VNSU - Ia Drang Valley (WIP)
Ia Drang Valley from 1965: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ia_Drang

This is a map i have been working on since i joined the closed beta back in March, i was not able to work on it for a while in April, as the editor had some issues, but i have been continuing my work since the game officially released. As a fan of the Ia Drang Valley map from Battlefield Project Reality, i decided to create a RS2 map inspired by it, as i noticed from people in the community that this is a highly requested map!

BE AWARE, BECAUSE OF LIGHTING ISSUES THE SCREENSHOT QUALITY IS NOT PRESENTABLE OF THE FINISHED WORK! SCREENSHOTS ARE ALSO TAKING IN PEI (Play In Editor) WHERE THE LIGHTING ALWAYS LOOKS POOR. THE MAP IS ALSO NOT ALPHA/BETA RELEASE READY!

I did not want to make a helicopter base somewhere far off in the map, as when there are no more choppers, you will get people waiting, so i created a old police base that is in use and from here people who miss the choppers taking off, can still walk towards the objectives.

Be aware (again) that the actual battle was mostly thick fields covered with foliage, mostly Elephant grass and some jungles. So i am taking some liberty in creating this map and adding some fictive places to get some variety going on on the map. (See down below on what objectives will be added)

Screenies:

More map info:

Mode: Supremacy (maybe create a Territory after its done)
Sides: NVA vs US Army
NVA side will receive just one RPG class.
Air Support:
No Loach as they came into service in 1966, the Ia Drang Valley battle took place in 1965. This means also no AH-1 Cobra as those first saw action back in 1968. Don't worry as there will a long time out on SAM's.

Other objectives will be the dried out river creek hat was essential to the battle, another objective will be a tiny hill that is the NVA's main ammo supply dump. Another objective is a old abandoned ruined villa deep in the jungle (the D house from Hue City) and another one will be a trenched area that looks similar to Hill but with more foliage.

this looks very high quality, i like it already. love that dense foliage, those jungles. realistic environments are so rare in custom maps. that's why when bridge of druzinha hit for ro2, everyone went crazy and played it 24/7, finally a map made with quality and a mind for realism. good luck.

Nice! It is great that somebody is making a map of this battle-as it was one of the most important ones of the Vietnam War! Everything looks really nice!

Love it!

Oh-hey, to the map creator: you should probably make the map "territories" to start out with...THEN maybe make a supremacy version. The real battle of Ia Drang was about taking territory(which was then abandoned) instead of search and destroy type operations. Therefore-if you have a mind towards Historical accuracy-territory would be more appropriate.
I am learning RS2 SDK currently and I had the same idea about the map. My goal was to put 1 or 2 US squads in area called ,,Cutoff platoon" which they would have to defend with a help of Phantom jet or spooky without start up cooldown, meanwhile rest of the US team would be on their way to help them with Hueys from US base few "miles" away. After 1st cap, spawn points would open for US and the battle shall begin.
Dunno if TE or SU mode is better.
I wanted to get some inspiration from the movie " We were soldiers" and PR vietnam map on map design, well you were faster ;) GL with development

Hello Good sir. I see you are making a La Drang map. As a Map maker myself I am curious about recreating Project Reality Vietnam maps. They are the perfect size for this style of Gameplay and the maps are as accurate as you expect from devoted Battlefield 2 Modders. Here is a Screen- https://i.ytimg.com/vi/tU_I5F-9tvY/maxresdefault.jpg

Hey-I apologize, but I'm about to be "that guy". The place is not pronounced "La Drang". That's an "I" in the place name, not an "L". The approximate Vietnamese pronunciation would be "YAH DRANG".

Or if you want to "Americanize" it, just say "EYE-UH- DRANG"-with a strong hick accent, of course ;) !

Any tips on keeping the SDK from crashing constantly?

awesome idea.
What is the current situation with this map?
Are you still working on it?
