Photoshop CC Question: Color Gradiants
How do you get a color gradiant going down the length of a gun? Because so far, it seems like when I apply a color gradiant to the base gradiant file, it only affects the rotational/angular SHINE of the gun, not the actual painted surface itself....

"Genesis" from Community Safe IV might not be the best example (because I think they superimposed a sticker on top of the original color of the gun) but an effect like that but smoother....

you can do that with a pattern which has different colorlookups fading into each other, kinda like this: https://i.imgur.com/Vc186gc.png
and making the gradient fade for example from blue to green would need a pattern_gradient like this https://i.imgur.com/eRkgzAq.png
(It's a bit simplified tho, might need a bit of tweaking depending on the part)

youre talking about the 'top 4' on top of the gradient, RGBA affects the base gradient in a few ways.

The 'top 6' section is what Im talking about on the workshop guide.
http://www.overkillsoftware.com/workshopmanual/weapons/base-gradient/

DONT make it 6 pixels tall, thats too much and causes green to end up on your gradients. Use 4 pixels.

The top first 6 pixels controlled by..
Red: Cubemap Intensity,
Green: Gloss,
Blue: not used, Wrong, Weakens the muck and scuff effects from the CC textures and makes it look plastic,
Alpha: Specular control.

Edit: Right? Im confused now because you asked about the angle/rotation shine.

@Rex
I want a permanent, static, color gradiant across the *surface* of the gun, not just a lighting effect gradiant when it is rotated.

Here is a solid example of my desired effect:

Im very sure that heat effect is a sticker with a low alpha to not be shiny

Ah okay. In general, is it "better"/easier to do such gradiants as a sticker vs a pattern? Do you have more control over the aesthetics?

On a side note, I wish that skin was in the game...I would totally be rockin' it ;)

Well, from my time with skins Ive learned how to make 100% pattern style skins because you have far more control over things like gloss and gradient, but the downside to them is its hard to learn/get used to so I suggest using stickers then trying out stickers that cover large areas of parts then whole part stickers that fit perfectly over the weapon part then transition to pattern style skins.

Yeah I want to tweak my "Red Dawn" skin a little more, perhaps make the Russian seal shimmer a bit in the light. This would have to be done in Photoshop correct? Or is it in-game? I don't know much about cubes and specular settings (I barely know what those terms mean).

Youre gonna want to do that photoshop side, most likely gonna have to increase the alpha so you get more reflection, but also include a wave effect on the alpha layer so the game reflects certain parts more or less.

Making that seal from a pattern would be too inefficient imo so dont need to worry about that.
