It has simliar functions to the laser, but it only does freeze them.
There are some ideas for sections only while freezed.

While freezed you can still control the direction when you hit a slope in a 45° angle.

But you still need some reaction to move into the right direction.
The real cool think about is, that you don't loose your velocity while freezed.
