Workshop Skin Acceptance
Why is it always the same people who get accepted into the game? Am I missing something here? Some contract I don't know about? I would like to see some actual community skins, and not the same people over and over again.

I am not trying to bash the skin choices, they are a good pick. But they are always the same people. I only want answers, not scorn.

The artists who get their skins accepted often are the people who have created them correctly. But it seems that the devs limit it so that one artist gets max 3 skins in the game per update. In this update, there were many more skins to be added, but things happened, and they were left to wait for another time.

Devs have also said just recently that they were looking to try and add skins from a wider variety of people. It isn't always intentional that the same people get skins accepted; sometimes they'll bookmark skins to consider for later, and realize as they're going through skins for acceptance that many are from the same people.

No offence intended, but creating better skins is the best way to get accepted. If we have users who regularly get their work included with each update, this is simply because they have been doing this for a couple of years now and have become very skilled at it. People who submit something that's simple colour splotches will get passed over for those who create more intricate detailed patterns.

If you have not submitted your skins correctly, we will completely ignore you unless the design is something unbelievably eye-catching it'd be worth tracking you down to fix things. There are plenty of resources out there, from the dev wiki, to discord, to tutorials on the community hub, that people should not be getting this part wrong anymore if they're serious about having their work considered.

We intentionally added older skins submitted from well over a year ago with update 1.9 to give lesser known artists visibility, and had a bunch more we were going to add (including some human items I was sad to see not get in). Last minute changes in priorities unfortunately meant we weren't able to put as many new cosmetics as we'd have liked into this update.

I'll repeat my usual advice about making skins again...

Try to not make them for classes that are over-exposed, we have a billion feathered raptor skins for example, but barely any human skins or pterosaur skins.

Go for naturalistic appearance, things that have the look of body-paint or strange unnatural patterns like lightning rarely look good and often feel out of place.

If there's a seasonal holiday / event coming up, such as christmas, then it's wise to submit some content themed around that in the month leading up to it. Vice versa, don't go submitting a halloween skin in January, since it's possible it will be forgotten by the time October rolls around.
This makes a lot more sense now, I appreciate the feedback. As I said above, I am not upset over the selections, I was just curious. I talked with my friends, and we all came up with theories that helped to settle the dust. There are a few skins in the selections I didn't like at first, but seeing them in game changed my opinion (since workshop images don't do some skins justice).

Again, I am glad to see the reasons why and how to improve in the future.

I don't understand how some skins make it into the game tbh. Like the seagull raptor has no detail whatsoever. Pure 255,255,255 white with a patch of flat gray and neon yellow feet and muzzle.. There's no patterns or variation in the shades of colors.. It just looks really lazy and like it was made in 5 minutes. And the person who made it already has so many skins in the game, a lot of which are of similar quality (A couple are decent).

What's even worse is that there's beautiful and natural skins like Levia Draconia's Sedimentary Raptor and Quicksand Ovi or others that are ignored.. Why.. Is it cause the .upk is wrong? What about the developer comments section??

remember. devs have opinions. just like it is your opinion to like these skins. what you might see as a great masterpiece might be a piece of garbage in devs eyes and vice versa.

I believe the devs also want people who make skins and people say they are , "garbage skins," to be in the game. It doesnt always have to be very detailed high end skins. Give the people who make basic skins a chance.
OthyRaptor 38 25 Aug, 2017 @ 4:42pm
The problem is some people have inexplicably had way more than a 'chance' even though their skins are not that great compared to others.. And when it comes to opinions there's a difference between not liking something that's well made because it's not your style, and not liking something because it didn't have any effort put into it.. Sorry for being salty though, a lot of the skins in this update look great
