It's easy to make a melee hunting weapon.
How?
Let's check the drop pools of some monsters:
{ "bow" : "paratailHunting" }
So:
1.
a. Modify damage kind for a melee weapon:
"damageSourceKind" : "bow"
it's the easiest way. But damage kind will affect the sound effect and animation.
2.
a. Add a new damage kind, such as "huntingsword" (copy and rename)
b. Modify damage kind for a melee weapon:
"damageSourceKind" : "huntingsword"
c. Add a item to the drop pools of a monster:
"huntingsword" : "paratailHunting"
Now, it's a hunting weapon.
Hope this helps.
They removed the weapon when Starbound came out, but they left fractions of the Hunting Knife's appearence as parts for randomly generated melee weapons. Specifically for the Shortswords/Daggers.
I always hoped somone could remake it, but with the code is gone than all hope of remaking it from vanilla assests is hopeless, and it would require a highly skilled modder with incredible programming abilities to do it.
I still appreciate your mod though, it makes me happy it exists.
comment chain... thing?
words fail me.
Just as an aside, I'll also throw in my vote for Starbound being a game
