Questions on Modding for TL2

Here's a few general-purpose questions I got, now that I'm trying to give this game a fair shake after a long time of inactivity from it.

1. Does modding screw with your vanilla assets, characters, etc. in general? Is it like, say, Terraria and TModLoader where the modded games are seperate from the vanilla games, or will my modding affect those preexisting characters?

2. Is the modding scene slightly over the original Torchlight scene where it was basically reskinned vanilla classes and rebalances? Minus that one Warjack class that never got finished, that was basically most my memory of the previous Torchight modding scene, so was curious if people did stuff like new dungeons and such now we have a bit more of a world map feel to the world.

3. Obvious question here: What's a few good mods to try out the game modded for the first time? I never really got far with any of my four characters (think the highest was a level 22?) so curious about what may be out there and what may be messed with.

1: Thankfully no,

mods go into a seperate folder which contains the mod character save files.

Character SVB save files "from the non-modded game" can be manually copied over to the mod save folder without messing with the original files.

2: Yes, there are several modders that have added dungeons and various things.

"Doudley" has done alot of work to improve older mods and add useful features.

"Darkthan" has the best skill at making classes that feel different from the originals.
