Best free program for editing/creating text files for mods.
So what programs would the forum recommend for editing/creating text files for mods?

Also where can I find existing text files in the game if I want to copy/paste an existing text?

As far as creating new ones I believe most spreadsheet programs allow you to edit xml in a spreadsheet format, but keep the saved file as xml. I know Excel can, and I believe LibreOffice will work as well.

For editing existing text files, there really isn't a good way to do it. The data is in 8ld format, if I remember correctly which aren't easily editable or readable. If I can find it, I believe someone wrote a python script to allow reading them and posted it on the old forums, and I think I saved a copy somewhere.

Thanks.

OK I've been trying LibreOffice but it seems so clunky, never mind it seems to not be able to save as XML files.

Can anyone recommend a simple XML speadsheet editor (preferably free) that does not require an entire Office suite set to edit?

I've also been trying OpenOffice but I keep running into the same problem; it will not save XML files as XML. Is there a simple XML spreadsheet style editor that will save files as XML? Its driving me crazy.
