Ink Pack for AoE II: HD?
So this guy was working on this mod, like, ages ago. Years, even. And it featured re-skinning most of the game as stick figures and whatnot. I was wondering how feasible/easy it would be to re-texture or re-skin units and terrain would be in the newer version of the game, AoE II: HD? Also, as someone starting out in modding (sort of) what tools are available to mod this game, if I could learn how to do such?

Mod I was referencing: https://www.moddb.com/mods/inkpack/images/in-game-test-of-stickki#imagebox

Obviously he didn't get very far, but I'm curious if this still runs on the old engine or if the newer version of the game is running on some sort of updated engine that runs smoother/is easier to work with?

In terms of unit modding, the original game and the HD Edition are pretty much exactly the same. The game basically splits files into two types: "drs" and "slp". The "slp" files contain the bitmap images used for the units, and the "drs" file are essentially zip files that contain the "slp" files. Modding units simply comes down to creating new files and replacing the old files with them.

In general, AoKHeaven is the place to look for information about modding. There is an introduction to unit modding here: http://aok.heavengames.com/university/modding/an-introduction-to-creating-units-with-age-2/

There are a couple of tools that are used to interact with the game files.

Thank you! I'll have a look and check this out, see what kind of headway I can make.
