But how it's possible that out of nothing my files are overwritten with much older version?
incase ya forget in future allways create a backup copy
usually that is in your mod to upload folder (that is stored outside the game directory) and is the most recent one that got uploaded to workshop
i keep mine on my desktop (a Janitors stuff folder with 37 map folders in it)
also handy if i break vhe game by accident incase i have to reinstall VCD
i like multiplayer and vcd is like going back in time and killing the mozzie ya wish ya never killed
all vanilla content stays vanilla so i dont break multiplayer:)
if ya did self sub create a backup of all that maps files
unsub start the game so it gets deleted
replace with backup copy so next time ya test new version ingame it won't get deleted:)
also since i have made alot of maps i often reinstall the game monthly as well as go on a debugging marathon=helps tidy things up and squash the bugs while im at it:)
older maps need patches esp after official game updates

why cuz rocks are cursed they got fixed and broken at the same time
but devs only broke rocks on my end and nobody else's end
i fixed my rock problem as it was related to rocks as debris items:)
I was working on that file, so the uploaded one are separated from the one i load in the editor.
Fact is that i have touched nothing since i uploaded two days ago, and today 3/4 of the map assets where wiped out, as the new assets pack where almost empty, but everythings where in the map, defaulted like the bucket machine, or resetted like the archetype.
I found an assets backup, luckily, but i still don't understand what's happened.
As AJanitor says, it does sound an awful lot like your files were overwritten by what was on the workshop.
You say you have a separate folder where you store everything to be uploaded?
That is correct, but you also need to be aware that any files present in the game's folder structure will be replaced by the files on the workshop, if you are subscribed to them.
Make sure you are not subscribed to your own map unless you've been careful to keep your current working files backed up outside that structure.
When you want to work on the level, copy the files back into the game's structure, edit, and then backup outside again.
From what you've said, it sounds like you've been keeping backups correctly. My only guess is that there is a confusion about where and when to keep backups.
I don't know how else all your packages and map files could be corrupted otherwise, if it's not grabbing old versions from the workshop.
Perhaps the uploading of your newer version failed or something...
There should also be some editor autosaves for the levels somewhere, assuming you have that turned on.
I managed to find a correct package autosaves and restored the map, but it wasn't a sweet wake up!
I really don't know what happened, as i have separated folders and files, the editor load asets into the game folder instead of personal one, but i don't know how the personal one can be overwritten by the game folder ones, that where anyway the last uploaded, aka, the ones in my folder.
As i said, i finished the map, uploaded and then left the game for two days, where i have subscribed to some maps on the workshop and played them but i did not touch mine. After two days i wanted to try my map, but upon loading there where a "rebuild lights" message and most of the meshes where gone, replaced by the factory actor.
Somehow the assets pack where corrupted/saved in an old format, whatever out of nothing and by it's own
Lucklily i found, diggin trought all the autobak, the right one, but i'm still wandering what's happened.
By the way, i disabled autosaves, unsubbed, and instead manually copy mymap files into the game fodlers, and delete them when i have to make changes, it's more tricky but much safer.

BUT i have had a rather random issue with the level editor vs swarm agent as sometimes it hangs on exit appears to close but doesn't
have to manually exit swarm and if pc really slow
press ctrl+del task manager to manually close udk
happens 4 times out of 10 every time i build the lighting
if i dont use swarm n just build away it doesnt freak out the pc
i have steam cloud for vcd disabled permanently along with autosave=so it doesnt reinstall deleted and or outdated unwanted save files and content files
editor still creates backups when you save=normal
perhaps it malfunctioned and saved over your pesonal cop as on my pc it does recognise the files outside vcd if i point the vcd editor to its directory
so if i use rooks keep editor n mess with that
i open vcd editor and editor opens rooks keep mods folder (last file location opened in editor)
then i gotta browse back to the vcd editor
if i edit vcd next time i start editor its vcd
if i edit rooks keep next time vcd opens rooks keep=haha lol
so yeah Malfunction caused it=steam cloud sync screwed it up!!!!! yep steam cloud sync breaks the game and your saves!!!!
allways copy most recent files to desktop copy just incase it goes awry:)
disable steam cloud for vcd and disable autosave in game and in editor=it wont screw with your files ever again and it wont randomly bork the saves
all it takes is one internet dropout and its cloud sync goes haywire srewing up the office saves causing the office to crash
also on robot map
cloud n autosave disabled=no problems at all for over a year now:)
game runs fine on 32mb video memory
multiplayer works fine too=all vanilla files stay vanilla or it stop mp from working:)
my copy of vcd runs custom menu maps custom start video custom start logo/splash screen
i have about 8 unreleased maps 2 ill never share as one cant grow weed on steam in an alternate version of hydroponic hell as well as overgreen as an alternate overgrowth level
other maps are experimental unfinished projects
i have a copy of penumbra that im slowly changing
definately wanna do an alternative version of vulcan affair when i get a new pc
instead of inactive base it be an active base where the evil owner of the evil lair succeeded in their mission before falling into a pool of sharks but most likey he fell into the volcano that is an incinerator:)
it often gets jammed open on me if i dont exit swarm before i exit editor
it 4 out of 10 times it gets stuck open on editor exit after cooking the lights=udk running and pc super slow n cant see udk at all=appears to exit but doesn't even after i fully exit steam it still running an invisible instance of udk
1 out of 1000 times i start the editor it launches the game instead=wierd lol
so yeah thanks windows
some kind of bug or conflict or it probably udk=udk has a mind of its own sometimes
vcd and its editor also alot more stable in steam beta
ive no problems with the game for over a year other than when i have to fix some of my maps after official game updates=assets change n debugging is essential:)
a monthly backup n reinstall helps alot with debugging 37 maps one by one etc
steam cloud sync vs vcd autosave is borked it randomly corrupt saves and sync wrong data after internet dropout
with that disable the game runs like clockwork=no issues at all
sounds like a rare occurrence
perhaps stick a pid in the usb slot n backup to that
something i really should do as my pc is on its last legs:)
