An English Civil War Mod
I dont know how hard this could be to create, but I was fantasizing on a new and glorious mod! I am no modder, and dont intend to create this mod, I am just putting this idea out in the community.

An English Civil War mod! Think of it, complete with pike and shot, Oliver Cromwell, Religion of Catholicism and Protestantism, and Parliamentarians and Royalists. The Englsih Civiil War was fought between 1642 to 1651, a game Total War and Creative Assembly have yet to create. A game in the era of pike and shot, of course the English Civil War was fought on the British Isles, what no better game to base it off of than Thrones of Brittania. The map would be split into Parliamentarian English, Royalist English, Scotland(split between Scottish Royalists and Scottish Covenanters), Irish Catholic Confederation located in Ulster (Est. 1641).

In October 1641, the Native Irish in Ulster rose in rebellion in response to decades of widespread dispossession and dislocation, as well as systematic religious discrimination. Within months, the rising had spread throughout the kingdom, leading to the deaths of thousands of Protestant settlers, both English and Scottish, as well as similar numbers of Irish Catholics, killed in retaliatory actions by the colonial regime. The violence continued unabated for almost a year until the establishment of the Catholic confederate association in the late summer of 1642 helped restore order in large swathes of the country. The outbreak of civil war in England between king and parliament also prevented English military resources from reaching Ireland, forcing the colonial government to adopt a largely defensive strategy. For the next seven years, Ireland experienced a complex conflict involving confederate, royalist, parliamentary and Scottish forces. No one side could win an absolute victory but the execution of King Charles in January 1649 enabled the English parliament to focus exclusively on Ireland for the first time since 1642.

While in England, In early January 1642, a few days after his failure to capture five members of the House of Commons, fearing for the safety of his family and retinue, Charles left the London area for the north of the country. At the outset of the conflict, much of the country remained neutral, though the Royal Navy and most English cities favoured Parliament, while the King found considerable support in rural communities. Historians estimate that between them, both sides had only about 15,000 men. The Territories were split and the first English Civil War began.

Between 1639 and 1653 Scotland was involved in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, a series of wars starting with the Bishops Wars (between Scotland and England), the Irish Rebellion of 1641, the English Civil War (and closely related war in Scotland), the Irish Confederate Wars, and finally the subjugation of Ireland and Scotland by the English Roundhead New Model Army. In Scotland itself, from 1644–1645 a Scottish civil war was fought between Scottish Royalists—supporters of Charles I under James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose—and the Covenanters, who had controlled Scotland since 1639 and allied with the English Parliament. The Scottish Royalists, aided by Irish troops, had a rapid series of victories in 1644–45, but were eventually defeated by the Covenanters. The Covenanters then found themselves at odds with the English Parliament, so they crowned Charles II at Scone and thus stated their intention to place him on the thrones of England and Ireland as well. This led to the Third English Civil War, when Scotland was invaded and occupied by the Parliamentarian New Model Army under Oliver Cromwell.

This is only a suggested Idea, and I hope someone will consider and take up this glorious task, I think its a really interesting format, easpecially in Total War, in an era not yet covered by this awesome game company.

It would be possible to an extent. Not sure about custom formations for hte pikes, or things like gunpowder units. Depends how much data is left over from the previous games. Either way, to edit any of the faction locations and such we need the Assembly Kit, so we'll need to wait till then. I hope you find some people to work on the mod though, it would definitely be a lot of fun!

It's a little too ambitious for me, I'll be working on a mod set in 500AD-ish after the Romans left Britain but before a lot of the subsequent invasions.

Seems good to me. as for factions in the ECW there were a few foreign ones or rather regiments so perhaps they could be part of the roster. I was involved in a mod for MTW 1 and the viking Inavasion add on, it was called NTW (Napoleonic) and it was a huge hit for a community mod at least and they seemed to do the mechanics OK, probably will be a lot different of course but you never know.
A few more ideas, War of the Roses, The Anarchy but certainly the ECW is one mod I would try just to kill a few Roundheads, lol.
