A Continuation Mod
I'm surprised that nobody has made a mod for SOMA that shows what happens to 2015 Simon after he gets the brain scan.

Or a mod that shows what happens to 2104(?) Simon after launching the ARK

Please let me know if anyone makes these. I know they wouldn't be technically canon but I'd like to see what other people believe may have happened.

You shouldn't skip the credits, there is something after it:steamhappy:

Are you referring to the part where you wake up inside the ark? Because by

I meant the Simon that launched the ARK, not the Simon on it.

I was actually thinking about making a continuation, but it is a lot of work, requires motivation and dedication. I don't know HPL3 that well either. I also don't have proper tools to get a good story game (e.g. voice acting stuff y'know). But I have messed with the Level Editor already. Maybe I can get some type of real story going on if I keep experimenting. Could lead to the continuation

Awesome! Would definitely love to see it if you do it :D

Just giving updates, I've basically learned HPL3 by now. I tried to make the continuation where It was left off after the Ark launched and simon is yelling at Catherine and then he gets left alone

The only problem is, if I copy the last level and try to use it in a custom map scenario, it doesn't reflect any map or script changes. If I try to rename/save as to a new map file, I lose voice files and other stuff, which breaks the entire map itself. I'm not sure how I could do this :/

Okay. Well, I'll send you a friend request so I can stay posted :D Good luck!

2015 Simon .. he dies in a hospital bed

The suit simon fates ...

Well, both suits operated off battery packs. The batery packs had an indeterminate amount of energy, but it's easy to say they don't last forever.. and probably don't last more then a day or two.

Now, when the energy wears out, the fate is determined by how the game thinks the "brains" are running...

By today's technology standards.. the brains would be updating a hard drive and "save state" to the hard drive constantly as they updated with stimulus. So, if they shut down, they would just be dormant until they got powered again and booted back up.. then tehy'd just resume from where they left off.

But, if the brains ran like how the Brandon Wan simulation did.. where the image is a read-only file on a disk.. and once it boots up, any new stimulus it goes through is not saved.. so when it shuts down all of that new "life experience" is lost .. and if the suits are powered up again then the brain scan image is just loaded from scratch again.

This makes you wonder.. if the "brain is saving to a disk constantly" method is being used, then the first Simon suit you can drain the battery on doesn't really kill him. It just powers him down permanantly unless he gets more power in the future.

Likewise, .. even if his current brain image / experience wasn't saved, he could still get booted back up with power.. and it would be like you're starting the game from scratch again on that first-experience brain scan, but you'd wake up in a different pilot seat. You wouldn't recall anything of how you got there, b/c none of that experience was saved to disk.. so, like Brandon Wan, every time you booted you just were a fresh image from a read-only storage.

Likewise, with power suit Simon.. he could power down and then if he pwoers back up again with a saved image of experience, he just starts off from where he powered down.. remembering Cathering shorting out, shooting the ARK into space, etc.

If he doesn't have a save-state image.. then he'll just restart from where his image first started.. whcih was from when he transferred from his old suit to his new suit... and if you mentally edit those scenese together.. it would be like he sat down to transfer into teh power suit... and he expects to "wake up" in teh power suit as continuity occurs.. but this time he would wake up.. sitting in some gun chair in the dark and no clue what's going on.

This is, once again...like the start of the game. You sit down one moment, then you wake up some place way furhter away then you expected .. there is a lack of continuity in what you expected, which makes it very confusing...

But.. these dilemmas only occur if suit simons get more power once their battery packs wear out.

If they don't.. then they'll just be husks sitting there...

The WAU may eventually get to them with some creation of it's own.. or plug into them as it's tendrils extend further. They may wake up in some artificial environment of the WAU's making, or get merged with the WAU or something...or the WAU may power them up...

Or.. they may just sit there, unpowered, forever.. until they rot away. Their brain images, whether read-only or saved from the last moment of existence.. won't matter.. they will just corrupt over time as the elements slowly wear away and destroy their suits.

It could be thousands of years.. who knows.

And, if they some how do manage to get power after thousands of years.. they could have corrupted memories in their brain image.

It would be the equivilent of waking up with amnesia. You don't know certain parts of yourself. Or, if severe corruption, you could have the mind of a child.. not able to understand or speak but just driven by very basic primal needs.

I was scrolling through and definitely didn't expected to find this awesome comment right here. I was wondering what happened to the Simon who stayed on phi station for a long time and your comment basically explained everything to me. Thanks a lot!

wooah that's a lot of thinking ( this thread makes my brain hurt)
What would be interesting is a continuation of the second Simon where instead of killing the copy its left alive starting the mod as that character exploring whats left of base perhaps with an entirely different set of objectives and being able to now reach locations not featured in Soma. Ive touched on this in another thread.

You make some AMAZING points.
Some people claim the Soma story is done and to leave it, it really isn't there's an entire universe filled with lore to explore. So much unanswered questions and so much potential story arks. That's not to mention a prequel which could easily be a whole new campain in its self based around some of the companies involved in early research. Im waiting for Frictional to get off their Amnesia train which they seem so set on.
