Full civ style mods (ships/bases/buildings)?
I haven't played in a year or so. Left frustrated after developers never fulfilled all the promises they made during early access.

One thing I was waiting for forever was a workshop interface to set custom ship/base designs for AI players. (A whole ship "set" rather than just individual ships that the player has to choose manually) So that I could feasibly set up a game vs Klingons with Klingon ships, for example.

I know this has been "possible" in the past, but was never well supported in the steam workshop. I don't want to spend all day setting up a game or go download stuff from third parties.

I'm curious if this ever got done. Might make it worth it to play again/buy more dlc.

No. They did say at one point that they were going to make it so you could set up a custom ship set in game without having to mod it in and it would be part of the expansion. Though I can't remember what, or if, they said anything about how it would work with the workshop.

We are still waiting for an official announcement on the next expansion as to what will be and therefore what isn't going to be included. Best thing is to wait for that to happen and see if it is something that is on the horizon or not.

If you look in to Collections section of Steam Workshop there are in fact race and shipset you can subscribe to download all at once. The next expansion, Crusade, from my understanding will allow you to make custom races and ship sets that it will be able to use its custom ship set when played as AI opponent

Thanks. Yea I have downloaded the ship sets, just have never been able to get the AI to use them.

Hopefully Crusade does finally include that. I'm still just pissed because I got the game (for full price) in beta and this was promised then. Its like 3? years later and on fire sale. I feel like they put this off so that they could sell more texture and race DLC.

All the star wars and star trek ships that people have made are just awesome -- mod community is impressive ... but if I can't actually play against the borg what is the point? Changing the title and picture of the race I'm playing against is just not enough.

What your asking is coming with Crusades expansion (Civilization Builder) out at some point this Spring. Other than that you may want to check out the SD Forums for Races with Shipsets since xml modding is the only way to do this atm.
