1: 2 vs. 2:1 maps
This game is my go to for a nice relaxing evening at home, but I'd like to tweak the map ratios. I like to play linear maps because most railroads were linear. This allows a mainline trunk route and spurs like many prototypes had. The game accommodates this with "one to two/five (1:2 or 5) map width versus length ratios. That's great, but I think I see a minor tweak that would be useful.

The game's orientation is skinny across the width and long across the length. The map stretches far away off into the distance. It seems to me that I do most of the construction and playing with the map revolved so it appears very wide. his way I can see the trains from the side instead of the front or rear. You can see what's loaded and what's empty and watch the fascinating steam locomotive wheels go round, etc.

So, as I said you can rotate the map. Yes, that's good, but the views of the individual trains in their small train specific windows do not rotate with the map rotation. You see the world in one orientation and the specific train windows are 90 degrees out of phase, so to speak.
I think it would be a more elegant layout if is the stock map ratios were two to one (2:1) instead of one to two (1:2). The maps would be wide instead of long. This way a side view of the trains would also be a side view in the mini windows.

Does anyone have any idea how I could accomplish this little tweak?

You can rotate the mini window to sync with the main window.

Rotate mini map the same you would the main window.

It wont sync future windows at the same time, each new view would need to be rotated manually tho.

Not a permanent solution but a temp usage.

Hmmmmm! Thanks! I've got over 800 hours in this game. I don't know how I didn't discover that.
