Updating Your Skins
Two-part question, general and then more specific....

Lets say we want to refine or update our skin for any reason. So we don't lose support/votes and have to start all over again, can we update the files at anytime without having to recreate the item page in the workshop? Also, what is the window of time we have until things are finalized (assuming it is accepted into a safe)? Can we update a skin after it is part of the game?

More specifically, unfortunately due to the lack of resources/quality videos online, I have made many mistakes along the way. I just recently found out that when you edit base gradiants for a weapon "PART" it is only for that weapon mod. Whereas if you edit base gradiants for a weapon "TYPE", then it is all sights, all stocks, all barrels, etc. AJ Valentine's guide showed him changing weapon "PART" and now I fear I may have to go back and map all my base gradiant files to "TYPE". This is the main reason I may need to update.

So final question, if our skin is chosen, I am assuming there are some checks and balances on your end to make sure it looks decent and is playable in game? I am quite resourceful but I am not a graphic design expert. Cheers, I really hope this skinning sub-community grows so I have more people to compare notes with!!

When you upload your workshop item again it will update the page and override the original files so you're pretty much re-uploading the item and not losing any stats.

When an item is selected the only way you can update it is by contacting a AJValentine, Me or an Overkill developer and we will see if it needs to be updated.

Edit: About the last section, future skins are going to be inspected more to make sure they arent using copyrighted works or free artworks for legal reasons so do your best to make all your textures yourself and dont worry too much if you cant draw too well.
Also to be clear you are allowed to use existing files from payday2 if you need something like a wood pattern.
(If you have extracted your game with bundle modder you will look in units/payday2_cash/safes)

Just to be clear, by "re-uploading" you mean just going in-game and hitting "Publish" again? And this would re-upload (not create a duplicate entry) so long as I title it the exact same title as the previous upload?

when you first upload something it creates a file that says it's that workshop item, so for example your grom sniper item is ID:1162345505 and if you upload a skin that contains an info file with the same ID it will replace that workshop item and keep all stats and adds a new tab to the changenotes section on your item.

Very good. Really appreciate your responsiveness. Very nervous about the Grom skin which my first submission. I hope people like it.

No problem.
Your grom skin can certainly use some work, I suggest giving more variety to the plain white and darkening it a slight bit to make it more realistic and making it easier to see the icon on the magazine.

I've been up like a madman for the last 2 days trying to learn Adobe Photoshop CC on the fly. Do you know how to make more realistic looking whites? When I apply a gradiant, they just look chrome and when I apply them solid color and move the slider downward (away from pure white), they just look gray. It's really meant to be a white gun without looking super busy but I agree, I am struggling with the realism on the white shade.

(cont) I was thinking about applying a white marble texture across instead. But it can't clash with the red star, red coat of arms, or red on the rest of the gun.

If you want a marble texture heres a quickly thrown together marble if you wanna mess with it https://puu.sh/xT5m7/412416480c.rar

As for realistic base gradient whites I suggest lowering the top4 pixels color and alpha channels to around 80(out of 255) and making it near the max white so it doesnt kill off any lighter parts that may show up from the top4 pixels
