I have the same problem but with 35 GB, I basically want to remove the workshop files so I can
move Rfactor 2 onto my SSD. Tried deleting the workshop file just ends up redownloading the whole lot again. I might try unsubscribing, then deleting the workshop files to see what happens
I wanted to install rF2 on my SSD, but having this system makes it a non-option. It would move the workshop content there too. If you delete it the content will be removed from game, and likely will be re-downloaded later; if you unsubscribe the content will get deleted too from the game. Have not tried manual install yet. My AC directory is 100 gig in size, but that has no duplicates. Unfortunately, it seems like not many people care about the extra size, likely because they do not care about some wasted space. For me this is just simply inefficient, which should be dealt with.
However, I just tried this and it appears to work if you can only find something in the workshop.
I'll use VLM's Midohio as an example. Subscribe to it if not already, let it download and install.
Then find the package file in the workshop folder (assuming you already know where to find)
Copy the package file to a temp folder somewhere and unsubscribe from the track on steam.
Let rfactor sync with the workshop and it will uninstall the track. It's best if the folder is gone from the locations folder.
Move the package file to the manual install package folder and install it that way.
The track will stay installed even though are now unsubbed.
Then you can delete or move the package file to another drive.
Of course you will miss workshop updates this way, so you'd have to pay attention yourself for updates.
Most but not all workshop stuff can be found elsewhere for just manually installing them though.
Thanks for sharing your solution. It seems the only problem remaining is updating then. Though this completely negates the workshop support. I update my AC mods based on Race Department alerts for example and have version numbers, links and dates added to mod files. Likely I will have to do something similar with rF2, but without the proper managing tools.
Otherwise there is a site that you can use to manually download workshop content. Just google steamworkshop download :)
In the RF2 Launcher go to the content tab, (sort it by type) and find the “Mod” files and remove the ones you no longer use. (***note some “Mod” files are directly linked to content and by removing them you will delete the entire Mod and its content files***). I uninstall first them, then delete the mod file (buttons in the bottom left hand corner)
Once this is done, you can unsubscribe to the content you don’t want and when you relaunch RF2 the files should be removed, if not you can then delete them through the content tab in the RF2 launcher.
