FAQ

How do I use mods?
Go to the workshop tab in the Steam Community Hub. Click subscribe on the mods you want to try out. Check if they depend on any other mods and make sure to subscribe to those too. You can see what they depend on in the mod's workshop page. Boot up the launcher, select the mods section, check all the mods you want to try out and make sure any mods depended on by other mods are loaded first (by being above in the list). Click Accept, select "Modded Realm" in the radio button and then press "Play".

What's the difference between the Modded Realm and the Official Realm?
The Modded Realm does not grant xp, loot nor allow crafting, challenges or quests. The Modded Realm is mainly for trying out mods, playing alternate game modes or trying out stuff you can't do in the Official Realm. It also has a separate matchmaking pool, so you will not be able to play with players in the Official Realm. The Official Realm at the moment is the base game with all the bells and whistles. Currently it does not support any mods, but read under Sanctioned Mods in the mod guide[www.vermintide.com] or in the Dev blog above for the future plans regarding mods in the Official Realm.

Can we make custom maps?
In theory, yes. In practice, not yet. It is possible to bundle mods with level assets if you manage to create some, but doing this by hand (even though they are text files) without an editor is likely impossible. Releasing a level editor along with the other tools is something we hope to be able to do, but we don't have an ETA yet as there are some technical challenges we have to solve.

What are the rules regarding other IPs and such while modding
Please check the Modding Rules section at http://www.vermintide.com/news/mod-support-dev-blog/

Can I make custom models/cosmetics?
In theory, yes. In practice... it's complicated. Some prototypes have been made by modders, but without the tools and without looking at other source assets it may be a bit impractical. The source files (to use as reference) will be accessible soon™ as well as exporters from popular modelling tools like 3dsmax and Maya. The work flow will be further improved when the full tool set is released, see above.

How do I connect with other modders?
The community driven Vermintide Modders discord is a great place to start: https://discord.gg/XwST7fN

Any other questions?

At any time, would you consinder making any of the mods that do not directly affect gameplay into the official realm? Id love to see a kill counter for weapons

Yes! That's exactly what the Sanctioned Mods update is about. It's slated for the Summer of 2018.

There are more details of what it entails at the bottom of this page:

Would it be possible to auto-disable outdated mods?
Because that quest "turn off mods 1by1 till your game is working" after every update is kinda boring

Total War: Warhammer has a system where it can warn you about any mods that haven't been updated since the latest game patch's date, so that could definitely work.

However, most mods won't need to update after a patch and in fact won't, so you'll also get a lot of false positives.

During the last patch, devs removed the sanctioned status of outdated mods that caused crashes temporarily until they were updated, so you can just tick on the 'auto-disable non-sanctioned mods', but that still relies on devs discovering which mods are causing crashes.
Basically there's no perfect solution to this.

So that was a couple years ago, if I'm reading the dates right. Where did we land on the "not yet" part of that? Is it "yet" now/soon?

Waiting on the map modding.. if not for this one, for vermintide 1.

What technical challenges are there? Maybe some smart member of the community can help?

Well the OP has since left FS, I believe, so barring any other comments from other FS devs, I doubt we're going to ever see this, unfortunately.

Modded maps/levels brings a ton of new life to games like this. It's extremely unfortunate the dev team never got the greenlight to bring us a level editor.

Will mod sanctioning be revived? The modding scene has been left for dead and a lot of the talented modders have quit modding for this game due to the neglect Fatshark has displayed towards modding and modders.

It is incredibly sad to see so many QoL and otherwise useful mods be left in the "applied" pit forever. All long-time players I know dont want to play without mods and usually just wait until new patch issues are sorted before even booting up the game.

It is clear that you dont have the will or resources to manually sanction mods, so perhaps some sort of an automated solution should be implemented.
