, but may need to looking toto moving that oil industry to being on land :)
