How do I update my workshop map?

If I've made changes to the map after having published it, does republishing it automatically change the submission already made or does that just create a new submission? Not really sure how this works.

i have always wondered this, until today.

I edited my map today, saved it then pressed publish. It just overwrote the workshop to new edited map

This, just publish it from the editor after saving the changes, unless you messed with the ID in the level file itself it should just replace the old one. Only thing to note that it will overwrite any changes that you made to the title and discription on the workshop. I keep a simple text file with those infos and copy/paste it back after the update.
