AWSW mod resources
This is to give you the stuff you need for making mods for the AWSW game. I hope you'll find this resource useful. You can find me on either of the AWSW discord servers if you want to ask any questions. =====Basic requirements===== Simple things needed before you start ~~AWSW game~~ Duh XD ~~Modtools~~ GitHub page[github.com] Installation video(Made by yours truly) Documentation[awsw-modding.github.io] ~~Good editor~~ You can use whatever you're comfortable with but I've had weird errors running Ren'Py code written with notepad++. My preferred choices are Atom Text[atom.io] Sublime Text[www.sublimetext.com] ~~Knowledge of Ren'Py~~ Documentation[www.renpy.org] However a good portion of Ren'Py's documentation is written by users on the lemmasoft forums, worthwhile checking out for help with ren'py. Honestly, Ren'Py isn't that hard to figure out. It's rather simple in-fact. Lemmasoft Forums[lemmasoft.renai.us] =====Other handy resources===== Just a collection of other stuff which might be useful ~~AWSW character catalogue~~ A collection of characters and their expressions (assembled by yours truly)[docs.google.com] ~~Source code~~ Here is a video I made showing you how to get at the source code and assets for AWSW. You'll need the source code for modding, without it you'll be very lost when it comes to the mod tools. ~~Getting started video~~ I made this video as a sort of guide to help you guys make your own mod. In it I show a simple init file for the modloader which you can use to make a simple mod as well as some basics of Ren'Py to get you started. The video is an hour long and I go a bit loopy towards the end of it (it was late and I was fueled by energy drink, what do you expect) ~~Ren'Py SDK~~ I like to use it, I find it handy but you don't need it. Ren'Py 6.99.12[www.renpy.org] =====Backgrounds===== Resources that will work with AWSW (aesthetically) ~~Uncle Mugan~~ (He does awesome stuff) *Total Royalty free Free OELVN Resources[lemmasoft.renai.us] ~~Osumashsi~~ The Royalty is fair enough, use/modify/no need to credit/commercial ok Origional ♥♥♥[www7b.biglobe.ne.jp] Google Translated[translate.google.com] Upscaled versions[drive.google.com] ~~sakura.ne/Sozai~~ Very fair royalty, use/modify/no need to credit/commercial ok Origional ♥♥♥[loo.sakura.ne.jp] Google Translated[translate.google.com] ~~sei.chan~~ Would appreciate being credited LemmaSoft link[lemmasoft.renai.us] =====Music==== Music stuff's ~~Crinkles- Soundtrack in a box~~ A lot of the games music actually comes from the soundtrack in a box series. These songs are NOT free, if you plan to use them in a mod I highly recommend buying the song you want (Don't worry, they are very cheap like $1 a song and $7 an album). Yeah they are good songs. Bandcamp Link[crinklesmusic.bandcamp.com] ~~Mark Sparling~~ Another artist whose music features in the game. I really like their stuff. Unfortunately their website is down at the time of writing but I'll link it anyway should that change. Not entirely sure if ALL their stuff is free to use in projects like this but I do know that the 70 days album is free to use. I can only find 1 working link to their full 70days album and it's in a redit post I'll link to. Website[marksparling.com] Soundcloud[soundcloud.com] 70days Redit 70days opus format[drive.google.com] ~~Other music~~ There are quite a few people making music for games, some are even nice enough to release it for free, just have a Google[www.google.be] =====Sounds Effects===== ~~Freesound~~ Royalty free sound's that you can use to your hearts content. Most have a tenancy to be meh and require a bit of noise reduction but audacity will take care of that. Freesound Link[freesound.org] ~~Free sound effects~~ There's paid stuff and free stuff available there. Just another resource. Link[www.freesoundeffects.com] ~~Other sound effects~~ Just have a Google[www.google.be] search, there's plenty out there. =====Image optimization===== You don't want your images taking up too much space do you? Here are some tools you can use to optimize your image file sizes. ~~Guetzli, (Jpeg)~~ A very good jpg optimization tool. Requires a fairly beefy PC with tons of ram (You'd want about 6GB's available for >1080p files, 4GB's for <1080p files) This is a CMD line tool, write a bat file for multiple for it, save yourself starting it again for every image. GitHub Page[github.com] ~~Riot, (Jpeg)~~ It's free, fast, the size saving can be great if you're not overly concerned about quality. Claims to work with png files but I find it crashes if it's not on win XP. Work fine with Jpeg Website[luci.criosweb.ro] ~~PNGgauntlet, (PNG)~~ It's fairly good, combines 3 popular PNG optimization tools into one with batch processing. Website[pnggauntlet.com] ~~Webp~~ It's supported by Ren'Py to a degree but I recommend avoiding it unless you know what you're doing. No link, it's forever evolving and not even supported by windows natively. =====Audio optimization===== Renpy supports .wav, .mp3 (Please avoid for copyright reasons), .ogg, .opus I recommend using .opus audio format, with the files encoded to 96 bitrate, I find that give's the best quality to size ratio but it's up to you. Here are some audio optimization tools you can use. ~~Switch~~ Only thing I found which isn't cmd line that converts to .opus file format. Scroll down the page and use the download links under "Download Free Audio Converter Software". NCH Website[www.nch.com.au] ~~Freemake Audio Converter~~ It's fairly standard but limited, it doesn't support many file format's (no .opus here) and doesn't let you do much tinkering with bit rate. However it is super simple to use. Just be sure to do the custom installation and uncheck the bloatware. Website[www.freemake.com] =====Other Collections of resource links===== I tried to link you to stuff which was used in AWSW or at least would work with the aesthetic of the game, but here are some other collections of links you might find useful. Steam discussion Cloudnovel forum[cloudnovel.net] And here's this too, it's kinda handy. OpenGameArt[opengameart.org]

I love you for this. Gonna delve into it hoping to make a true romance ending for Adine! I can draw too, so expect it to be as close to the real thing as possible!

You're great for doing this, recently got interested in modding the game as a way of learning Ren'py, many thanks! :)

Hello, I have tried this game and the truth that I love a lot
but being only in English I was thrown back when I could not understand the plot, so I am working on a complete translation into Spanish which is my language.
I already translated Chapter 1 in case

I'd recommend looking at the Official fan translation thread to get more information on doing this as there might have already been some discussion about translating into your language. The translation process is significantly different to mod creation so that should be more useful to you

Why does the people who didn't own the game came to comment random stuff that isn't related to the game?
