Not for me, it isn't. I'm sicking of getting far into the game and then having my neighbors roll up with an army that appears to be less upgraded than my own and yet mysteriously overpowers my troops!
I just found what you need, it's a mod, called IGEeditor or something like that, i can link you the mod if you like. It enables the command console and grants you ALL control over your game (research, units, terrain, lenght, AI...)
If you have the Rising Tide DLC, you must download the one working with the dlc (it must something like IGEeditor RT = In-game editor Rising Tide)
