If the Soviet Union still existed they wouldn't have any environmental regulations and you know it. Fossil fuel emissions are not endemic to capitalism, they are a result of industrialization. There is no reason to believe that any modern communist nation would dispense with fossil fuels in favour of cleaner energy, or if that's even possible, communist or not.

Just settle down, I don't know why you're so eager to dismiss genocide, nobody even mentioned it. I can guarantee you it doesn't help any claims of compassion you might make on your part for the downtrodden and oppressed. :cfacepalm:

That is a fair point. But knowledge of climate change during the 1980's was practically non-existant.
Nowadays, the main driving force for the use of fossil fuels are corporations. Which can only exist under a free-market economy. If the Soviet Union still existed and ignored the science behind climate change, then perhaps your argument would have more value. The fact of the matter is, infinite growth cannot be achieved on a planet with finite resources. You can say what you will about the "10 gorillion" people who "died under Communism." But unless we start moving away from unregulated Capitalism at the very least, our future as a species is doomed.

The former Soviet Union was the world's second largest producer of harmful emissions. Total emissions in the USSR in 1988 were about 79% of the US total. Considering that the Soviet GNP was only some 54% of that of the USA, this means that the Soviet Union generated 1.5 times more pollution than the USA per unit of GNP.
