Maps not built with production lighting
Hello :),

everytime if i build my map, then I get this error:

"Maps not built with production lighting"
https://i.imgur.com/iLxyVwL.jpg

I should ignore it or something is wrong?
If yes, how can I fix it?

you can ignore that if ya want to as in some of my maps i did preview lighting cuz it takes ages to compile production lighting in a big level
none of my subs have ever reported the difference in lighting quality as its pretty subtle
but yeah production lighting does look better!

if ya want to bake production lighting go to build and build production lighting
expect to wait anywhere between half n hour to 2 hours for it to do its thing (depends on size of map and amount of trees n plants etc (when its building don't click anything as it could crash the editor juring the build)
its in the build menu not the lightglobe one
3 options
preview
medium and production
might want to build geometry n ai paths 1st incase ya not done that already

sometimes its good to stick with preview lighting incase ya have to go in n move n add things in map updates after its on workshop esp if there an area that gets reported as a bug
your the boss n the main thing is there is no other errors or warnings in that map check pic
so your decision=ignore or build production lighting:albedothumbsup:
if ya do get errors in the map check esp if they are red ones then ya have to fix those
any performance warnings also need fixing
the rest like mesh has invalid uvs or messh in same location as another can be fake warnings esp if meshes overlap in say a corner of a room so can ignore those but dont put a mesh directly inside another=will save a headache finding em but mesh usually flicker if that happens

if swarm fails to build lighting check the swarm cache directory thats right at the very top of the swarm window settings
its set to D drive
if vcd installed on C drive etc change the D to a C n rebuild the lighting to fix that
i like my new pc vcd is on d drive:)

also in world properties mymap info make sure the reports tab is setup for ya pids n count the dead aliens if any and add the count to number of dead aliens
punchout handler to the handler of your choice usually its general
save setup=none
choose the one at the top vcsavegamesetup=if someone saves the game then they can load a save!!
those the most important ones but theres lots of stuff in there like
inventory to set which mop ya want and body n glove skins for the player or optional stuff like custom punchout notes n eotm award etc

as allways do production lighting last when everything is finished n ready to put on workshop=you will save loads of time waiting forever for the lighting to do its thing
payday 2 bank map aye=interesting:)

1 more thing
if map fails to upload to workshop cuz you played it in the game before uploading it=heres how to fix that=
go to steam library right click vcd and go to updates tab
disable steam cloud sync for vcd
start the game and set autosave to 0 disabled
exit game go to autosaves folder and delete all of the saves including the ones in the backups folder
if ya don't disable the vcd cloud it will reinstall deleted saves every single time ya start the game=map fail to upload
allways keep a working backup copy of ya map/s=easier to copy the game as current backup copy
upload map to workshop with rustugc.exe aka the rustmk2 tool:)
there is a bug in the upload tool=
how fix that=
content to upload box when click browse it wont choose a folder it keeps opening sub folders=wrong
click browse open the content to upload folder and copy the address to it
press cancel and paste the address in content to upload box to force it to select the right folder
be sure to read the getting mods back on workshop discussion in the workshop forums and the rustmk2 publising guide before you upload your map to workshop
files to upload are outside the game directory in a tree stucture with subfolders that match the paths of your maps files!!
do not use the old rust script system its obsolete n dont sub to your own map/s=more fun playing vcd n making maps instead of fixing the game:)
avoid using custom content from other workshop maps too ya dont want ya subs bit#ing about missing textures n meshes etc
definately play ya map ingame before uploading to workshop sometimes theres missing textures on some things like=the sky/mountains backdrops n a few other vanilla assets
if that happens copy the material n set it in rendering tab in editor to fix those if it happens cuz sometimes it looks fine in the editor but not ingame
eg
if want santas rampage sky you will have to use something like umodel to rip the sky texture and import it into ya map package n copy the setup of that sky material and assign it to the sky so its not blue n white squares ingame etc
for the most part those dont happen much if at all until ya make an outdoor map

oh yeah if ya use a map preview pic in the main menu use a 512x512 pic i use paint.net to make preview pic n add a hd screenshot as new layer that ways its not blurry and some of ya subs wont say the game crashes when they select ya map in the menu
although a 2048x2048 pic doesnt crash me it will crash others game=rare crash bug some subs will get if use a high res main menu map preview pic

thought ide add some extra info so ya dont go searching for headache tablets
dont delete map off workshop either it can be updated as many times as ya want and there is options in change notes to roll back an update if something horrible happens like corrupt unloadable map etc

Lot of Infos, thank you :).
It's a little bit difficult to read with my bad english :).

Now I am a bit afraid to continue the map, because we have to take care of many things :D
I played around with the light a bit. It's really messed up now :steamfacepalm:
I get now this error (30x or more):
"Static Mesh has invalid LightMap Coordinate Index"
But it does not show which meshes. I do not know what is wrong, maybe I played too much around with the values..
I've never created a map, I have no idea about light / light maps.

I should try to read some tutorials/guides.
cannonf0dder 33 21 Nov, 2019 @ 12:33pm
Those errors are ok ,nothing to worry about.
As long as you build the final edit with production lighting ( you can use preview lighting whilst you're building to save time ), and it looks ok in game, then you'll be ok.

Both errors, "Object has overlapping UVs" and "StaticMesh has invalid LightMapCoordinateIndex", can safely ignored.

yeah what cannonfodder said
don't be afraid to finish making a map is heaps of fun
if ya get stuck myself n fodder and sometimes the devs chime in to help

tutorial
have a look at BlackEagle's level creation guide in the guides section
it has lots to teach
slow n steady wins the race
take your time and explore the level editor

i thought you almost done making a map when i saw the screenshot

BlackEagle's guide is a nice read

don't worry about any yellow errors ignore em
its only red ones that are bad ones n if ya get one im sure we can help ya fix it

here is tutorial=
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=323918819
so nothing to be afraid of as making a vcd map is way easier than using Photoshop
level editor is lots of fun:)

if you did production lighting and it shows a huge list of yellow warnings
ignore it n exit those windows and go to tools
check map for errors then will see that all of or almost all of that list it gave the 1st time is gone/empty
yellow warnings can be safely ignored:)

if you have a level in the works press that green play button to play the map in the editor
it helps with testing to see if everything works ok:)
lots of fun=keep trying it won't be long before ya make something really cool!

there was no level creation guide when i made my 1st map=i wing it n see what happens:)
best of luck but please take ya time as to have fun making something is the most important thing to do:)

English my main language but my grammar is horrendous so sorry about bad spelling LoL

here are more tutorial videos by Enex
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/246900/discussions/4/357284767239018005/
ignore the last video as that ones obsolete/too old for new version of vcd
the other videos will help you get a feel for how to use the editor
hope that helps!
have fun while ya at it

whats your favourite vanilla map?
open it in the editor to see how it works and use BlackEagle's guide as a reference to see what does what and what to do with everything!
just don't save anything in the editor that is not your map file and you wont break anything:)
only save your map with the save as option n ya wont bork the game by accident then ya can have heaps of fun with the level editor!

might seem scary at 1st but its actually pretty easy once ya get used to it:)
dont be afraid to tinker with the level editor

keep a backup of the saves folder and your map files incase you break the game by accident
game can be reinstalled and backup files replaced if ya do stuff the game up
easily fixed if something goes wrong=
just post for help if the game dies on ya

i can't remember how many times i broke the game or crashed the editor so patience and spare time to make a map is key just save ya map often as ya go just incase the editor crashes cuz windows 10 lol
even if theres nothing wrong with the game the editor will crash when it feels like it=save your map often while making one

more ue3 tutorials
google devin sherry and horences on youtube
videos are for unreal tounament 3 but most of it works in vcd
esp since all the ue3 stuff/forums/tutorials got removed from the epic games websites
and only shows ue4 stuff now

lol and i still suck at using photoshop=ummm how do i use that lol:)
opens level editor n makes another vcd map instead:)

i have been using the vcd level editor since the day vcd got workshop support in vcd beta=
i still have alot to learn
BlackEagle's guide will help ya make something cool and you will learn new stuff that isnt in the guide every time you open the editor:)
so it been about 6 years for me in this games editor

Oh ok, thank you both :) Then I just ignore it..
And yes it looks ok ingame.. except the shadows. For example from a chair.
Sometimes it show up (on floor) and sometimes not or just a little bit:
https://i.imgur.com/0GpKD8A.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/6BJfZAH.jpg
Its confusing for me.

"i thought you almost done making a map when i saw the screenshot"

Hm only the walls/floor and a few meshes that the player can not move (such as cabinets, windows etc) and 2-3 moveable test objects.. later I create all movable objects.

i uploaded a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWJo95OSWik

I had many problems with the light. The walls looked really ugly with lights at the beginning, so I weld all walls together (with Milkshape), it looks better now.
But I really dont know if I do that right or not, its just fun for me :). Maybe i never upload it.
Thank you for the guides and videos :).

"keep a backup of the saves folder and your map files incase you break the game by accident

easily fixed if something goes wrong"
I have a lot of backups :D One wrong click and it takes hours to repair it :D

On youtube I watched some tutorials, but only with specialist topics, such as how to move an object or make a light blink.
I usually do it like that, I never start with beginner tutorials.. I just start until a problem shows up and then I look for a guide or video.

I hope I can ask here, if I have specific questions :).
A JANITOR 99 21 Nov, 2019 @ 3:08pm
so when everything on steam and the internet is boring and there's nothing on TV
open the VCD level editor:albedothumbsup:
A JANITOR 99 21 Nov, 2019 @ 3:14pm
oooooo wow
very nice level
put a ceiling on the jail cell and delete the sky if the player cant see the sky from the rest of the map build the lighting again last
add pids to the bodies once ya add those

the chair shadow=probably just the direction ya looking at it/standing in front of the light that cast the shadow
in 1st person player doesnt cast a shadow but in multiplayer if look at another player they cast a shadow
so its probably the player shadow thats turning off the chair shadow=ignore it
looks awesome
paint the place in blood n bodies=very nice level and i saw some nice custom made stuff in there
very cool
+1 to see this on workshop i would totally play it:steamhappy:
will be popular map if ya do put it on workshop?

if ya dont put it on workshop can i have a copy=it looks awesome

your not far away from the finish line???
lots of blood bodies bullet holes a few notes/pda's n bullet shells n yeah a very cool cleanup map???

console command to use to add mess=givetools
5 is blood n decals and 6 is objects
look at blackeagles guide
very nice map=it could be like uprinseing 2 lol

lighting one can never get perfect but as long as its lit go for it:)
try behindview console command and stand next to the chair
player has a shadow in 3rd person

vcd has its fair share of bugs n im sure nobody will really notice that chair shadow lol
they be too busy mopping up the mess or burning the chair in the incinerator xd

im guessing that there is a dominant light/aka the sun
if want to can delete that and use point lights next to all the light fittings to get a different lighting setup=more complex and it give different effects with colour n brightness on each lights radius and if want to can also add lense flares to the lights too
still it looks fine the way it is just get rid of the skydome if the player cant see it
under the map esp if ya used the night template
get rid of the cube and the white floor slab unless its the floor lol=optional

looks great i would play this one for sure:)
being a bank don't forget to add shadow warrior money then ya can rob the bank while ya clean out the place:)
the janitor is a klepto maniac and likes to steal things in the trunk:)

custom bodies are a pain to setup=can of worms=many hours swearing at the level editor!
go for the default vcd bodies if ya cant add custom bodies

stacking areas=crates n barrels is a good idea but not too many
probably 2 bin and bucket machines and maybe 2 incinerators unless ya put incinerator in the middle of the map somewhere then 1 should be fine

haha thats what i do or i throw instructions in the incinerator and WING it:)

One wrong click and it takes hours to repair it=yep i know that feeling all too well=welcome to vcd level creation when the editor vs windows 10 is the ultimate battle
all the bsp surfaces bug out real bad n flicker enough to trigger epilepsy on me in the editor but are fine ingame but im lucky i dont have epilepsy:)
the bsp disco is so bad if i open the devs jail map i cant see the walls just a super fast flickering mess with sharp triangles all over it=video driver issue n if i move the mouse it flickers even faster:(
it was nightmare to reskin the hoh house when ya cant see it

I hope I can ask here, if I have specific questions :).
indeed yes ask away im sure someone can help with those:vcdbucket:

whats Milkshape and is it easy to use and is it free?
answered my own question lol just hope its better than blender=great something new to learn how to use esp if it works for making things in unreal engine

for me i use blender=rarely
autodesk fbx converter to fix blender fbx files
paint.net as photoshop ya need a degree in science to get a transparent background texture
the editor n the rest is an accident although i do have a vast knowledge of how vcd works:)
one day ill do a goat sim map in goat sim=it be as good as the devs maps
will look into ue4 too theres some nice games out there in the modding community

i spend more time cleaning at work then time at home so time to build a new level is rare these days
i clean a meat factory/abattoir so its vcd in real life=how do the day staff get meat on the ceiling or stuck in places where you never think meat n blood could get stuck:)
i use a hose and chemicals so no mop and my uniform is the same as in this game but green instead of yellow with a red hair net and safety goggles n blue gloves n grey boots:)
at work i have to turn the kill line on and all the machines to clean em=just gotta be safe as the machines at work can eat the cleaner alive=i dont want to become 50 trays of mince or get boxed n packaged as drumsticks or nuggets etc lol

i would love to build work as a vcd map but company policy says im not allowed to=awww:(
im sure ill find a way but it wont be bird meat stuck in the machines it will be the workers:)

"put a ceiling on the jail cell and delete the sky if the player cant see the sky from the rest of the map build the lighting"
yes ceiling i do soon :). the sky.. hm i think the player can't see it, all windows are barricaded.
But I like the idea that there is a sky outside and it is at night :D. Does it make a difference (performence)? And it has a Skylight and a DominantDirectionalLight. I tried without these lights and the map looks ugly..

BUT you are right, without this both lights the shadows looks great now, no issues anymore.
Hm, but only with my spotlights it looks really bad, i must play around with that i guess.

"add pids to the bodies once ya add those"
For the names? Maybe i do the heisters from the game payday 2 (custom dead bodies).

"custom bodies are a pain to setup=can of worms=many hours swearing at the level editor!
go for the default vcd bodies if ya cant add custom bodies"
yes.. i will try it. the joints and such things is just a pain.

"vcd has its fair share of bugs n im sure nobody will really notice that chair shadow lol
they be too busy mopping up the mess or burning the chair in the incinerator xd"
:D thats right, but I must always know "why" a issue happend and if it looks better just with some clicks or new values.. why not.

"being a bank don't forget to add shadow warrior money then ya can rob the bank while ya clean out the place:)"
:) shadow warrior money?
I not know all features in the game, i must play it more :D.

"probably 2 bin and bucket machines and maybe 2 incinerators unless ya put incinerator in the middle of the map somewhere then 1 should be fine"
yes.. i want to change the mesh. Instead a incinerator i want to create a big dumpster, like in payday 2.

"whats Milkshape and is it easy to use and is it free?"
Milkshape is a very old 3d program (2013), but i still like it and use it a lot.
It's not free, and no updates.. so i dont think someone still want it, i dont know.

Same with 3ds Max, I still use 2012 version. Good plugins for it.
PhotoShop is a good program, but only for some good functions and plugins.
I still like to use paint shop pro 7 (2000/2001).

Goat sim map, that would be nice :).
I like to see maps from another games in Viscera Cleanup Detail.

"i use a hose and chemicals so no mop and my uniform is the same as in this game but green instead of yellow with a red hair net and safety goggles n blue gloves n grey boots:)"
Good to know :).
So you play the game in reallife too :). meat factory, hm ok :D as a vegan ts is not the nicest place for me :).

"i would love to build work as a vcd map but company policy says im not allowed to=awww:(
im sure ill find a way but it wont be bird meat stuck in the machines it will be the workers:)"
:) hm with fake company name maybe. the map you can create like the real one. nobody has a copyright on the architecture i think.

looks like your on the right track:)
if i do a goat map it be in the goat game!

for dumster incinerator is easy
put a disposal volume in it
in Kismet
disposal volume touched
set flags
0 unlimited trigger count
class is vcdebris
use instigator
uncheck force overlap
check allow dead pawns
uncheck player only

target is object variable on the touched trigger

playsound incinerator roar for the soundcue

link the out on the trigger to the play sound (only if ya put a fire emitter in the bin add the sound)

if want the janitor to die in the bin if they fall in
add a dynamic physics volume
damage per second 100
check box pain causing
damage type=pick one theres a few different damage types

on the dumpster mesh open properties
type accept in the search box
untick
accepts static decals and untick accepts dynamic decals
then it wont get any stains on it:)
