Homeworld 1 remastered Mothership movement mod existence?
Good evening.
I don't think this is an absurd question.
It is even less absurd coming from me, an old guy who played the original that would barely run on my pc in 1999. I was 18 back then.

Does a mod exist that simply allows the original Mothership in HW1 to move under "impulse" power in campaign mode, and nothing more? Or can one point me to the file that I could possibly edit, hopefully very simply?

I love that ship and to always have to have it just sit there in every single campaign level never moving... it hurts and it has always hurt.
For 18 years it has hurt.

Please, no more speeches about "game mechanics" and so forth. Just let me move my mothership across the jolly level map. Just this once.

I don't want a mod that turns it into a battleship with ion cannons and torpedo launchers... yet.
I'll bet there is one of that sorts out there already.
I merely want one that lets it move about slowly like the Pride of Hiigara.
It could even be slower than the Pride.

I'm not sure that this mod exists but it would be relatively easy to create...

Would you have any idea where to start? I think I found the right files in the .big files section but they're encrypted.

Your first step will be to use a big decrypter to extract the files. Archive.Exe ships with the game and will do the job. You will then need to modify the mission files to enable the mothership movement.

Check out the gearbox forums for more modding info:

Right on! Thanks buddy!

I've searched and searched.
I can't seem to find the part in the mission files that cripples the engines...

You know, I'm surprised I haven't seen this mod made long ago

I will take a look for you.

Look in
/data/scipts/scar/singleplayerflow.lua
.
You will find a line that says:

SobGroup_SetMaxSpeed(mothershipGroup, 0)

Change 0 to something non-zero and hopefully the Mothership will move!

Thank you spoon frog but the Data folder did not have a scripts folder in it. Where is the data folder you speak of?

You need to extract the big file before you will see it. I think it's in Homeworld2.big

Ohhhh thank you. I would have never looked there because it's homeworld 1i was trying to mod, but I guess the remaster must combine the two for simplicity? I don't know

Yes, Homeworld remastered is essentially Homeworld 2 remastered from a coding point of view. The Homeworld 1 side of things has been imported into the Homeworld 2 engine. That's why the scripts live in the Homeworld 2 big file.

Ok. I've found the file but I'm having trouble using the archive.exe extractor. I try to extract the homeworld2.big file and it says "archive failed to initialize"...

I've checked for typos and I can't seem to find any...

I'll have a look later, but I'm pretty sure I managed to extract it using archive.exe, but that was a while ago. I extracted everything from all the big files and put them elsewhere on my hard drive for reference, so I don't do big file extractions very often.

Aye thanks for all your help.
Can you show me exactly what you typed
Into the cmd when you get a chance?

I followed the instructions to the T as far as I can tell

Now I have tried a couple other BIG file extractors that are supposed to work with HWR.
Big Decrypter and Xunpack both tell me the file is already decrypted when it clearly is not, and Winbig tells me that it is not a BIG file at all.
Now I notice there are a few homeworld2.big files around here and there. One in each game version folder and one in the toolkit folder.
Fascinating
