Want FIRE!? SMOKE!?! LIGHTNING?!?!!? You need Action Markers!
Action markers are used in game to display looped events, visual events such as fire, smoke, lightning or water fountains, or sounds such as guns, screams, explosions etc etc basically, all the good stuff

Some simple steps:

1 - in worldbuilder, click the 'red flag' on the top toolbar, two across from 'object placement'.

2 - In the panel on the far right, find Marker mode at the top, then select 'action marker'

3 - now, right click anywhere in your map to place a marker

4 - select the marker, then click 'edit action' in the right hand panel.

5 - next to 'new command', click the dots and find 'fx_orphan' in the drop down menu

6 - next to fx click the . . . . . dots

7 - now go: fx_particlesystems > fx_fires > fx_fire_wide

8 - click 'apply changes'

et voila!!!

you can apply the usual changes to the action marker If you select it and press R once then use the green/blue/red controls.

I had a play earlier today and used some of the effects on my waterfalls in this map....
