Create the Animal King
This is a challenge for all level makers that used the hammer. Do you think it would be possible to make a level where you have an epic battle of the ages against the Animal King Turret? I know it only appeared in videos in Portal 2, but I did see one user create a purple turret. So I was wondering if this was possible, and if anyone was up to the challenge.

Well there was a model for the Animal King Turret released a loooooong time ago. It can be found here: http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=481
I don't know about actually making it work though.

The purple turret most likely wasn't a new model, just a prop_dynamic with the color set to purple.

@RubyCarbuncle ≠SG-1≠ I wouldn't know about making it work, but maybe someone who looks here will. I didn't think making a purple turret would be to hard though, I just wish I knew how to use the hammer.

Hammer isn't that difficult to understand. Once you've got the basics down, like creating brushes (walls and floors) and making entities (props, test elements, instances and indicators) it becomes really simple to use. It takes longer to make a level but the overall quality of the Hammer made levels are far greater than PeTI made levels, but nly if done correctly.

"PeTI" = "Perpetual Testing Inititive" Also known as the in-game editor.
Hammer can be downloaded in the tools tab in Steam. You'll see it with the name "Portal 2 Authoring Tools - Beta"

I would, if I knew how to use the more advanced options Hammer has to offer. I do believe it's possible, however I'm not exactly all that great with this kind of thing. The test chambers I make are commonly very simple because my creativity level has gone down recently. I'm sure if you poked around enough though someone who is a complete pro at this kind of thing would be able to help you.

Also a tip for Hammer: save your maps a lot. Hammer tends to crash quite often for me I'm not too sure about other people though.

The Animal King turret only appears in the trailer, elevator animations, and during the end game cinematic, so the NPC/model would have to be designed from scratch. Just an enlarged turret with custom paint-job (skin). But I can't really imagine what the AK would be like to fight. And whether he would deem the player worth fighting.

I think it's possible for a map, too, as you can implement custom... well, everything! Well, I can't, I wouldn't know the first things about modeling or NPC's, but the concept should be possible. Should be carefully considered, though. I for one won't partake in this, I have plenty mapping plans and rough concepts already, but I hope others will.

Fun fact: FGEMod for the editor adds an Animal King that shoots bombs.
